Its been almost a year since I visit my local DC DOES and its safe that I will never visit that place ever again. Ill try my best to give a review of my experience of DC DOES by year(s). Fall 2014: Visit the place frequently because youre forced to go through classes (how to build a resume, do interviews, similar to a workshop) just for them to even fully help you. Stopped going because I attended volunteer organizations for references since I didnt have any. Winter 2015: Went back to hear that the last person that helped me stopped working there around the time I stopped going back. So they assigned to another employee who worked there. The guy they sent me to was pretty harsh. He slammed my resume and sent me to someone else and that person wasnt helpful AT ALL. I stopped going back after that nightmare. Spring 2015: After nearly 4 months of no luck, I went back and had someone different to help me out. The guy gave me his email and phone # and I tried contacting him for weeks. Didnt get a reply. Not a phone message. Not an email. He left me in the dark. So I went back to that place and guess what? I was forced to go through the classes again (after waiting nearly an hour for someone to finally talk to me and I been there since 9 am). All I did was attend the resume building class and never went back. That was the final straw. Whats amazing is that I got my first ever part time job thanks to a job fair my mom showed me and after doing various requirements, I got the job during the holiday season. And it was no thanks to DC DOES.

I have had a lot of dealing with Employment Services through there Empowerment Programs and other aspects of the agency. The questions that I have are for the government and there part in this facade that is supposed to be here to help the residents of this city. My question is for the government what happened to the funding for residents in DC that need help with employment and recruiting for jobs? We need this type of advocating desperately here because there are a host of transitional age youth and people that are coming home from incarceration that need some kind of hope whether its in the form of programs ,or employment opportunities.

The people at the DOES office are nice and do seem interested in helping you as much as they can. The problem is trying to get ahold of someone. Dont bother with emails, even directly to someone at the office as they seem to go into a black hole. Phone is really the only way to get things done, but then be prepared to go through 5 minutes of phone tree recordings before you are finally in the hold queue. Of course, then its about another 5-10 minutes before someone picks up.

That Place is a comedy club And a poor one at that They couldnt perform the cheapest trick of pulling a rabbit out of a hat I guess they have some silly notion that your life is in their hands because you came in there it is a place that has done nothing for me but give me indigestion & belief in the old saying if you want something done right ....DO IT YOUR SELF

I had a problem with my unemployment. I called DOES and had a really nice experience. The representative was pleasant, patient, and took care of the matter swiftly. I must say, after dealing with DC government over the years, it was a very pleasant surprise. Thing are getting better. I hope this new attitude can continue with all DC employees.. Thumbs up!

First time having to file unemployment and Ive been on the phone for 2.5 hours this morning trying to do so. I wasnt able to file directly online and was referred to call. This is ridiculous and complete madness. DC you cant tell me this the best you can do. This is horrible!!!

If you call them, they have been very helpful, but if you arrive at 4. The times listed are 830-430, but that means they close their doors at 4 and leave at 430. Its sad that businesses in NE area operate like this.
