Despite having read all of the negative comments here, I went into this store to have a key made. Their location was close to me, and I didnt feel like driving to another locksmith during afternoon traffic. I regret that decision. After waiting several minutes to be helped, (the guys were behind the counter talking to each other and completely ignoring me), I was finally able to explain how they could help me: I needed a 7 pin tubular key made (those are the small round tube-like keys that you may often seen on filing cabinets, or in my case, goes to a small fire-resistant safe for documents.) I had lost the keys to that safe some time ago and rather than pay a locksmith to open it for me, I purchased a tool made specifically to open these types of locks (the same tool the locksmith would have used) for $20 on Amazon, and saved myself the cost of the locksmith visiting my house. Well, I decided I should finally get around to have an actual key made again, so that brings this story back around to American Locksmiths. "Ponytail" refused to make a key for me off of the tool that I had been using. OK, thats his right to refuse the work. He said that it would be unethical. LOL, OK, I guess I can understand how some people may attempt to use this tool in nefarious deeds. The thing that insulted me was "Ponytails" attitude towards me. There was plenty of opportunity for him to politely and professionally decline to perform the service, but instead he was just rude, contemptuous, and spoke to me as if he had just caught me trying to break in to his mothers sock drawer. I should have just saved myself the trouble and listened to the reviews. TLDR: If you want kind, polite, professional service; GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

Rip off artists charged me $48 for the half hour it took the slow moving and thinking locksmith to write up the invoice - AFTER FINISHING THE INSTALLATION WORK and another $48 for him to describe the locks he had for me before he started working. Eight trips back and forth to the truck and I think I paid for his lunch hour, too. 90 minutes total ACTUAL labor - if that- yet somehow I paid for 180. When I called the manager to complain about this injustice he told me to pound sand. BEWARE. BEWARE. Theyll lecture you about how theyve been in business for 40 years. Yeah, well, Enron was in business for forty years, too. NEVER EVER use these guys if you care about getting value for your hard earned dollar. They are out to pad your bill and scam you blind. Just another rip off service business in a rip off world. Everybody wants you to pay for the owners vacation cruises. Take a pass on these guys. Youll be glad you did. Do it yourself and send the bill to American Locksmith.

Got a new key that seemed okay, I didnt even mind the long boring speech from some creepy guy who seemed to "know" everything about keys. What I did mind was how the key I got didnt work and when I tried to get it replaced the guy with long hair said that there was no way he would ever have made that key even though hes the only one who sells that type. I should have gone to a real professional and not wasted my time and money on someone who clearly doesnt know what hes doing! Take my advice and just goto home depot or the car dealership if you want actuall customer service instead of a know it all who says he never makes mistakes.

Second time Ive been to their store. I have nothing but respect for these guys. They know their business. I travel from Florissant to get a lock and key for a historic home with original skeleton keys that I could not get anyone in my area to reproduce. He also gave me installation hints that I would not have known. I returned several weeks later to have another lock repaired and my electronic car door opener repaired, not only did get great service, I was not charged after he worked at least a half an hour on both my locks and key fob. Excellent service and respectful attitude. I will never go anywhere else.

Bruce is an idiot . Needs to retire to play with his dog and talk with costumers that are friends more . Almost an hour wait and keyed same lock the same key didnt rekey it to a new key like I asked and had to do it over again because he was talking with friends plus answering phone calls . In addition helping other customers while I was waiting for a ten minute repair. Some other staff member working their just sat at his desk or playing with dog. I will never use this company again . Its a shame you cant find good service now days . I oversee 500+ units your loss American locksmith

Janes Stone, they wont charge you more, they will charge you the same price as if you bought it from them. They of course, still have to cover the price of programing equipment and software updates for that equipment. What other line of business can you buy something online and then expect somebody else to make it work for you? Btw, Bluetooth came out in the nineties. The state of the art Plantronics headsets are available on line. And even you(probably ) wont need someone else to make them work for you.

Discovered this place on referral. Old-time locksmith store with a sitdown counter. Found that the owner Bruce had lots of knowledge that he was willing to share about my problem. He got me my new parts for my antique door . More useful was the advice that came with it which was not available online. one review below said thathe wanted $10 a key to copy.Someone right before me brought in a key that he wanted three copies of. They were two dollars apiece.

These locksmiths would not give an ETA for service so I called Pop-A-Lock instead. They arrived in no time and completed the job. As they were writing the receipt, a fat guy with gray hair from American Locksmith arrived and fought tooth and nail over being payed the $65 service call even though they never gave an ETA. I paid him his stupid service call and then cancelled the payment via Amex. Dont use this locksmith.

Ive been in twice to this establishment and both times the customer service STUNK. I would not waste my time or money here again. Im not sure who owns this business but if I treated my customers with the lack of care, attention and professionalism that these bozos do I would not have any customers. Go to a REAL Locksmith that is going to treat you like a customer not an intruder.

Horrible service. Every time Ive gone in they take a long time to get to me despite having no one else in the store. Usually on the phone or talking to each other. Called today to get lockout service at 3:30. Said they dont have anyone available theyre wrapping up their day. They close at 6:00.
