Ive been to Beatnik 3 times before. They do an okay job cutting hair. $20 gets you a haircut (including tip), and if you live nearby, you can go home and shower off the hair all over your face/clothes/whatever. Works for me. Today, on my fourth visit, I walked ten minutes to get to the shop, and one of the barbers closed the door and locked it right as I reached the steps. It was 5 minutes before closing time, and they were just finishing their one last customer. She turned to the owner to ask if she could let me in...and he refused. And then he laughed at me. And then he "shooed" me away like a dog. It was 50 degrees and had just started raining. He thought it was hillarious. Was 5 minutes before closing time too late to come? Sure. But he had an opportunity to let me in, and get a nice tip from an appreciative customer who would come to Google and write a wonderful review. Or, he could have opened the door, said sorry its too late, and I wouldve come back the next week. Instead, he chose to be insulting. I went to my barber shop in Falls Church for 4 years. Beatnik lost me after the fourth visit. Who wants to spend money in a place that doesnt give a damn about their customers?

Ive struggled to find consistancy in the marketplace. Quite frankly I drive 30 minutes to sit with these folks. The environment is clean, the people are down to earth and the value is amazing. Ive been visiting Pete and crew for the past 2 years and have never once walked away disappointed. They have a variety of clipper choices from the high end metal clips down to the economical plastic clips (this matters to me as I get short style cuts). I always get finished up with a straight blade and alcohol whipe down. Even though there is no "appointments", here you simply do not need them. Ive honestly NEVER waited longer then 20 minutes for a cut and most of the time I wait no longer then 5-7 minutes. This place 5 star no question... Infact, I need a Beatnik cut right now... see you in 30 Pete!

I had a really crappy haircut from another place. I went in there and was initially intimidated because I was the only black person there and there was a bit of a wait. I was in and out of there within 40 minutes and there were at least 5 people in front me. Jay was able to take the poor haircut I had gotten previously and make it into the best haircut I have ever had. He listened to everything I wanted and was able to give me that and more. He was amazing. Before it was my turn, I watched the other barbers cut other customers hair and all of their haircuts were nicely done. All the barbers are quick, precise, and personable. They also shave your neck with warm shaving cream and a single blade razor which was a really nice touch.

I have been going to the beatnik since almost its opening, and have seen changes in barbers, decor, coffee and not coffee, and prices. The one constant has always been the friendly environment, the great give and take with cutters and customers, the excellent haircuts, and the New York Times. My son (14) gets his hair cut maybe twice a year, but actually looks forward to Heather and the friendly and open way she talks to him--plus the good haircut. I cant think of a better, more stimulating barber shop in Baltimore. Good work, done inexpensively, with a load of personality.

When I went two of the "barbers" were actually cosmotologists and therefore werent licensed to edge up my haircut with a straight edge razor. They both work in this barbershop but cant do a basic undercut very well. The fade one gave me is poor and the changes in length arent level on either side of my head. She finished in less than 20 minutes but I think thats because she didnt know where to go with it and how to get the details right. Really nice people and I feel bad leaving a poor review but this is not a place for men to get their hair cut.

The atmosphere is great, the music is great, the haircut is great and the price is great. The parking does cost 50 cents, but for over 15 cuts I have never had to park more than 50 feet from the door. But I love that I can walk in and have a relaxing haircut from my barber with my son and it’s totally cool and it’s not $50 or a terrible national chain. You will probably have to wait 10 minutes so enjoy the music, the atmosphere and bring a cup of coffee. You will leave looking and feeling great. I love this place.

Grew my hair out for two months, waited for an hour and a half only to get the one guy who only knows how to do one type of haircut. Had a good 2.5" of hair on my head and asked to leave most of the length in top and for a #1 faded into the top length. He started with a #1 and undercut all the way up the sides and I knew there was no going back. Seriously considering buzzing it off bc of this. Will not be returning. I look like a fckn nazi some hitler youth type shi

Haircut was acceptable, but wasnt exactly what I asked for and Ive had better. No coffee to be seen, despite the apparent promotion of a cup along with the cut. Store hours were different from those posted on Google Maps by the store owner, which made my first attempted visit turn out to be a waste of time. Real store hours are currently 11-7 Monday - Thursday, 10-8 Friday, 10-5 Saturday. The interior was nice, the music mix was good, and the staff was friendly.

Beatnik does a great job for $16, but most people Ive seen throw em a $20 and consider it a great bargain. Sorry some customers had a bad day with them. Every time Ive gone -- at least a dozen haircuts worth now -- Ive gotten a great haircut fast, decent conversation or quiet if I prefer and no reason to beef. Of course, I didnt show up 5 minutes before they closed... Just an average customer not letting the naysayers get all the digital ink.

This place is great, service is fast professional and the barbers are great to talk to. Cut cost $16 (summer 2011) but you wont find a better cut for that price in the city (believe me i tried) I just moved to Baltimore and needed a new chop shop. After a few bad cuts at cheap shops, i went here on a recommendation from a friend (and Google) checked this place out and i will definitely be back

My favorite barbershop in Baltimore. All of the barbers are friendly and good at what they do. Ive never gotten a haircut I didnt like at this place. They also go the extra mile and give you a neck shave at the end, which feels nice. The shop is decorated nicely, too. The wait can get long at peak times, so if you can try to go during the week. But they are well worth the wait if you cant!
