I have seen recently sweet basil is struggling with receiving poor reviews. Mostly on their Facebook page, but also online as well.. they are dealing with these reviews in such a tasteless and unprofessional manner, that after 5 years of marriage I decided that I too would tell my own wedding story. Marquette is my home. I lived there for 25 years, was born into this strong, stellar community, that I absolutely adore. When I had the opportunity to plan my own wedding in Mqt I was over the moon.. I was having a difficult time finding a caterer, because unfortunately Marquette doesnt have a ton to choose from and I wanted something new and exciting. I met with Casey and Shelly, and although I wasnt overcome with excitement on their options, they were willing to let me customize some, and when planning a wedding from across the country, you take what you can get.. After a few weeks of communication I stopped hearing from them- after 5 weeks I made my poor mother, who was working full time and taking care of her terminally Ill father drive down there and ask "what the heck is going on" they said they ran into some employment issues and had been short staffed and would get back to me as soon as they could... two months later after calling and leaving multiple messages and emails I made an appt to confirm meal options (because they refused to do a tasting).. I came back into town for a long weekend and to meet with all my wedding vendors- my first appointment (Ill refrain from specifying who it was with) stopped me in my tracks and told me, cancel sweet basil immediately!!!! They continued with "I have been working with brides for 15 years and have never heard such disappoint" My vendor- at my meeting made me call them to see if I could get my money back and since I couldnt we changed things around so I was only using them for what our deposit would cover.....(they ended up charging us almost $200 ((on top of what I already had paid)) for spoons and a table cloth when the girl who was supposed to stay through the end left without taking the 5 things we got from them((over $1000 for a few apps and "lost supply")) Ill stop while Im ahead but two of my best friends got married that same summer- one used sweet basil and was in tears after her wedding. Staff was rude. Drinking during the reception. Food was bland. (My father asked for beans in the buffet line and they put FOUR on his plate, he joked and said "throw me a few more for my troubles will ya" and she said we cant, we need to portion........) I guess my point being, when wedding vendors who have worked along side sweet basil for years are telling brides to make your own food before going with them.. you know its bad. I ended up with the most amazing caterer and I really owe it to that vendor because since then Ive had friends, and friends of friends who have used sweet basil the last 5 years, and have been disappointed beyond belief! Good luck brides, its difficult to find catering but dont settle! Also, 99% of the reviews on Facebook and online are shellys friends, family and her daughters friends- who coincidentally are the kids who were always drinking while working....

My wife and I used them for our wedding and we ran out of food because the servers werent portioning the buffet style dinner. We were suppose to get any left overs after the reception. But because they ran out of food we didnt get any of that. They also didnt provide ice for our bartenders that we paid for. We also service ice cream for our wedding and the servers kept opening up different cartons before they emptied them, wasting a lot of ice cream. They left all their linens for us to clean up and drop off at their location as well. They did reimburse us some money back, but not enough in the opinion of many. Very nice management team. But overall not the best experience for our reception.

The last time I had been there was when it was half of an Italian type grocery store and the other half had a counter where you could order food. I went there a few months ago for the first time since the renovation and I have to say it was very very good. The only pet peeve of mine is that in the potato salad that I had, I kept getting huge chunks of onion. I think with a little more attention to detail, this place would be the best restaurant to go to for lunch. Very good.

What an awesome place to grab lunch! The food was excellent. Awesome sandwiches, lots of delicious veterinarian options. Delicious soups and fresh side dishes. My wife and I stopped in after finding out that sweet water was closed on Mondays and we couldnt have been more pleased. We took our food to go and ate at a park down the street with our kids. This place should be a Marquette staple if youre into good non-chain food made with quality ingredients.

Not only is their restaurant serve great food, but their catering was was just wonderful. All of their food was superb, our guests loved (and ate) all of it, and the staff was so kind and eager to help. Casey made planning the food portion of the wedding a breeze. She answered all of my questions and took care of any concerns I had about the wedding. Her knowledge and experience in catering for weddings made it a hassle-free event. Thank you!

We recently used them for our wedding. The food was ok (nothing spectacular) but they were telling other guest how they didnt want to be working and the manager was rude to our family and guest. The left over food was discarded or whatever they did with it without asking us if we wanted it. The lack of professionalism by the manager and staff caused a lot of unnecessary stress on the wedding party. Would not recommend for any further events.
