Unprofessional and lies. The gym is ok to start off but the experience and staff are terrible. They have a bunch of high schoolers running the place. The so called "Manager" looks like she either is still in high school and/or just graduated. Very unprofessional, rude, and no customer service whatsoever. We were told that we could downgrade from $20 to the $10 membership for no cost or commitment when we signed up. We were unsure if we would use the other services, so they sold us on the fact that there was no cost/commitment if we decided later that we did not want the $20 membership. This is even in the paperwork. So, we went to downgrade to the $10 membership as we were not using the features of the $20 membership, and I was told I either had to sign a 12 month commitment now or pay $15 per month. Look, we are not talking a ton of money here but its about the principles and the fact that we were blatantly being lied to. What a joke. If this place wasnt so cheap, it would surely go out of business as the people running the place are a complete joke. Update: 5/25/2015- Your response is not a good one. Your "policy" when I was signing up was exactly as I described. I specifically asked if I wasnt using the $20 services if I could switch to the $10 membership just as if I was signing initially, no fee and for $10 no contract, and I was specifically told YES. I realize you are trying to save face with your response, but its really not a good one. Bottom line, I was lied to (and so was everyone else probably) when I initially signed up. When I tried to explain this to the little girl at the gym, she could care less and at that time was unprofessional. Now, I will say a couple days later, I was called back and told that they could do the $10 with no contract if I wanted to come back since I was told initially when I signed up I could do that. That was nice they called back, so clearly your "policy" you describe can be broken and further your "POLICY" should be telling the truth and following through on promises made...simple. Since I was called back and offered to come back, I will change my review to 2 stars. Would have gave 3, except for the response you gave below...no good

I would have to agree with the most recent reviews for this Planet Fitness franchise. I have been going to the Howell PF since they opened as it is much closer than the others for me. The staff is generally just interested in scanning your card and getting you away from the front desk. No dress code is enforced, I have seen everything from jeans at the machines, to women wearing sports bras with a t-shirt ripped all the way down the side and yoga pants. Last time I was there (Sunday February 21st) the 12 minute abs and the stretch/ab section were in totally disarray, almost like they were doing maintenance moving machines around, but no one was actually doing anything. I just figured they were doing maintenance in some way, didnt effect my workout so I didnt care to inquire. The girls who work there are generally unpleasant (not all of them, but most), and I have heard some of them talking crap about patrons as they walk away to tan or workout. Very few of the employees seem to know much about the tanning or the machines and how to use them properly. I asked about the tanning once and the guy at the desk essentially looked dumb founded over the question of what length of time I should go for, I guess they expect everyone to know how to fake-n-bake. Overall, if you are interested in PF for what it is, a place with machines and weights to be used at your whim, then keep going to Howell. If you are looking for a staff of knowledgeable people and happy, friendly staff that are interested in making your time at the gym a good one, then you should probably go to Brighton or another PF. If you care at all about the "No Critics" slogan and the "Judgement Free Zone" that Planet Fitness stands for, than you should go to some place other than Howell. I could care less about how the people dress or if the staff is rude personally, I am there to lift weights, use machines and watch people be people. It would be nice if management would enforce the dress code and get staff who genuinely care about the patrons, but I dont seriously expect it to happen.

I would be willing to argue all the negatives people have. I only have seen employees sitting in the nice chairs when its a pt and a client. Its warm to keep you sweating, its a gym go sweat, working out when your body is cold is a bad idea. The people Ive seen in jeans were 75+ years old, they cant be mean to old people or you would complain about that too. Im in there 5 days a week or more, the staff is friendly and they dont interrupt my sets, they keep the gym clean, they dont have a lot of heavy free weights, but the other pf I went to only had up to 60lb dumbbells. For $10 or $20 a month, youre doing a damn good job, go to snap if you dont like it, oh wait, they wanted to charge me $39/month for even LESS equipment and a dirtier gym. Thats a big hell no, pf is just fine, Id want heavier weights, but for $19/mo I can absolutely make due.

I love the place and since its really close to my home, its a huge convenience. I am in there more on the days where the weather is bad/humid. I havent had a problem with the staff. They are a bit on the young side, yes, but Ive always been shown nothing but courtesy and respect if I have a question. I havent had any problems with my contract, I asked at the beginning before I signed up if I were to downgrade the terms what that would entail, and was told if I remember correctly, that I would have to start a new contract (meaning from the day of the switch to the following year) and that was pretty much it. No weirdness or anything. Im on my way out the door to go there now..... so if I wanted to be 100% instead of 90% sure, I would have to dig it up and post the section/etc.

Told them I was in progress to closing my bank account and changed banks. So I wanted my account to be taken out of my new account. I have them the routing number and new account number. No one told me they would still bill the older account first still before changing it in their system. So now my old account went negative and I have to pay the negative amount with a 35 charge bc they failed to let me know. Then when I call and tell them the situation they give me the bullshit excuse that everything is written in the contract and that I failed to acknowledge it. If I could give negative 5 stars at this location I would. Definitely calling coporate and letting them know about this franchises bullshit.

This is a great Gym! I love how big it is so you dont have to wait for a machine or run right next to someone else when you are on the tredmill. Its always decently clean and well kept. The employees do there jobs. The best part is how cheap it is, and there payments come right out of your bank account so you dont have to worry about missing a payment. The only 2 things I can complain about it they throw away anything you leave in the showers instead of sticking it in the lost and found, and there are not allot of mirrors which is very important so people can make sure they have the correct form when working out. I have been going here for almost a year now and I dont plan on leaving anytime soon! :)
