Because I havent used petrochemical-based products on my skin or hair in years, my scalp never reacts well when I get it cut at conventional salons that still use strong detergent shampoos. So I was extremely happy to discover Maine Natural Hair & Skin, and really enjoyed having Clare cut and highlight my hair (after a disastrous attempt at a home hair cut, for which she was wonderfully kind and professional and didnt make me feel embarrassed about at all). Since she only works with one client at a time, you get to experience a peaceful environment and Clares careful attention while enjoying the cute and light-filled Salon overlooking Congress Street in Portland. She is a meticulous researcher of natural products and remedies, and I very much enjoyed talking with her to better understand the products she uses and recommends, as well as advice for finding a lifestyle that is supportive of both health and beauty on my own. Ill definitely be going back to get my bangs trimmed (no more DIYs for me) and look forward to trying out her skincare treatments some day!

Clare is so skilled at what she does! As a curly girl, Im pretty particular about who I let style my hair - and Clare put me right at ease. She was patient and thorough, taking her time to make sure she understood all the quirks of my curls before delivering a fantastic cut that kept length (HUGE for me!) and gave my hair movement and shape. As for skin care, she made me a convert! Clare treated my sensitive skin gently and effectively - all in my lunch hour. She listened to my current routine (minimal) and helped guide me to a line of Isun products that I could commit to using. (And Im about as low maintenance as it comes, so this was a big step for me!) You cant help but feel beautiful when you use beautiful products, and Ive Clare to thank for that! Whether youre heading to Maine Natural for your hair or skin - or better yet, both! - you can absolutely trust you are in good hands.

Clare is wonderful! Not only does she know her stuff (and science) when it comes to hair, its really refreshing to know she herself loves to live a natural life. Conversation is always fun and informative, I learn something new everytime I see her! I was a little nervous about cutting and coloring my hair but she really listened to what I wanted. I am so please with how it turned out! Im also not one for styling products but my hair always falls flat. However, the hair porducts she sells are amazing. The hair spray doesnt leave my hair sticky, stiff or crunchy and it allows me to keep beachy waves for 2 days! Would definitely recommend her services.

Clare is amazing! Im so glad our paths crossed, especially at a time when I was desperately in need of a new stylist. Im totally loving my more natural highlights, how had I never heard of balayage before meeting Clare?! Shes so down to earth, friendly, and welcoming. And I love that she uses natural and organic products. She gave me some samples that did wonderful things for my curly hair, its seriously never looked so perfectly spiraled with so little effort! And, this is such a modern, lofty space! The last time Id been in here, it was a tattoo parlor. Its definitely gotten a facelift since then!

This was my first time getting a facial and it was a great experience. The place was spacious and relaxing, and Clare was very welcoming. She listened to my concerned and focused on those problem areas. She even invested the time to talk to me afterwards and give me advice on different natural skin care products and I bought several of the products available right then and there. Its been almost 2 weeks since I had my facial and the skin care routine she gave me has already shown tremendous results. My skin has calmed down, my acne scars are fading, and I havent broken out since. I highly recommend!

For once, I had a wonderful experience getting my hair cut. I came in with a vague idea and she made it come to life. Ive had long hair for long as I can remember and went to her for a shorter cut, where she suggested the lob, which I am now obsessed with. Clare did an amazing job and knew exactly what would compliment the frame of my face. She was extremely helpful when it came to hair styling tips and I found her new place very calm and relaxing.
