Step n Dance Salsasabor Tropical Dance Studio Step n Dance Salsabor Tropical Dance Studio is the brain child of one Dance Master Tony Duarte. Without a doubt Tony is one of the most engaging natural Latin dancers I have ever seen. He only needs to put one foot on the floor and his entire frame and leg work expresses a multitude of musicality in the fractional movement he makes. Tony is willing to share this art, and its secrets in a clear and accessible way. There is a methodology for learning the craft and Tony, along with his very knowledgeable and able assistants, deliver his tuition with clarity, precision and best of all with humour and encouragement. Indeed, the ethos of all of the students attending, of which there are many, is constructive and helpful. You quickly feel that you are amongst friends, all of whom are striving for the same goal – to learn, and help each other learn. This ambience inspired by Tony and his assistants is given with magnanimity and discipline and you just feel that you are in a capable learning environment. With a special emphasis on the male lead, Tony ensures that us guys are learning to control our dance partners with etiquette and respect within the domains of the ladies stepwork. An important focal point for any dancer learning to lead. As Tony has pointed out so many times, in the nicest possible way, that the leader can’t just do “his thing” and hope the woman follows. The leader has got to be aware of what he is asking the follower to do, and make sure that she has the capacity, space and timing in which to do it. The simple follow on point from all of this is that–“ if you make the lady look good, she is going to want to dance with you again.” For most of the guys this is enough to make you wake up and focus. And the ladies styling is equally addressed with great humour as Tony captures the essence of the “girlinesss” he wants his female students to express to embellish the femininity of their dance step. Broken down and delivered with finesse, Tony regularly dances the ladies part with one of the male students and I think the guys and girls are awestruck by his extraordinary capacity for transformation. But its all there crystal clear and consistently accessible. Additionally, Tony has a youngsters group which he runs regularly. Lucky they are too, as so many of us started this dancing later in life. These kids will have a huge advantage when they get older – I was there towards the end of one of the classes just before the changeover to the adults. These youngsters were having such a great time they didn’t want to go. Finally, I would like to say that when you begin with Step n Dance you start to realise the enormous journey Tony is taking you on as he guides you through all of the popular styles related to Salsa, including: Merengue, Cha Cha, Bachata and Mambo. And as he drives you through all of this with endless drill you know you are being prepared to enter the fabulous Salsa party events which are happening everywhere. Wherever you go you need all of these styles. Without a doubt Step n Dance gets you ready for this.

In December 2015 I looked for a good dancing class and I found it on the internet. I tried it Friday night and really enjoyed it so I joined the group. The teachers are professional and patient. They take time to make sure we understand all the different steps. If we have difficulties, they break every movement down to insure we understand properly. They make us feel comfortable to ask questions or to repeat movement. These teachers are the most patient instructors I have ever met! The dancers group is friendly, and you feel part of the group very easily. It is relaxing; you have lots of fun and establish good relationships. I would recommend it 100% to anyone. Thank you for all your patience Tony Kevin Orlando!

I have always loved dancing at parties, clubs and or concerts. Whether its moving to the rhythm of the reggae dance hall music, or main stream pop right down to country and most of all salsa, merengue and bachata. The thing about it is I dance free style to them all with no formal training. While that may get me by with the untrained ladies, I have found myself in situations where I have taken a lady out on the dance floor and found myself apologizing to them after a couple of dance moves I thought to be salsa, but the look on their face told me I had a lot of nerve even attempting to step foot on the dance floor. I knew I had to get formal training specifically for latin dancing and started taking classes in South Miami, North Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. But unfortunately, for whatever reason I did not feel the connection or the embrace of any dance studios I started off with. I felt like I was just a member there to learn the steps as quickly as possible but with no direction or motivation. I stopped taking classes for about a year after that until I saw a meetup invitation for Step N Dance Salsabor Tropical Dance Studio salsa lessons. I decided to take a 4 class special at Tony Duartes dance studio. I was pleasantly surprised by Tonys instructional techniques, specifically in how he divided the class out by the students experience level (Beginngers, Intermediate, Advanced). I obviously started with the beginners group and after the 3rd class decided I wanted to become a full time member. There were a few reasons why I made this choice before my 4 class special was completed. 1. The instructors teaching the class were professional, caring and extremely helpful in teaching even the beginners how to step, time and coordinate their movements. 2. Even in the beginners class I watched the intermediates and saw how great they were and I knew that I wanted to be in that group to learn the incredible styles and footwork. 3. Even the students (Intermediate and Advanced) were helpful in providing tips and advice on what felt right/wrong in my movements. 4. Tony himself will step away from an advanced training session and provide any of his students advice on how to correct any mistakes they may be making in order to improve their learning experience. With all these resources there at my disposal the experience of learning salsa was so much more enjoyable. Especially with the fact that I quickly realized I had to come into Step N Dance and leave my bad habits at the door in order to absorb the incredible wealth of knowledge Tony was so willing to share with his students. If I had to describe Tony Duarte in a sentence it would be: Where all others fell short Tony Duarte was able to show me how to dance Salsa instead of dancing to Salsa....
