I am disappointed to say that I never encountered more rude and disrespectful treatment than I did here. Death is always a difficult and emotional thing, and you would expect to find that those involved in this industry are overly compassionate. Unfortunately, the funeral director I dealt with here showed her true colors, revealing her compassion level is somewhere around 0. My grandmother had passed away and through no fault of my own, she had no life insurance. I exhausted every effort to get her burial assistance but I was unfortunately unsuccessful. I had previously agreed to pay an amount well under the full cost of services if indeed no assistance came to fruition, keep in mind this was offered to me by the funeral home director herself. When I informed her that that was all I would be paying, she seemed disappointed. I understand, though she felt the need to condescendingly tell me, that as a business they cannot "bury people for free" - her words. Nonetheless, this was the amount she had previously agreed to. I am not suggesting my actions in this situation were perfect, I was understandably frustrated and upset. This is the second major loss I was handling in less than 6 months and was now without the mother and grandma who raised me, along with my father who took his own life in February. I had told her about this, yet she simply didnt seem to care. At least when dealing with my fathers passing, the staff I dealt with was incredibly understanding and compassionate. Here, I was snottily told that I should be saying thank you for them doing me a favor. I would encourage anyone who has an option of funeral homes for their loved ones in CF/Waterloo to do what this woman told my fiancée she should have done with my grandmothers body, let another home pick them up.

This is a tough review to write because planning a funeral is such an emotional experience. I am extremely pleased with the compassion and care we received from Parrott & Wood. When we started planning, Christine presented each option starting with the lowest cost first. When we found the plan that fit our needs she didnt pressure for a single upgrade. The facility is beautiful and the staff was on top of everything during the visitation. From reminders to take a break and drink water, making sure visitors who needed extra assistance were taken care of and giving the family space when we found it difficult to leave at the end of the evening. Its clear they have the expertise to anticipate and act on the needs of the grieving. The funeral service the next day was held at our church, but Jen and others from Parrott & Wood were there the whole time making sure we knew what to expect and that things went smoothly. We havent started the process of selecting the headstone yet, but based on our experience so far I expect that will go just as well. Thank you, Parrott & Wood, for caring for our family and helping us to get through such a difficult time.

Zack Martin, I am so sorry you are disappointed and felt you were treated rudely. We responded to your fiancées call on a holiday, knowing funds were an issue, and that you had no other options. I provided services in the amount of $2856.20 for $95.00, which was all you indicated you could afford. Frankly, if we did all of our services at such a discount, we would not be in business for long. We do approach any loss with compassion and consider it an honor and privilege to help people through a difficult time. Please bear in mind, there are always two sides to every story and that we elect to take the high road by not sharing all of the details.
