John Riley III
My name is John Riley and before I enrolled my kids and myself ad SBG in Wareham MA, I had stopped in and looked into them the year before we started going. From the start I got the vibe that I was in the write place that I wanted my kids to learn BJJ and myself. When you walk in the door you are greeted by someone on the staff that is up beat, positive and wants to help answer any questions you have. As they take you on the tour of their facility they share with you the background and history of SBG along with the experience of the staff working there. Their kids program and curriculum is what interested me the most. Their approach is much more than just teaching about BJJ, but about teaching kids how to be good rounded people and respectful of others. Hearing that they give the kids homework that focuses on being good at home and in school was something I was not expecting. When the time was right to sign my kids up I knew exactly where I wanted to take them. From the time I signed my kids up in March of 2015 until now the transformation has been amazing. My daughter who is 6 and used to very shy has turned into someone that has become confident and outgoing. She loved SBG so much that she quite her favorite sport gymnastic to focus on BJJ. The transformation has been awesome to watch. My son who is 5 that was very active and had hard time focusing morphed into a kid that would follow direction, and listen when being told to do something. My own experience was just as great at SBG. Having a wrestling background made me want to learn BJJ even more. The problem I had was my job had me traveling a lot, and at different times in the week which made it hard to attend classes. They proactively reached out to me and asked if I wanted to take some private lessons to help me get up to speed when I missed classes from traveling. Being able to take private classes that fit my schedule really showed me they wanted to help me grow in the sport of BJJ. This approach solidified in my mind how professional, and how well they run their program at SBG East Cost. We recently had to move from MA to FL and leave the SBG family, but they set a great foundation for my kids, and myself on the type of program we want to be apart of when we find another place to join in FL. I want to thank Jeff Perez for leading such a great team of coaches that made my families experience a great one! A special thanks to Coach Chad, Coach Tiff and Coach Mike you guys are great at what you do so keep doing it!! :) We will always be faithful to the SBG family that got us started! Semper FI! JRiley

I was introduced to Nexus Martial Arts and Fitness through some friends that I trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with. My 4 year old son expressed interest in training as well but the gym my wife and I attended in another city did not offer a program for children. I brought my son in to check the place out and was immediately impressed with the professionalism and cleanliness of the place. I signed my child up right away. Throughout his time there I would watch his classes. I, having trained as well could tell right away the quality of instruction my son was receiving. Not only does my son learn a martial art and form of self defense, the school really focuses on life skills that are important to these youngsters. Discipline, respect, confidence, etc. They even have seminars on how our children can deal with bullies as safely as possible. After a little time had passed my wife and I decided to join as well. Best decision ever. I have met some of the best people Ive ever met and my wifes and my training has reached another level. Now all 3 of our kids train there as well. The environment is friendly and helpful no matter what skill level youre at. You can be a beginner or a veteran, either way, youre still part of a class act team. If youre considering joining a gym to get in shape, learn self defense, fight in a cage, whatever.. Do it, check out Nexus, they even give you a trial membership to see if you like it or not. Nothing to lose, a lot to gain.

YOU NEED TO TRY NEXUS!!! My initial motivation for joining Nexus was to learn something new, work-out, and add a little something "different" into my everyday life. I am happy to report I found it! And MUCH more... being a member now for almost 4 months, Nexus has exceeded my expectations! Already I have learned self defense techniques that I will carry with me for the rest of my life! The classes foster a learning environment, one that is supportive and FUN - before I know it, class is over and I have just had an amazing work-out. A new mom within the last 2 years, I can honestly say I am in better shape now than I was pre-pregnancy! (Way better than any gym treadmill and NEVER boring!!!) The instructors are witty and caring and classmates welcoming and encouraging. I have made great friends! I walk away each class with feelings of invigoration and inspiration - each time looking forward to the next class (this never happened to me at a regular gym)! I think Nexus has something truly special to offer... Many thanks to Coach Steve and Matt - you guys are fantastic! ~ Connie A.

Several years ago after having seen the UFC, I was curious to see what all this brazilian jiujitsu was all about... How could a smaller man defeat a larger opponent? I was looking for a martial art that wouldnt require me to do flying back kicks or crazy acrobatics but want to feel like I could protect myself if need be. JiuJitsu gave me the confidence that I was looking for, and I know for a fact that it works if applied appropriately. It is a true self defense art and a whole lot of fun. Its almost like being a little kid when practicing techniques that require you to roll around on the ground. Heck, who cant lie down on the ground? Now all you need to do is learn how to move. Also, its such a good workout. Steve Whittier in my estimation is one of the finest coaches around. Being athletics myself, I can relate to many of Steves instructional techniques that he uses to teach. He brings not only a very high level of skill in his own practice of BJJ but also an intellect that causes a practitioner to improve. Ever since meeting him I was sure that he will go to the top with his students.

A few years ago, I was just looking for a place nearby that had some fitness classes, maybe kickboxing, or something other than every other gym. I came across SBG (it was called Nexus at the time) and started taking some Muay Thai classes. I was blown away. Everyone was so positive and encouraging. No one at SBG will ever make you feel like you dont belong in a class. No matter your skill level or age, you will be welcomed into the tribe! I stuck with it for a few months but had to stop in order to go back to college for my senior year. Everyone was so genuinely invested in my progress, and encouraged me to come back when I graduated. I promised I would be back, and..because of how SBG treated me as one of their own..I came back after graduating. I have been training now for about a year and half and could not be happier with my experience. SBG has become my second home, and theres no better feeling than being a part of the tribe. One Tribe, One Vibe! Give SBG a try, I promise you will not be disappointed.
