If you just pay the $20 a month and use the gym theres a good chance you might like it. My problem is with the billing practices. I signed up for Retro in order to "stay healthy" after being laid off from my job. After months of searching I was unable to find a gainful source of income, and my bills eventually fell behind. My credit card even got maxed out. So this is already a terrible situation for me. But at least I could keep my body in reasonable shape which makes me marketable for jobs. But then I was contacted by Retros billing people who said my card was declined when they tried to bill me for the month. So I went in to try to pay with my debit card. They charged me the $20, plus a $20 late fee, plus a $20 service charge for the 1 month. Mind you at this point Im not even going to the gym because I dont want to spend money on gas. I told the guy I wanted to pay for my full membership obligation and just close out my account. HE WOULD NOT LET ME!! Apparently there is a 2 week window that I can close out? Im in a very unhealthy situation and Retro is not being friendly. Also, now that my 1 year contract is fulfilled and Im on a month-to-month basis i went in to close out my account. Manager told me I had to put it in writing and send it via Certified Mail. Even after they receive it, it wont take effect for another 60 days. Perhaps that was actually in the small print when I joined over a year ago, but I cant stand it when companies do things like that! I firmly believe in fulfilling my obligations when I make a commitment, but at this point I seriously wish I was never involved with this company.

My home gym is in Aston but I was at the Concord Mall and decided to give this location a shot. The equipment was somewhat different from that in Aston but still allowed me to complete my usual workout. However, I made the mistake of deciding to try a smoothie. All I wanted was a 16oz bare bones smoothie with strawberry flavor, chocolate protein, and peanut butter add in. I expected with my $1 off coupon it would cost me about $3. Instead, I receive this loaded, pre-designed smoothie with all this stuff that I didnt need and definitely didnt want, and it cost me bigtime at the cash register. I explained that all I wanted was the simple smoothie I described above, and Im told that everyone gets charged for whatevers the most similar pre-designed smoothie regardless of whether they need all the ingredients. I suppose the workout is ok here, but do NOT order a smoothie unless you enjoy getting ripped off.

Its better than the YMCA where I used to workout but some areas are lacking severely. Let me preface this by saying that this is lifters gym and in that respect I like it. However the staff here, at least for the most part are not friendly at all an they constantly play favorites with certain gym-goers compared to others. Because of this some people (including myself) are subject to different treatment. Which is not fair, let alone professional. Also they dont allow chalk at all, which sucks for people who deadlift heavy. I would like to give it one star purely for the unfriendly staff and customer service, but at the end of the day, I still have good workouts here and it beat fluffy gyms like the YMCA.

This place is better suited to bodybuilders than the fitness crowd. They have a lot of equipment but at prime time it can be difficult to get access to you favorite stuff (not unlike most gyms). It is clean and they keep the equipment in good shape. The hours are good and they have a friendly staff. This is not a "meat market" gym and the members are pretty normal. If you are intimidated by people serious about working out and big guys in tank tops then you might be happier at Planet Fitness. They will try to sell you on classes and personal training but you can just say no and workout for $20 a month, which is a pretty good deal.

This place is unbelievably loud!!!!! It is not "healthy" to be exposed to that type of loudness over a prolonged period of time. They maintain the volume of the music to some "corporate" standard and will not turn it down for any length of time. I have asked repeatedly why it has to be so loud a person cant think, and cant hear any of your own music if you bring a player. The desk staff is very unhelpful around this issue. How can a health club have a "corporate edict" to maintain a noise volume so loud?????

Good gym for "working out". Not a pansy place that only has Dumbells that go up to 65 etc. Def. Suited mostly (not all) for people 18-40. Good cardio options also & tanning / health bar. Someone mentioned the musics to loud (not blaring) then go find another gym. Most people like music while working out.

It is a great gym with an awesome staff. The only problem I had was that there is NEVER any hot water in the showers, unlike the Bear and Kirkwood locations do.
