Blue Plate gets no stars! They catered our daughters wedding at The Field Museum. We definitely made the WRONG choice in hiring them. One of the 2 bars in the main hall didnt open until I (mother of the bride) noticed it wasnt stocked with liquor nor was there a bar tender there at a critical time when guests were flocking into the main hall to sit down to dinner/listen to toasts and were looking for a drink. The one other other bar had stacks of people waiting in a long line for a drink! Staff was scurrying around not knowing what to do. My guess is they were all rental staff and not trained. Also, we paid for open bar until midnight and unbeknownst to us, they closed the bars at 11:30pm! Do you need to hear more...ok...we paid for extra servers for butler passed sides for our elegant sit down dinner (so we thought) and it did not happen. Sides were unceremoniously plopped on the table in dishes that were too hot to pass. Truffle polenta fries (sound great...right?) were cold and tasteless. Blue Plate acknowledged their errors and gave us a partial refund but it wasnt enough. We dont get a "redo" on our daughters wedding. Do NOT hire Blue Plate!

If youre looking for a caterer I HIGHLY recommend Blue Plate - especially if you can work with Rachel! Rachel was an absolute delight to work with. From our initial meeting/tasting to her saying goodbye the evening of the wedding - she made the process so easy - and I am picky! Not only was the food fabulous, but we were able to provide our own liquor - which was a huge plus. Our ceremony was in the same space as our reception so the Blue Plate staff had to do a full flip (with barely anything preset since it was such a small space) in under an hour - and they delivered! Truly, every aspect of Blue Plates service was top notch. I cant tell you how many emails I wrote Rachel - all of the special touches I wanted incorporated, she made happen. Dont hesitate - book a tasting with Blue Plate and youll be convinced - and be sure to ask for Rachel!!

I recently attended a workshop for work and was really over-the-top surprised at how good this was! So professional and high end, usually workshops are catered with crappy box sandwiches or something but everything was delicious! One lunch was salmon with roasted veggie skewers and some arborio rice, sweet potatoe, salad, etc. Desert was little pumpkin pie things. Seasonal and YUMM like I specifically came online to say how great this stuff is. If youre in Chicago and need to cater, consider this but I dont know that their price points are probably high...but youd be getting quality food and presentation!

What an amazing job David and the folks at Blue Plate did for us at our wedding!!!! The quality of the food was excellent and the presentation amazing. We have literally gotten dozens of compliments saying it was the best catering people have ever had. The sushi and appetizers to the main course - not a single thing was even mediocre. I highly recommend and know David will see additional business from our guests and from us in the future. Bravo!

Food often falls completely flat. Staff, especially management, is not equipped for the hospitality business (rude and incompetent). They deserve 0 stars!
