If youre like me..you probably searching to find local gyms in the Union area. Stay away from this one. It is overpriced for starters. Over the phone they dont want to give you price. Theyll drag you down there and sell you the pitch. Its about 72$ a month and we negotiated to 56$, but thats leaving over 100$ new member fee. Weird isnt it? With the so called new member fee, they still win. The gym itself is ok. What they really got going for them is the new paint job and the lighting. If you take those away, theyll be any ordinary gym. The equipment is already lacking maintenance. The womens locker area reeks of mildew and you can find molded spores around the edges. A cardio treadmill I was using in elevated mode abrubtly stopped and dropped at full force, causing my face to hit the front dash. I complained to staff and immediately said I wasnt using the machine properly. Ive been using treadmills for years and the obscure accusation of I did something wrong is ridiculuous. The spinning machine. Looks great and fancy, however everything is controlled by electronics. The whole LCD screen was frozen, unplugging and replugging to startup did absolutely nothing and just froze. Yes, only one spin machine in there. You are promised a training session for weights, something I havent done in a while, and found no one was ever around. Addressing a few issues with a staff member, it seems like he didnt take great pride in his job. Turns out hes a Convicted sexual offender. Being a female, this was the last draw for me. I quit my membership with these matters placed with management. Only to find I was being sued for membership fees. Breach of contract when they did not depict what they advertised, won in my favor. A friend of mine who worksout there, recently quit. When she found the staff member lurking in the ladies room under the pretention he was looking for lost keys...in the shower? Rigghhht.

I left my other gym in Cranford because I could not take the crowds, broken machines, and just not reaching by goals. I came to Strength and Fitness Club because I heard good things about it but I was reluctant to go because I hate the hard sell tactics that most gyms do. Strength and Fitness was not like this at all. I did not expect to sign up that day but after taking a no hassle tour and how helpfully the sales person was, I signed up on the spot. Thus far I can tell you it was a great decision. Everyone is so helpfully from the staff to the members at the club. You feel like you are part of a family. Another aspect of the club I really like, are the classes. I was never a class person because I thought they were just for women. Boy was I wrong, the sales person convinced me to try one and I really enjoyed it. It was very challenging and it was so much better than doing cardio. The instructors are great especially if you are new to the class. I also like that the classes are not overcrowded so the instructor is able to give you more attention. I did look at other gyms before coming here and all of them did not measure up. The gym I came from was $39.99 a month if you included classes, which is the same price I am paying at Strength and Fitness and it is a much better facility. I looked at the $20 gyms but they were overcrowded and the clientel there was not what I wanted to be around. I have been here for only 3 months and I have already lost more weight than I did at my previous club and I was there for over a year. Great gym, I recommend it to everyone.

Nice look to gym and not crowded but soon youll find out why. Trainer on site is a joke - good luck with that. Electronic machines dont have their electronics functioning, they work but dont count on using any of the onboard progress/monitoring utilities. Most tasteless is the aura of greed here. Had to go through a systematic sales routine with rates disguised. They wanted nearly 75$ monthly but after expressing disinterest they dropped down to $50. Instinct flags went up, but reluctantly signed up. They billed ahead of time to my debit card and on two ocassions double billed me, costing me an overdraft fee. I brought this to their attention and after being shuffled around they apologized and wanted to give me credit for next month. Cannot help to think things are rough financially there and they are extracting money ahead of times. Requested new debit card and not going back. Im better off investing in some home gym. Namaste!

Terrible place. EXPENSIVE..I signed up a bit back under their $70+ monthly plan which seemed pricey. These days in the local area there are gyms offering $19.99 monthly no commitment plans and they have since now PUBLICLY offer the same rates (but with hidden $200 surcharge, if you do NOT choose a contract. shady). They have a gimmick with the automated credit card processing for fees. Periodically, it would charge me multiple times, about 2-3 weeks apart and you would not think twice of it unless you scrutinize the charges. In other words, I would be paying $140 monthly at times. I had to go through lengthy processes to fix this and was asked to provide proof...ME, provide proof of their wrongdoing! After showing the multiple charges they would ONLY give me credit for future months instead of returning my money. With their gym equipment becoming faulty, I canceled my card, canceled them, and exited their gym - permanently.

Excellent place. I have worked out in many gyms in this area and never have I had such a great experience like I have had at SnF. From the minute you walk in the door you are greeted by a smiling staff that know your name. The equipment on site is always functioning, well maintained and clean. If you are a person who likes to take classes then I recommend to try every one of them because each trainer is different and they all challenge you. They have Kickboxing, Total Body, Circuit and Insanity to name a few! If you knew me you would know that I am not the "gym going person" who runs around saying that he loves to exercise but I can tell you SnF really make you feel like part of their family and make the exercise part a little less painful! :-)

This place is so much better than some dirty franchise gym. I’ve been a member here for about 5 years now and I don’t anticipate leaving anytime soon. This place is clean, the equipment is obviously of higher quality, it’s not crowded with meat heads, and the staff is very friendly and helpful without being pushy. If you want to pay $20 a month at a crowded/dirty gym, prepare to get what you pay for. I’m happy paying a little more for quality. The negative comments below sound like they are mistakenly describing another gym or they are just upset that they didnt get something for free and decided to lie in a review. Bottom line: This place is awesome and I plan to work out here at least another 5 years.

Upscale family oriented club. The staff is very helpful from the front desk all the way to the owner. They preach family and fully back it up. I shopped around all the clubs in the area and this is the only one that did not hard sell me or pressure me into signing up that day. For $40 a month this club is a bargain. It is very clean and the equipment is top of the line and you do not have to wait for anything. The daycare services are great along with all their group exercise classes. It is nice to see there is still an honest gym out there. I would recommend this club to any and everyone.
