What can I say? I drank the "CrossFit Kool-Aid" and I have SBG CrossFit to thank for that. All I know is I wanted and needed a change but dieting (all my life) didnt do much and made me feel bad when I couldnt stick to it. I needed to incorporate exercise BUT the big box gyms had big classes without a lot of personal attention. The general areas left you on your own--no one helps you work out, unless you pay for an $$ personal trainer! I also wanted something more challenging than a Curves interval training place (plus...all that purple--yikes! I joke!). I took a weightlifting class in high school and I remember feeling powerful. After moving to the Buford area, I found out about SBG CrossFit, and my interest was instantly piqued because I not only wanted to lose a good amount of weight, but I also wanted to feel strong again. I checked out their website and read about their customized beginner program. When people ask me how hard CrossFit it, I tell them: "I went from the couch to the gym" and its the best thing Ive ever done for myself. If youre checking out CrossFit (and no, they dont break your backs with weights!), dont hesitate to call or visit SBG. The coaches are experienced, knowledgeable, extremely motivating and, most importantly, they want to see me succeed! I see this in their attitudes and how they work with me every day. The workouts change daily and are optimized for best results. Its never the same thing twice. When you put all of this together, its not surprising that CrossFit is one of the most fun things I do! My advice: Check. Out. SBG CrossFit. No matter what youve heard about CrossFit, check it out for yourself. Youll be so happy you did it!!

I have been a member at STRAIGHT BLAST gym here for about 9 months now and I look forward to coming here for all the programs here available in my memebership. When I first search this gym up on Google, I was searching for Crossfit. Once I found out all the different programs they offer, I was impressed and curious how this gym worked. Getting my foot through the door was the hard part for me because I joined alone. I thought a friend of mine was going to join and train with me. However, once I met the TRIBE, I was greeted by all these great folks and the coaches, with all their knowledge, kept things fun and safe for all the programs. Whichever program you decide to do, you will be taken in by coaches with great attitude and experience and members who were in your exact shoes. Members here also make training great because they are here for the same reason you are, to learn. I remember my first time on the mats for their martial arts programs and it was nerve racking. The coaches will explain every step you take and makes sure you got it before you move forward. Nowadays, I am there so much, I am almost obsessed. One thing so great about this place is that I have noticed I am pushing every limit I have set for myself in exercise and the coaches here are the perfect people to help you smash through them. There are so many ways to come give this place a try and all need to do is call or cone visit and talk to anyone who works there.

I dont usually take time to write reviews as I have much more important things to do with my time but I visited this establishment with my son yesterday around 2 pm with intentions of signing my family of five up. Walked in and said "Hello" to the two gentleman at the front desk. They said "Hello" and then proceeded to ignore me for approximately five minutes while they conversed about their schedules. No one else was in the gym except us and my 8 yr old who then took off across their mats with "God forbid" his shoes on. Mr. Personality then speaks up to chastise my child about running across the gym floor with his shoes on... still not speaking to me. I then decide we are leaving and will never grace this place my presence so I say to my son "Lets go bud". At this point, Mr. Personality says " I will be with you in a second". I say "nah, thats okay". Plenty of gyms to go to and your one in Athens is highly rated by a buddy of mine but you will never see me in your gym. I am not a fan of being ignored and my child being chastised by strangers. Not sure what kind of "Tribe" you guys say you are part of. Horrible service! If I could give a negative star, I would. Felt an update was in order: It has been a week since my post and no contact from the gym so "Use this gym at your own risk". If the past is any indicator, you will be ignored and treated badly. If that is your thing, then this is the place for you.

Update: Ive now been at SBG for over a year and half now and still love working out there. The CrossFit coaches, especially Sean and Chris can take a complex movement and break it down in to easy to understand terms. They are not only great coaches, but great teachers. The programming is designed for anyone looking to stay in shape without trying to kill you like some other CrossFit boxes. Chris is aways changing things up which makes it a lot of FUN. There is a great vibe here and Ive met some of the most amazing friends. Highly recommend. Original post: Ive been doing Crossfit for 2 1/2 years and recently started at SBG. The workouts are great, varied, challenging, and fun, but not like some of the crazy programming you see at other gyms. The coaches are knowledgeable and positive. I have learned even new things from them since switching. Coach Sean taught me to string double unders in one class which no other coach has been able to do. The overall atmosphere is welcoming and I love going to class. So happy I made the decision to join SBG.

Where in this amazingly beautiful creation of a gym do I start in explaining the awesomeness this place possess???? Since day one, my life has changed drastically in a super positive way. Life is easier, the world outside of SBG is no worries, and the friendships I have gained through training can never be replaced. From the fantastic owners, to coaches and staff, this is what a gym membership is all about. I have been in and out of other gyms all my life, but SBG is where you go to increase the overall awesomeness to your daily life, your mental thought process and overall well-being. I am telling you from a multiple program athlete, whether you join for the CrossFit, Muay Tai/Kickboxing, or BJJ, you will be addicted, and you will love it. Sure, you are probably going to drive past the building 8-10 times before you walk in, probably due to fear of the unknown or even the feeling of vulnerability, but YOOOOOOOO, this is SBG - You will be ok!!!! Now go HIGH FIVE someone, and say YESSSS, I am going to sign up right meow!!!!!!

With most gyms I have tried, I have walked in & felt intimidated or judged for not being as in shape as other people, not at Gentrys the staff & instructors are very friendly & welcoming which made me feel right at home from day 1. The classes are fun & challenging, Ive been coming to Gentrys for 2.5 weeks, in that time I have lost 14 lbs which is a big deal to me, especially considering my back story. In 2001 I was in a bad auto accident involving an 18 wheeler, which left me with a broken back, crushed ankles & knees, I hadnt been very active, most gyms I tried the exercises caused me more pain than it was helping. I tried 1 class at Gentrys & the instructor made changes to my routine to not cause more pain, since my 1st visit I have been almost every day & feel myself getting stronger with less pain & more mobility in my everyday life. A huge thank you to the instructors & staff @ Gentrys, youre a life changer..
