Just wanted to let you know that I was very turned off my LA Fitness and I have been part of many types of gyms. From Equinox to Planet fitness and everything in between. I am not one to usually complain (I usually just dont return). However, my experience was so unpleasant that I had to let someone know. I went online to get a free trial for three days and signed up to the nearest gym. Once I got there I was greeted (if you want to call it that) by the rudest little girl behind the counter, who looked like she couldnt even be bothered with doing her hair or putting on something other than pajamas. Once I got her attention she made the loudest scoff and responded with a "YES>>>>" So I said "hello I have a trial pass for three days I got off of your website?" she then responded with "OK....." Then there was a long pause. so I said "ok so do I just go in?" She then rudely responded with "no." So because they dont have internet, I had to fill it out on her IPHONE. By this time (30 min later) I was already irritated. I finally got to go work out and there were a lot of people on there cell phones in the locker room, which made me feel uncomfortable. Then, when came time to take a shower, they were disgusting. Like, never cleaned. I was so disappointed. So when I received an email with a SPECIAL DISCOUNT FOR 49.95 I had to laugh. I would NEVER pay that for that gym. EVER. They need to do some damage control over there. You will probably read this and say they cant make everyone happy. But, keep this in mind, I am sure Im not the only one who likes to be treated nicely or bathe in a clean shower for 50 dollars a month. Thanks but no thanks!

Ok. It isnt the newest gym around, in fact it was the first one built on the southside of Atlanta. That said, it certainly isnt a 1-star gym (or a 5-star either). Ive been a member for about 3-4 years. The 2-week free membership review is one of those classic people that abuses freebies and then complains about it. The good: Always a basketball game going on in the evenings. Plenty of cardio machines. Friendly staff, but more importantly the patrons are friendly. There is a lot of camaraderie among people exercising. I dont do them, my wife does, but the exercise classes are usually full and they are working hard. The exercise classes at the McDonough location are lame and lack the zip you need from the instructor to make you work. The not-so-good: Sometimes basketball is TOO full, especially early in the week. Naked people in the locker room, I agree with the other reviewer. Pull a damn towel on! Sauna is often not working. Locker rooms need updating. Many lockers are broken and the carpeted benches are likely home to some bacteria that could tell some very interesting stories. Overall its an average gym, but with LA Fitness you can go to any gym in Georgia with your membership. I just like this one since it is convenient on my drive home and I can avoid the gridlock on I-75 as I head south after work.

Current Review of Southlake La Fitness June 2014-- the carpet on the steps leading upstairs to the treadmills have tape on them to repair holes (ever heard of a tripping hazard), the carpet in general has multiple stains on them especially where they removed the "old" training desk (can you replace the carpet at any point?), the locker rooms and bathrooms are gross and unsanitary (stains on the carpeted seating areas -- can that be any grosser), multiple machines in the weight area do not work correctly (in general the equipment is just old), the general workout mat by the classroom is worn out, in the aerobics room -- the instructor must hold the microphone to get it to work, the stereo system and speakers continually fade in and out and on top of all of this, the air is not working (they have a fan instead -- yes, during summer in Georgia). The only reason that I did not give this La Fitness 1 star is due to the great class instructors but they can only work with what La Fitness is providing. This location is old and worn out and they have no intention of updating it any time soon. DO NOT waste your money joining this gym until the renovations of some type have finished.

I had a horrible customer service experience with Pam at the front desk. I was invited by a friend to train with her trainer and was told to come in for a visitors pass to see if I wanted to get a membership. When we arrived to the gym, my friend told Pam that I was here to train with her. Pam immediately got rude and said "Well where is her membership?". My friend responded that I didlnt have one yet and that I was told I could visit by her trainer. Her response was "Well he is just a trainer and he cant make those decisions!". Overall, the experience was extremely unwelcoming and made me decide to not to get a membership at this location. Even if my friends trainer went about the process incorrectly, her frustration should not have been taken out on me. I was able to get a visitors pass (which is what I came for), however, I was not treated professionally and I was actually embarrassed by the entire ordeal.

I hate that I am doing this, but anyone that gives this gym 5 stars must not have visited other LA fitness locations. This particular location is 6 miles from my house, but I will drive up to 25 miles to other locations, using this one as a last resort. I cant speak on the staff, but I can say the facility is not well kept. The spin bikes are rusty, and sound system in the spin room is small/ has a bad connection. The locker room always has water and hair everywhere from the pool and is kept at a very uncomfortable temperature ( cold!!!). You can literally feel yourself getting sick from the change of temperature between the gym/ sauna/ locker room. It baffles me that LA fitness pays more attention to the proper maintenance of other locations ( ex: on the north side) even though our gyms are just as busy and we pay the same monthly fees.

Disappointing, so far. I was a member of the same LA Fitness 4 years ago and had a decent experience. So two weeks ago I signed up again expecting the same. All the treadmills on the 2nd floor are rusted and squeak when you walk on them. The carpet is dingy and the place smells. I had an introductory meeting with a trainer thinking that he would demonstrate how to properly use the equipment, but all he did was try to sell me a training package. He sat there for an hour an yapped on and on about a training package when I told him I wasnt interested in getting a trainer when I first walked in. I will try some classes and the pool to see how things go. Southlakes LA Fitness is convenient but I am sorely disappointed. I may try the McDonough location out for size.

I have been a member of this gym for almost a year. I tried to bring my son up for a swim like I do once a month and the new GM would not let him in. He wanted to charge me $15. He wanted me to add him to my membership, which is stupid, I only use the GYm about 5 times a month and once with my son. It was part of an agreement by the previous GM, they will not honor anymore. The new GM is not interested in keeping anyone happy. Also there are alot of nasty looking folks walking around naked in the locker room, which is just rude!!! This gym is not getting any new updates either. Just old equipment and not keeping up with newer facilities.
