I have been going to this location for about seven years now. Since I have started here this location has gone down hill. I workout about six days a week so I am there often to know what condition this facility is in. There have been numerous complaints to management, but nothing has changed. The facility is almost always dirty every time I workout. There are weights, paper towels, water bottles a trash everywhere regardless of what time I am there. Most of the time I am at the gym at 5am and can tell that the evening employees do nothing besides sit behind the front desk talking or playing with their cell phones. Before they lock up it would be nice to see that they pick up the gym so its somewhat clean for the morning folks. The mens locker room is probably smelliest (I try to stay out of it because it smells so bad) and dirtiest locker rooms I have ever been in. I would not trust getting in the shower regardless if I was wearing shower shoes. The carpet needs to be taken out because it is probably the number one factor leading to the smell that slaps you in the face every time you walk in there. The urinals and stalls look absolutely filthy. The locker room/ bathrooms needs to be gutted and refinished. From what I hear, the womens locker room is not any better. My girlfriend went to wash her hands and out came some black crust along with her soap....This is pretty nasty!!! It was also brought to my attention that the kids club is not any better. At one point there was urine on the carpet in the play area which was left there and crusted over. Not too long ago there was also urine all over the kids club bathroom that also crusted over. Of course, there was no urgency to clean it up. A complaint was made by a friend of mine, but nothing was done to ease her frustration. When it comes to the equipment and work out area there is again much to be improved. There is almost always a piece of equipment that is broken every week and it takes almost two to three weeks to get it fixed. For example one of the calf machines broke and was taken out, almost a month ago and still has not been replaced. There are handles to the cable machines that are either always missing or in need of replacement. To say the least this gym needs a lot of attention. I can go on and on about what is wrong with it, but I am sure you get the picture. Julian, one of the managers there is very good about listening to complaints, but there is only so much the man can do. The gym just got a new operations manager, so maybe there will be some changes?.. maybe not, but as far as I know this gym needs serious help. I am not writing this review to bash LA Fitness, but in hopes this will help others in making a decision before coming here and in hopes that someone in higher management will be able to get this gym on track.

I have to update review from 3 stars to 1. There are weights left lying everywhere and on machines. A perfect example is the guy that pulled a weight sled with eight 45 pound plates into the middle of the club, decided it was too heavy and simply left it there. Staff was notified and an hour later it was still sitting there. I realize staff is busy. Every gym needs a staff member sitting at a desk randomly throwing a volleyball against the wall, its just a given for a good gym. I even asked a manager if there was anything they could do and she said no. They dont make people pick up their weights and other garbage and staff wont pick it up. If you can join here free or with a discount from work or something go for it otherwise just pick up the garbage and furniture in your neighbors yard. That is what youll be doing half the time here. Ill start with the good. This place has a ton of machines and free weights. During the day and early afternoon there is always something free to work on. They also have enough squat racks and benches where some places have none. The custodians and maintenance staff also do an excellent job of keeping a place that large and busy clean. The in club Clique Nutrition store is also nice. They have a small but varied selection of products that arent overpriced to gouge you. If they dont have a flavor or size they will get it within a day or two from another store free of charge. The average tends to be the members. Like any place there is a mixture of experienced and beginners. Some people tend to take dumbbells or several dumbbells and either disappear with them or sit in the middle of their group of dumbbells. There is very little socialization between members. Im use to smaller gyms where at the least you will get get a hey or some other recognition. Some people appear shocked when you ask for a spot or how many sets they have left. I havent had any bad experiences, but at the same time nothing real positive. The negative is keeping the free weights area clean. There are weight plates left on all the machines and the ground. There have been times when there are no weights between 10 and 30 pounds because people leave them in other areas and dont bring them back to the rack. I figure this isnt the custodians job, but the trainers and front staff. They walk through the area often enough, or sit at computers in the front talking. They can take 5 minutes every hour and clean up the area. The dumbbell set up is also a little off. This is pretty nit-picky but its just weird to have to walk across a busy gym to go up weight or do a drop set.

Ive been a member for a while. I was previously a member of Lifetime Fitness. Its definitely not the quality of Lifetime, but it also costs half as much and in this area, there are a lot more LA Fitness locations which is convenient. One by my house (Oswego) and one by my office(Oak Brook) and one on the way home (Naperville) offer a lot of options for working out when and where I want. Ive taken some of the classes and have enjoyed the free weights class and my husband really enjoyed the water aerobics. The option for the pool is what makes me go here over one of the cheaper local gyms that dont have pools. My husband loves to swim and I enjoy being able to use the hot tub when my muscles are sore. With the exception of the super busy times, like right after work and any time in January, that the gym isnt too busy and I can usually get the machine I want. Any decent gym will be packed at certain times of the day, thats just how they are! My husband used the personal trainer service in Oswego and it was expensive, but much cheaper than Lifetime (a friend of mine used their service and we compared prices). I do wish they were open 24/7, but the hours they have arent terrible. The only real complaint I have is the showers. I generally avoid them. Almost every time Ive been there I have seen disgusting chunks (yes chunks) of hair in the womens showers. This is the same for all 3 locations Ive visited. Lifetime never had that problem. I have no idea what is different about the two chains, but its absolutely disgusting. I do my best to avoid showering there by going after work and on weekends so I can shower at home.
