I went to Totten Pond Automotive to get my MA State Inspection, after recently moving to the area. I sought to also get an oil change, but did not arrive in time to have it done that day. Two days later, Saturday, they were already scheduled to be super busy. I was hoping to get the oil change that day, as I would be starting a new job the following week, which would severely limit my ability to schedule car work thereafter. I had just driven from Colorado, so I really wanted to get a checkup and oil change. Basically, while communicating my overall situation after the State inspection work, I was told that if I wanted to have my car there that Saturday morning @7:30, right as they opened, they could squeeze in an oil change and checkup. And thats what I ended up doing. Then, later that day on Saturday we got over 6 inches of snow, but I was able to get the work done on my car that I needed, in the timeframe that I needed it. Now, they may not always be able to accommodate that quickly, but, being new to the area, and not yet having established any kind of relationship with any mechanics/garages in the area, the people at Totten Pond Automotive showed me a level of service that, frankly, exceeded my expectations. I know I will be going there again when I need car work in the future. Thank you Totten Pond Automotive!

Ive had work done here on my Civic and CR-V (oil changes, maintenance/repair and state inspections), and in both cases its been super-efficient. I work nearby, so its super convenient - I just drop it off on my way to work, and they give you a ride to your work if its in Waltham (which mine is). Never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the ride. If its a repair, theyll call once theyve had a chance to take a look, and they can tell you up front whether they have the parts (they generally do, at least for my Hondas), and how much it will cost for parts, labor, and tax. They get it done the same day, and call again to let you know its ready. The repair shop closes at 5, but the gas station store will handle pickups until 8pm, so getting there before it closes is never an issue for me. Ive only had one other mechanic, and he worked on other cars, so I cant really compare prices, but its worth it to me for the convenience. One other thing: I see some people complain about the price of gas here. But in my experience, all Shell stations charge about 30c more than other brands (thats how they can afford to give you a "discount" for your Stop-n-Shop points). I dont find them out of line with other Shell stations for gas prices.

I went in to get my car inspected a little later in the day 4:35 (garage closes at 5:00). Was told that it was to late and he could not do the inspection today and to come back tomorrow. I politely asked if there was any way he could fit me in and was told (in an irritated voice) "No! you came to late and I have two cars in front of you and I am not staying late". I completely understand everyone gets to the end of the day and they just want to get home but I looked in the inspection bay and it was empty and then proceeded to get gas and checked in the bay upon leaving and again no car in the inspection bay. I have never received service from this garage and who knows they could be great. I just dont like being lied to. I would have rather been told hey Im closing this place down I am sorry can you come back in the morning or hey we are really under the gun to fix this customers car by 5 and cant spare a man. Just tell the truth! When you get lied to about a simple thing you have to think, what else would this place lie about when it comes to servicing my car. I can seriously say just by the attitude of the person I spoke with I can never recommend this place to anyone and or get my car serviced there.

I have used Totten Pond a number of times over a 16 year period. It is a good and trustworthy place to get service. Have been surprised a small number of times with a refusal to perform a less expensive fix in lieu of a more expensive one. Totten Pond refused to press a busing into a control arm and offered to replace the whole assembly, for example. The difference would have been 200+ dollars. Another shop pressed the bushing in for me, no questions asked. They also said no to replacing a steering rack boot, insisting that the whole rack needed to be replaced. I replaced this part myself for $30 bucks. Never had a problem... But I can understand, that it is easier to play it safe sometimes. Overall they are a very reliable shop with decent prices and dependable workmanship. One of the only places I have come across that let me bring my own parts. I would not hesitate about bringing my cars there.

I love them! Ive been going to them since July of 2010. They are extremely customer service oriented and HONEST! Let me say that one more time...HONEST. Eddie goes the extra mile in checking prices (I needed new tires) to make sure I was getting the best deal. When I first went, I had a 2000 Dodge Durango and happily put in his capable hands. I then purchased a Lexus and was just as comfortable knowing he had the skills and the equipment to just as fabulous as he did before. (And gave me a few pointers!) They are the only place I trust my car. I would go there any day over going to the Lexus dealership. I like the fact he gives me a heads up on what I may want to do in the future (rear shocks) and tells me it isnt urgent but I will need it done in a few months. I can not recommend them enough. My entire office goes there now.

Im sure they are great with oil changes and preventive maintenance but my experience was poor. I was leaving work and my old Volvo 240 was struggling so I stopped here and had them take a look at it. The next day I was told the main fuel pump was giving low fuel flow and needed to be replaced for almost $600. I was suspicious because I know the fuel pump typically works or it doesnt. It sounded like an electrical issue to me. Turns out he didnt measure voltage at the fuel pump. I passed on the work and fixed the issue myself. Turns out a new crank position sensor and CPU fuse were needed for less than $50. I unfortunately had to pay the $99 charge just to have the car looked at.

Thanks for a great experience getting my car worked on! Needed new brake pads and rotors, along with an oil change. John was very honest with me about what I needed/didnt need/could live without, and worked with me to decide on what to do for my car. Its now back in great, working order. I got a call with a quote, and then a call when it was done. Car was done quickly, and I was able to pick it up at my convenience. You know, it can be tough going in for auto work as a woman, and I am not very knowledgeable about cars, but I felt I was treated more than fairly and everything was explained in a kind, non-condescending manner. I highly recommend! Thanks for everything! I will be back!
