Place started out well enough, but just received one of the worst hard cuts from S Ive had in a long time. Perhaps a bad day. Far too much drama in the background with a curious lack of professional behavior. No doubt their pals have been writing the prior rather too glowing reviews. Not cheap either, so I expect better. I havent liked the low level homophobia here either (theres always a few titters between staff members after certain clients leave), perhaps that explains the bad haircut. In any event, I had to schedule with J before the holiday rush (S was simply too too busy) and I booked an early appointment (making sure with S that the early slot was okay with J, otherwise I would have schedule for later in the mroning). Well, I was there about three minutes before J opened the shop and that green lady from the Wizard of Oz looked a heck of a lot nicer. I definitely felt like Dorothy. She opens the shop and starts slamming her things about and then, seeing me stand in the doorway a little bewildered, says evenly, "Why don"t you sit down and get out of my way?" Honest to God, thats what she said. Now I always had S as a barber, and I would never talk bad someone who touches my hair to another staff member. Perhaps privately to a friend, but not to a staff member. I could walk bald the next time! So I say something like. "Well, it looks like I woke you up. Im sorry you had to come all this way to fix Ss mess." I smile. Silence. More slamming and now its about 10 minutes past my appointment time (I do suppose there are opening procedures). So I simply walk out. I dont need this negative energy in my life, Guess what? Within minutes I receive a slew of voice mail messages and vitriolic text messages (I dont even have a data plan - I despise text messaging) from S saying Im not welcomed anymore, that I can my money back and shes cancelled my appointment and on and on and on. Dorothy never had it so good. I saved both the text messages and the voice mail messages and theyre to be published on a site that celebrates the choice customer service experiences (theyre that good!). I mean,they were psychotic. responses even with the supposition that I had deliberately denigrated her work. Obviously, J told a tale to two to cover her behavior. Who know what is going on in the back room there. I know there has been heart break and drama that makes Paris Hilton look tame and classy, but geez, leave it at the trailer!

Old Town Barbershop in Chicago is not a fancy salon, or a place you go to sit in a waiting area and chit-chat while others get their hair cut. What they are is a well-run shop that operates with the precision of a train station. Book your reservation on the phone, or online, show up at the designated time and youre in your seat and getting clipped within two minutes of arrival. The decor is rock star chic, with steer horn antlers on the walls, wood floors, great lighting and comfortable leather chairs. The barbers that have cut my hair are always on-point, and they seem to genuinely love the place. If youre looking for an affordable, clean and professional cut - look no further.

I go here to have Austin cut my hair. I came across her as a freshman at Western Michigan University and have been going to her ever since. Back at Western she had quite the following. I recommended everyone I knew to her and they all said the same thing: "Probably the best haircut Ive ever gotten." Consequently everyone in my house and most my buddies had their hair cut by her. Luckily for me she moved to Chicago the same time I did. Im really happy I didnt have to go through the trial and error of having to find a good new barber. Tip her accordingly, fellas.

Sheree has been cutting my hair for five years, and I was very happy to learn that she has opened a barbershop with her brother Jeff. Sheree is the only person that consistently cuts my hair right every time. She never rushes, even when she is fully booked and takes her time to get it right. Add in that shop is really clean and comfortable, there is really no reason to go anywhere else. I highly recommend it to anyone that is tired of the cliché, faux-manly barbershops that sprinkle Chicago (and charge an arm and a leg for a cut).

I had no other options since my barbershop was closed, but they set me up for an early appointment and I loved it. Youd think that with the holidays, theyd be stacked, but they squeezed me in and made it work. Though I was in a rush, Britni did a great job of hooking me up with a classic part-combover in just enough time so I can get to work. Very friendly and great vibes; though I live nowhere near Old Town, I will recommend it to anyone in the area.

I love the place, it has a good vibe, the people are friendly and very easy to talk to, plus for the price its a good deal for a quality cut compared to a few blocks east. I recently moved to Chicago and have been hear twice. I think this will be my regular barber shop from now on, I highly recommend it.
