came to job corps September 21st 2015 and thought it was a very nice place after being here six months I realize that this is no place for a person who already has their high school diploma its very hard the staff are disrespectful they treat you like kids the instructors dont care like they say they do the cd talks his head off every Monday and Friday you have early curfews in you contract that you sign about no tolerance for bullying thats all a lie and dont matter how long you planned to be here if they feel like you done they will rush you out and dont care about how you feel. they have celebrations but none of those kids actually make it they show favoritism to the bad kids and treat the good kids like crap. no clubs, no swimming pools, no extra activities like sports they do let you go off center but the rec aids treat you like 10 year olds and they will write you up for any and everything barely anything to do in there either if you want to do this the only way to be successful through hard trades is if you get certified or the union other than that coming here would be wasting you time they have a college program but they told me I could not go you have to have at least a 600 or higher on your tabe and yeah the people suck the food suck.. the teachers are disorganized and they are lazy.. the dorms suck if you want to become a dorm leader get that out your head they reserve it for hood rats that like to fight and try to run over you .. yea do not come here unless your planning to be non res or you have an actual plan I just beg you to please not waist your time like I did.. Good luck.. ps. by the way this whole campus is haunted with slaves and we are on a big plantation in the middles of no where and the weather is bi polar...

I really enjoyed being here. But for so long it gets really annoying. A lot of the students come and take it for granted. A bunch of the staff really doesnt care what anyone thinks. As long as they get paid theyre happy. They dont take bullying seriously only if theyre violent. I had a bad case of it and they only said they would talk to the other person. After you graduate they have no desire to try to contact you. At all. Not even the instructors. You come in and they get you out as soon as possible. The people the Center Director lets in this place are HORRIBLE. Waaay too much violence and drug dealing. So many negative people. Students and staff. We have a set schedule every single day. And its not what youre used to after a while. You get used to it. The best part is I guess the staff lets us go off center for the weekend. But one weekend the staff is so lazy they left us stranded in the blistering sun. And when I called them to see where they were "they forgot they had to get us" was their response. So ridiculous. But however the CD does everything he can to make this a great experience for us. We get to go to movies, we get to go to the outlet mall. The only bad part is they take it to extremes when you want to go off center. And we never get to choose the places. In July he took everyone to Kentucky kingdom. Everyone loved it. I had a blast. And when you leave you really do keep your friends. I left a month and a half ago and I still talk to my friends. Best advice I can give is no distractions. Try to stay focused. Get a job when you get there and stick with it because they dont give you a ton of money. And when you do get paid spend it wisely. And stay out of drama. Thats what gets a lot of people kicked out.

I am currently a student on this center . Overall the Whitney M. Young Job center is a fantastic alternative route for a free education and training on skills you need for the the field of work .At this moment is the limited amount of staff that is available on center, they are beyond short handed in basically every department and it creates a dramatic effect on the students that are residenents of the campus. The second of the flaws on the campus is since it is a facility ran by the government it is strict , unfortunately strict to where you feel like you are in a boot camp . If you are notified that stores are available and errand runs are available that is true . One time a month though. Please dont come here thinking you will be able to get where you need to Bonita always a run around . Majority of the residents on this campus falls in the age range of 17-22, yet with these ages listed , you find that you are treated as a child. Its overall a good FREE way to further your education and or gain an education , but this campus specifically has a lot going on right now.

Though my experience was over 10 years ago known as Tiffany Y Fields at that time, I find myself successful in my employment endeavors. I thank my skills acquired there for they were the foundational grounds that set the tone of workforce success. Thanks for taking the time to invest in the future of the less fortunate, for the skills and opportunity to overcome where so many others failed to step outside the box, due to societys inability to speak life instead settling for the poverty stricken mindset of generations who were never given the opportunity to come out of the comfort zone of that poverty stricken mindset. FOREVER THANKFUL!

My Culinary Arts instructor at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center- Chef Kristopher Cole was extremely thorough with having the Training Achievement Records completed ASAP with the required skills. Plus, he had instructed on materials taught to him at Sullivan University through The Bakery location at Sullivan University, after Chef Kristopher Cole went for a Culinary Degree afterwards of his graduation. Wonderful Learning Experience- & Paid For The Time Spent Attending Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps center. Plus, no required payment to attend, they paid you.

You get out of it what you put into it. I was in welding and SGA I completed with a welding certificate, HSD, Drivers License, OSHA and forklift. Theres no where else you can get all that for free it was a great experience. Only thing i would change is letting 16 year olds live on campus with adults. I would change the on campus age to 18.

Whitney M Young was the start of a new life for me and the foundation of my education and my career. The experience was off the chain. I received my first taste of leadership while I was there, and met life long friends and my OT family that we all still stay in touch. Im forever thankful to this place and the staff.
