I have been going to Fantastic Sams for years. I have always loved John and how they have done my hair. I recently went in with my mother on my 19th birthday and asked for a trim and highlights. I was going to have one of the girls do my highlights, but she said she had to leave in a few minutes, so a blonde lady (I did not catch her name) said she would do my hair. She had done it before so I figured, "Why not?" and sat in the chair. When I told her I wanted some slight highlights, she began picking up my hair and looking at it. She proceeded to tell me that my hair was too dead and she couldnt do the highlights, or my hair would "crumble in her hands". I have home dyed my hair several times, and yes my hair is a bit damaged. I am fully aware of this. But I take good care of my hair, I dont blow-dry it, straighten it, and it had been about 4+ months since I dyed my hair. I told her nevermind the highlights, since she kept telling me how awful my hair was. She obviously could tell I was aggravated. So she started cutting my hair, and kept telling me how dead it was and giving me unwanted tips about the next time I dyed it. I was so pissed off, I kept saying "I know, I know" to get her to shut up! Finally she stopped and looked at me and said with a smug smile, "So you know everything?" Wow. I could not believe it. Since I have worked in customer service, I was trying to be as nice as I possibly could. I simply said, "I just hear it a lot when I get my hair done." She looked at me and said, "then maybe you should listen." I finished my haircut without another word, paid and walked out. Later that day, I went to Borics (by kroeger on Walton & Livernois) and told the hairdresser what happened. She did my highlights and fixed my VERY uneven haircut. She even showed me all the layers that were not blended by the blonde lady at Fantastic Sams. The funny thing is, I remember the last time the blonde lady did my hair, I felt awful after that haircut too! Sad to say, that is the absolute last time I will be going there. I went there to feel beautiful on my birthday, and instead I felt awful and was put down throughout my entire haircut. Not to mention, they completely skipped over my mom and ignored her, although I never figured out why. Awful customer service and an awful haircut. Fantastic Sams, you have lost 2 loyal customers.

Dont go here. I decided to go in to get my hair cut from just-past-shoulder-length to an almost-pixie. Ive had the cut before and wanted to do it again for summer. The lady tried to politely tell me I was too fat for the cut to look good. Then instead of cutting it like the picture I brought in, she cut it too choppy and tried to hide it by teased the f*** out of my hair and putting a gallon of hairspray in it. She didnt listen to anything I said and carried herself with an air of "I know your hair better than you do because Im a hairstylist." I mean, I respect the opinions of people that cut hair for a living, but Ive also lived with my hair for 28 years now. Get over yourself lady.

The first time i went there she did a great job cutting but it was uneven, so i went back had to wait 1 1/2 hrs and she straighten the cut but had the nerve to charge me again for a second haircut. Now 4 months later i went in for another haircut w/same lady - told her my daughter was getting married and as it turned out she just haked the hell out of my hair. I will be calling them and maybe the manager will fix this horrible mess........

Went in for the first time, never going back. Worst haircut Ive ever had, seriously! The lady who cut my hair needs to go back to school for more training, sorry. Very ugly layers and bangs. Took chunks off than what I wanted and asked for. Blow dry just the front and left the back part wet. Horrible experience by far. I cant wait to grow out my hair. If you want a good experience with your hair I DO NOT recommend this place. Good luck!

Despite the negative reviews, I have almost always had a good experience here! Ive been coming here since I was a kid. John knows me and my hair cut. Hes always quick with a pair of scissors and good with conversation! The ladies who accompany him are also very friendly! I have only had one bad experience with a newer employee, but again that was one time; Ive woken up with worse hair styles! Plus, theres suckers for the kids!

Price is significantly cheaper than going to a stand alone high end salon. I had my hi lights and color done recently and the results were great. As for the comment about the blow dry... How would you expect a free blow dry when the haircut is 14????
