Born and raised in Wichita I have always heard Scotch and Sirloin is one of the highest class places in town to eat. After 27 years I finally found myself in their dinning room tonight and I must say it was nothing like what I expected. Ill start with a positive: we didnt have to wait long at all to be seated, probably because of the lack of customers. I ordered their namesake sirloin cooked rare with a house salad, and a glass of Sam Adams. The salad was warm which is a disappointing way to being dinner. The steak was medium well- a far cry from rare. The waitress did immediately take it back... actually she gave it to my friend (classy move) who had ordered his medium well to replace the past well done steak he received. While waiting on my replacement steak the waitress informed us that the cooks have a difficult time not over cooking the steaks because the kitchen is not air conditioned so everything is just hotter. That excuse makes no sense unless its 150 degrees in there but it was interesting to find out one of the most up-scale restaurants in town cant afford to have air-conditioning in the kitchen. About this point in the meal I finished off the beer and ordered another. I was brought a Coors Light to my disappointed. She did give it to my friend on the house which was nice. Anyway, my next steak comes out and its well done, cooked even more than the previous steak. At that point I was so hungry I told her I was just going to eat it. For being a steakhouse that steak was miserable. I would put it on par with something you could get at Applebees. You could pin it on the cook for under-seasoning and over cooking, but they might not be the ones selecting the cut or any aging process. I didnt care about getting a discount or getting anything free for the poor experience I had but they did give me a dessert for what its worth. At one point in the meal I noticed that the table I was eating at (all the tables actually) was in fact a plastic folding table with a cloth on it. Not that it really matters but its far from high class. So overall it was a bad experience not because it didnt live up to my expectations, but because it was worse than most places in town. I would strongly suggest Texas Roadhouse over this place for a quality reasonably priced steak, or for a high class out-of-this-world fillet try Cafe Bel Ami downtown. And I will end on another positive, in the mens room there is a racy poster of a nude woman, classy right?

For the price we paid and the expectations we had for this place it was a total let down. Was a Monday evening around 19:30. Given a booth that was not made up with cutlery and napkins etc and had a slight bad odour to it, a definite deep clean is overdue. We got the sales pitch to buy a great deal bottle of wine for $100, sort of expected that but we didnt want it. Starters arrived but no cutlery yet. We prompted a staff member who brought us 3 forks each then left. I began to eat my shrimps with my hands but was desperate for a napkin. Again we got the staff member to assist. We got 2 napkins from the store and one was taken from another table. My friend ordered a salad to have with his main meal this turned up as a stand alone extra course. We explained again that this salad was to arrive with the steaks it was taken back. Quite a while later our mains arrived, swiftly laid on the table and the staff disappeared. No knives or steak knives as yet have made an appearance at our table. Yet again we asked for cutlery and at last steak knives were robbed from another set table for us. My steak was nicely cooked rare but was at best tepid at the table as if it had been sat waiting to be served in the kitchen. My whole party felt disappointment with the expirience and will not be returning. Sort out the basics, in a town full of great steak restaurants you need to lead the field at those prices we paid over $300.

Its a sad day that I have to change my review from a 5 to a 2. The food is good and the atmosphere has always been great but a big part of the experience is the customer service. Today of all days...Mothers Day..my best friend who is a mother received at best terrible service. My plates were removed, my drinks were refilled, and my napkin was even folded everytime I got up to get another plate from the buffet. Unfortunately my guest did not receive the same service. She had to continually ask for her plates to be removed, her drinks refilled, and no one folded her napkin. She was not treated in the same manner. Especially this day of all days. We then left and she called the Manager a couple of hours later who did not offer an resolution. Its sad that a Wichita tradition has dropped in service and status. Dont think this review means anything? You have no idea how much local social media clout I have. Seriously...for $120.00 everyone should have been treated like kings and queens. Definitely will not be returning after an insulting experience. There are plenty of other dining alternatives in this town.

It is ridiculous to charge for sour cream on a baked potato! The Scotch has traditionally had the best prime rib in town! I quit going for a time because the food and service had got so bad and the prices had gotten so high. If I am going to pay for a meal like this, I certainly better be able to say it was a great experience. Last September we went for Dads 80th birthday and everything was great. I was so happy to be able to enjoy good prime rib again. Since the new owners took it over, everything on the menu is higher priced, but occasionally you enjoy going some place special. We went last week and I have to say after paying $38.00 for the prime rib, it seems ridiculous to charge for sour cream on a baked potato. Really? I understand if you order it loaded, many restaurants charge for that, but I cant believe you are charging extra for sour cream. Next thing you know, you will charge for salad dressing on a salad! It is really a principal thing for me...just stupid to charge for this when you are in this type of atmosphere!

First, the two positive points. The prime rib that someone else got was great and the creme brûlée was AMAZING. However, the sea food platter is a joke, to put it VERY lightly. I was very unpleasantly surprised. For $50 something you get a couple tasteless, still semi frozen, bland prawns, overcooked tiny crab claws (literally tasted like rubber) and very poor quality oysters that tasted like nothing but salt water- you can get twice as much food and better quality at red lobster. It was outrageously priced for very little food that had no flavor. They also have a $65 lobster tail plate and it looked very tiny and unimpressive... I know, I know: seafood at a steak place, my bad. But seriously? THAT expensive for a tiny handful of over cooked and under seasoned meat? Literally a couple bites of disappointment for $70 when you included the tip, brûlée, and tax. I went home broke, hungry, and pissed off. I will return solely for dessert, if I even ever come back.
