I spent a good amount of time researching the haircut I wanted, ouidad. Utopia salon was one of the salons that came up as certified in the technique so I gave them a call, after a bit of confusion about which stylist in the salon was actually certified I made my appointment with the owner. I was so excited I told all my friends and family about the cut, I could not wait! When I arrived the salon the receptionist was nice and told me that she would notify my stylist(the owner) that I was here but she also mentioned I was in the book for a diva curl haircut, so i explained to her that I wanted an ouidad haircut. The receptionist said that it basically did not matter because I would talk to my stylist about it. After waiting 30+ minutes I was rushed over for something I assume was a consultation. Pathetic. My stylist of corse assumed that I wanted the diva curl and did not give me a moment to tell her what I would actually like. I was rushed over to get my hair washed, and I noticed my stylist starting a haircut on another client. As my hair was being ripped out by the person "conditioning" my ends I see my stylist continue to work on another client. At this point it is 40+ minutes passed the time of my appointment. After my "relaxing" experience at the shampoo bowl I am put under a bleached encrusted dryer, where I can see my stylist start to blow-dry the other clients hair. After about 15 minutes I decided I have had enough and pick up my bag from my stylist station where I see she is now curling the other clients hair. Unbelievable. I went in the bathroom, notices it was now a full hour and fifteen minutes after my appointment, take the clips out of my hair and the cap off, and walk out. I was rushed around, ignored and disappointed.

I have been going here for a year, I liked the space and enjoyed my haircut overall. UNFORUTNATELY, I had been going for a particular cut that involves training and certification for curly hair cuts. I specifically asked my very first appointment for someone who was Deva Certified... I was told to come in the next day to work with a stylist, and had been with her for a year, calling each time to make my appointment and paying the price of the special cut each time (with substantial tip). Upon calling last month I was told that this stylist wasnt certified in that cut, I WAS SHOCKED. I thought maybe I got her name wrong, had them check their system and she had been doing and putting in the cut, though she was not certified in the technique!!! For me, its about the deceit. Many stylists travel to NYC for the training, put in the hours and master the cut, and that was what I wanted and paid for, not someone who watched another stylist in house and cut as she remembered. I even checked the Devacurl website, and brought up earlier with the stylist that her name wasnt on there, and she assured me it was being updated. Its unfair to other stylists who put in the time and money to get the training to have someone else go around and get the money and clients without actually putting in the time. I left a message with the front desk for the owner to correct this issue and was never contacted about it, which has lead to this review. I have since gone to another salon and had a true Devacut experience, and it is very different and much more thorough than anything I ever had at Utopia. Many more steps with a lot more care and precision. Very unfortunate, since this salon is clean, modern, and parking is great.

I purchased a groupon for a mani shallac and pedi with hot stones. I had an appointment for 4:30pm, decided to arrive a little early only to be told that the appointment before me came late. I didnt mind waiting but no one told me the wait would be an extra hour. Since they knew that I was waiting so long, I was taken immidiatly after the other person finished. My nails where lovely and I was happy with the result. After leaving, the sides of my heals started to itch. The next day it was so bad that I practically scratched my heals till they started to bleed. I called the salon and explained that I had a foot rash from their service. They told me that they use only natural products. I told them that I am not allergic to anything but that I was taken right after the last customer and that I can only assume that their foot brush was not sanatized and it wasnt ! The lady offered a credit and apologized. I called back to make an appointment a month later just for my nails and was told that there was no credit. I did not post a negative rating before because I thought that they would honor their offer and now the credit disappeared? I had to go to a foot doctor and told that I contracted athletes foot, spent money on medication and had to deal with pain because of these people. Its just wrong and not the way to do business. Dont waste your time or money. Karma will come around!

My curls needed a change so I decided to give Utopia Salon a try since all I hear is great things about this salon. I first started with bringing my four year old daughter for a deva cut and Lori did an excellent job with her cut! Everyone was so pleasant and welcoming. Nubia the owner was the sweetest thing ever. I made an appointment to get my cut with Nubia a week or two after. Best decision I made. My hair was lacking volume very weighed down but Nubia brought my curls back to life. My hair is fuller and has more volume on top! She was very informative and also asked what was I looking for in my hair. Which I think is very important. I cant wait to go back for my next cut. Thanks to Maria for doing a great job with my color it came out great! No more faded red and nice caramel color using the pintura technique. Thank you Nubia for being such a sweet and caring woman and putting your clients needs and wants first! See you in four months.

My experience at Utopia Salon & Day Spa Center was incredible! The staff were very welcoming, and my hair turned out beautiful! The best part of it was Nubia! Nubia is the salon owner as well as the master curl stylist. She performed a Deva Cut on me. When I tell you she can do magic, she is a master magician with curly hair! She is not only there to cut and style hair, she also educates people, along the way, about how to take care of it. I really appreciated the added element of education. Shes passionate about curls! I live in Delaware, two hours away from the salon. Without a doubt, I will be back! Its worth the drive when Im taken care of so well. Ill be sure to recommend Utopia Salon to anyone who needs a good stylist. I was not asked to review the salon. These are my honest thoughts, and I rarely write reviews. All I want is to share a good experience so others can too! Thanks!
