Been a member since early 2015 and have enjoyed everyday I come. Started at 5 days a week currently here 12 times weekly training. But thats beside the point. Over the years I have been briefed by staff on how they like the equipment handled for longevity of the gear. Its an older gym yes things could use an up date but, equipment is hella expensive. They keep a good stock of accessories, massage therapist on site and a supplementation store. Most of the group classes ended this year. But improvements to the facility have been coming slowly. There was a price hick to $19.99 a month but still better than anywhere else in town. A lot of complaints about the cancelation fee or hidden fees. They have been there for over 2 years in the membership agreement. They are not hidden. Only problem I have with this facility is the trainers they have hired. Having been here two years I have seen some come and go. I have seen profession bodybuilders, crossfitters, and the in between. I have trained beside them when they are training their clients and themselves. I have trained at all hours of each day and always been treat with respect and kindness. Questioned in my training methods and styles a few times by other members. But always with respect to better myself and protect myself and the equipment for user error. But, they hired these new trainers who train themselves in the mid-morning. They are completely disrespectful to any member they gets in their way. One cursed me out over having weights, I was using during a pyramid super set with less than 30 second rest between sets, in their way. Instead of asking me to in the future not set weights were I did. They cursed me out and treated me like they were better than me because they can lift 4 times the weight I was. Mind you I have worked out next to hundreds of heavy lifters using the same way of training and not one disrespected me. I expect more from a paid professional to the people that pay for their place of employment. As for me I always pull the dumbbells or equipment I am going to use so I am out of peoples way and I can hit it hard and fast. I always clean up after myself and sometimes members who dont. This level of unprofessionalism and disrespect from an employee is almost enough for me to find somewhere else for my irontherapy. The way I was treated was sad. Made me feel like a second rate citizen in a place and by a person that is supposed to be focused on helping people improve themselves physically. Great fitness center otherwise. Defiantly not judged by my other members for your fitness level.

After coming from a private "fitness club" in a small town to a larger city. It was nice to see a large gym having 1/3 the price of a hole in the wall fitness club. I would say there are a few positives and a few negatives to any business and Gulf Coast is no different. A lot of my issues dont stem from the staff but some of the customers. Being a person that likes to come in and take care of business. Having a staff that is not overly "talkative" is great. As I dont come in to have a "social club" experience. So to layout what I see as a positive of this place: - low monthly price $10-$20 - space the floor space is great, lot of rooms for specific activities. - daily class to shape ones training around. (Zumba, yoga, spin, etc.) - knowledgable trainers. (I see most of the regular trainers out on the floor keeping their fitness up between clients.) - clean facility maintained by staff. - equipment selection. ( good balance of free weights, Iso machines, cables, and cardio equipment) - child care provided for single parents or couples Negatives - older members treat the gym like a "social club" and effectively steal or "cut in" during others training. - no lounge area that these people can use. - members fail to put weights and plates back. Sometimes these plates remain in place for days. - some pieces of equipment are in need of an update. ( leg press needs replaced with a double bar or 4 bars to hold more plates, cables , barbells need some lube, Dumbbells need tightening, t-bar, and downstairs machines could be updated.) - machines could use labels for there weight without plates on them. Not Gym related issues - negative the location can be difficult to get to from Cleveland during season - outside steps can be hazardous after a heavy rain. - was surprised by maintance fee once a year. Tripled the bill to $60 after being a member for 3 months. - "no contract" seems like a contract with a small "early termination fee" of $20 per account holder. Overall, awesome place to train and almost always a great day when I get a solid workout in. Beside people rudely getting in the way or stealing equipment in the middle of super or Giant set its great.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. Customer service is poor and lacking and it would seem the membership system is a failing quite a few people. I followed the protocol that was told to me on the day I cancelled my membership. Filled out the form and was told my last month would be $19. Cool. Now Im being harassed for $96 (which no one seems to be able to explain) for Pure Fitness in Fort Myers. So like any logical person, I call to try and figure out what was going on. Not only do they not have record of my cancellation, which is convenient, the employee I spoke with to try and get and understanding of what was going on was super rude and hostile. He talked over me the entire time, wouldnt listen when I explained that I had a employee signed copy of a cancellation form. When I asked for an email I could send a copy of the form to, he responded with "IF someone gets back to you..." If? Does Joe not check his email? As the owner does he not care to try and figure whats going on at his gym? This employee also went so far as to lie about his name being Mark. (I called back to verify Joes/Pure Fitness email address to send my copy of the cancellation form to and was told no one by the name of Mark worked there.) You guys have got to be better people. Customer service is lacking. I now have to try and find a cancellation form from 6 months ago and deal with the head ache that is Gulf Coast Fitness. Do yourself a favor. Just dont. Im sure there are other gyms in the area that are far more responsive and organized. You get what you pay for.

Over the past 15 years, Ive worked out in gyms of all types: bare-bones garage-based gyms, "globogyms" in major US cities, government-run open air gyms abroad, university and corporate fitness centers, and even a gym in an airport lounge. I felt the need to set the record straight after seeing quite a few rather ridiculous negative reviews of this facility (e.g. criticizing a facility for attempting to collect dues that you havent paid is, at best, hilarious) . The staff is courteous and stays out of my way (just the way I like it). Theres a ton of free weights and machines (most gyms of this size tend to be a little light on the free weights). On weekday evenings there tends to be some eye candy in the zoomba studio or on the cardio machines, making listening to the grunts of a select few (not too many) mass monsters a lot more tolerable. Best of all, Im in and out usually within 15 minutes. Equivalent facilities in NYC, DC, MIA, etc. charge at least $80-100 per month, so the fact that I get to use this facilitys services for under $20 a month ($10 monthly membership fee + quarterly maintenance fee) makes this deal even sweeter. Having worked out here for almost a year now, I can confidently say that the service provided by this facility is solid, even outstanding given the low price point.
