My wife took our 2005 Toyota Camry here for a routine oil change, and was surprised when the tech said we had an oil leak. We just bought the car about 5 months ago so this was our second oil change. It has been a good car and we havent had any problems with it. We never noticed any oil leaking, never smelled burning oil, and the oil light has never come on. In fact, less than a week earlier, we had taken the car from Louisville to Nashville and back. There were absolutely no indicators of an oil leak. The tech took her back to show her the oil that was all over the engine. It was covered in oil -- splattered up on the underside of the hood (right above the oil cap) and all over the manifold. She didnt think about it at the time, but the oil was fresh -- definitely not oil that had been running through an engine for three months. The engine looked fairly clean except for the fresh oil -- There was no dirt and grime that would have certainly accumulated and attached itself to the oil if there had been an oil leak happening for a period of time. Since it was fresh, the oil had to have already been changed at this point. Furthermore, the car was in the garage for about 10-15 minutes before the tech came to speak with her -- sufficient time to change the oil, but too much time to not have already noticed the mess of oil that was all over. The tech explained that the car was going to need about $500 worth of repairs. My wife immediately called me worried about the cost. I asked her to have them finish the oil change, but hold off on the repairs while I called my automotive friend at the car lot where we bought the car. My friend asked if we would bring the car by so he could look at it. My wife drove the 15 miles from Meineke to the car lot. After looking at the car, he immediately told her that with as much oil as it was losing, that she would end up on the side of the road if she tried to take it home. He said that there is no way anyone could drive the car much more than a day without ending up on the side of the road. But that wasnt all he said. Because of the pattern of oil on the top of the car above the oil cap and all over the top of the manifold, our automotive friend said, "Im 100% certain that the car was started with the oil cap off." He explained that if it was just the manifold leaking, there is no way the oil would seep "up" to the top of the manifold and to the hood of the car. The next day, after he replaced the valve cover set, he explained that he didnt like to accuse people of shoddy work, but this looked very suspicious. The valve cover gasket was split in half in a way that does not happen from normal usage. It almost looked as if someone had taken a screwdriver and wedged it up against it. He suggested that a possible scenario was that a rookie technician mistakenly left the cap off, started the car, and, in an effort to cover his mistake, wedged a screwdriver into the valve cover gasket. That last bit is quite speculative. But what is not speculative is that my car was working fine before I took it to Meineke, and it was not after I left. There is no way we could have been driving around with that bad of a leak, and for three months up to that point, no one has been under the hood of that car except for Meineke. Ironically, if the Meineke technician had come to my wife and told her, "Im sorry. We made a mistake and we need to keep your car for a bit longer to fix it. Dont worry about the cost -- we made the mistake, its on us..." I would probably be a Meineke customer for life. But dont expect to see me at Meineke after this.

This place is a joke, and apparently known for ripping people off. They quoted me $620 to replace my exhaust. I had it done for $225 at a shop less than a mile away. They also quoted me $600 for a tune up on my four cylinder truck. Thats four spark plugs and a coil pack. $85 in parts... Thats over $500 in labor for maybe 15 mins work!! Replace four plugs, and replace a coil that is held on with two screws.... To top it off, the technician that examined my exhuast shut my hood so hard it broke the retaing braxjwt and ountured my radiator. When they brought it out after I told them their prices were way too high, they told me I was leaking coolant. I had my exhaust examined, which is nowhere near my radiator. After getting home and inspecting it myself, it was obvious whomever shut my hood did the damage. The manager refused to believe me and told me they would pay for the price of a new one. Never trust Meineke. Period

I went in to get new brake pads and was told that my rear rotors needed to be replaced. They said the front was fine but the back was to far gone to resurface. My husband asked me to just have the front pads replaced because it was very rare that the rear would go out before the front. After I asked them to just fix the front the manager Brad Edgerton responded in a harsh way. I was kept there for over two hours. The next day I took my car to the dealership who looked at my rotors and reported that they were fine and then I took it to one more place and they said it was just my brake pads, my rear rotors were fine they did not even need to be resurfaced. The guys at Meineke took me for a fool probably because I am a lady and they almost made $400 off of me for nothing. Ladies please do not go there unless you know something about cars!!

Had a problem with a repair here. This is to be expected occasionally since automotive diagnostics can be complicated. I called the 800 number for Meineke Corporate and reported the problem on the answering machine. 24 hours later the district manager (over all nine Meineke stores in Louisville and Southern Indiana) called to inquire about my problem. He directed me to another store where the problem was fixed without delay. They didnt charge me anything. Then the DM issued me a refund for services for initial payment. Good customer service. If you have a repair problem theyll stand behind their service.

Do not I repeat do not take your vehicle for any type of maintenance to this company. I was charged a $119.00 to unlock my gear shifter for my 2005 nissan altima. They claimed to have cleaned & lubed the shifter. This service was never done. The mechanic still left out the piece were he stuck a key inside the hole on top of my gear shifter in order to make it move freely. I was told that if it continues to stick, I would be looking at $1200.00 for a whole new shifter. The hell with this company. Let it burn to the ground

This place is a real joke. You go for oil change and they will try to find some other issue to rip you off. The first time they have charged me almost $400 for oil change and 2 new tires. The second time I went for oil change and they have shown me that my front and back quick strut need to be changed. In reality theres a rubber covering the strut which is busted and they just want to replace it and offer me a payment plan. Are you guys kidding me??? Such a rip off
