So this review is specific to a mens hair cut and highlight. I called up to make an appointment since the salon is less than a mile away from home and I was short on time. I told the girl on the phone what I was looking for, a mens hair cut and highlight, and she asked if I did the cap, which I laughed at because what kind of professional stylist uses a cap!?!? So I told her no, I do foils only, which I could then sense the apprehension. She said no problem see you soon. Heres where it gets good, I sit down and tell the girl specifically what I wanted done and I could see the deer in the headlights look on her face. She basically in a not direct way told me that she has a better plan, so I went with it. She literally put the hi lights in my hair with her fingers. She processed it and nothing, no change in color whatsoever and mind you Im already blond. So she redid her work, and while she was doing it compared putting hilights in my hair to finger painting in 5th grade. Her cutting technique was Great Clips AT BEST, texture looked awful and once the color was done it looked even worse. Highlights didnt even span the entire length of my hair and the color is nothing like I told her. My suggestion for management and ownership is to raise your standard for stylists. It should not be difficult to do foils on a mens hair. Hire professionals not these young girls who have no drive to be a great stylist. You basically have paycheck collectors who can kind of cut hair but should be workimg at Great Clips. I have to laugh at this experience because I thought saving myself a drive to my normal spot in Frontenac would also save me money. Getting my hair redone this week and will not be going back there, so in the end I wasted $60 and an hour and a half of my day.

I was happy with the service I got a couple years ago but when I emailed to inquire about it again a couple days ago I received a voicemail on my phone from the receptionist who was rather rude. She said the service was no longer offered and hadnt been for a few years and then said if I wanted another service or "whatever" to call back. The tone she had the voicemail was rude and very condescending, it was like she was telling me I dont care want you want go someplace else. If you dont want people to email about appointments then dont offer the service and I would suggest that you speak to whoever is returning messages to have a much politer and friendlier voice on the phone. Friendliness and comfort are what make me want to go to spa. Like I said it has been a couple years since I have been to this salon but nothing about that voicemail that was left to me would make me want to go back and have to face the woman that left me that message. Response to owners defense: As the owner you should be concerned not defensive. I didnt say your receptionist was a bad person but maybe she was having a bad day. It can be hard to interrupt emails or texts but not phone calls or voicemails. Instead of looking into it and just saying you can assure people that going forward they wont get crappy voicemails, you defended it...that amazes me. Its fine if she was just having a bad day and I was never upset that you no longer offered the service I was upset because the kindness I received two years ago was no longer there. If it is still a priority then you should talk to your staff not defend their behavior. I am very disappointed. If asked about this spa by others I will be giving the same review.

I was referred to Black Orchid Salon & Spa and I am so glad I booked an appointment! When booking they asked me to tell them a little about what I was wanting and I was booked with Chelsea. Chelsea did a full foil - dark brown base/caramel highlights and bob hairstyle cut! She exceeded my expectations! I have to been several places and they NEVER quite get what I am asking for BUT Chelsea nailed it!!! She took the time to listen and show me options - plus she is incredibly skilled/talented! On top of perfection with the hairstyle & cut, the salon is very nice - full service; facials, massages, nails, etc and the staff is great! I highly recommend Black Orchid Salon & Spa to anyone! You wont regret it!

I came to Black Orchid for my first hair cut in a while and all I can say is, "WOW". Everything about my experience was great from start to finish. I was greeted at the door by Linda who was very pleasant. My stylist Chelsea was ready for my appointment by the time I walked in the door. She took the poor description I gave her and produced exactly what I was picturing! Also, on my way out the door I was thanked for my business from Nancee who I believe was the owner of the Black Orchid. It was really nice to see someone take pride in their business and be on the front line of greeting their customers. Overall, this was a great experience with great people and I would highly recommend them.

This salon is first rate. I had a facial given to me by Cassie and was best ever. It was my first visit to Black Orchid and after seeing all of the other services including Hair, Massage, etc., I will definitely be back. Its a little tricky to find...but, once you are there, you will be happy you found it! John

Amanda IS amazing! She did a slightly unique form of an ombre color on my hair and it turned out amazingly perfect. She did a thorough consultation with everything we discussed and I ended up also with some makeup and styling products which I love. I cant wait to head back for more services!
