The childrens salsa dance instructor, Nicole Nuñez thoroughly traumatized my 5 year old daughter after she asked the older students to "give feedback" on her dancing on her FIRST day of class. She lined the little ones up to do a quick routine while the older students looked on. When it was over (and my FIVE year old was NERVOUS and shy as it was) the older students began telling the little ones what they did WRONG. The instructor added insult to injury when she asked my little one to repeat her name and told her that she should "TAKE NOTES so that his feedback could help her next time"!!! At that point, I barged into the room and grabbed my daughter out of the studio room. The "instructor" looked completely baffled. WHAT?!! What kind of person tries to tear down a FIVE YEAR OLD after her FIRST class? My daughter was hysterical. She said, "Those girls didnt like the way I dance! It was only my first day." After further investigation on their website, I discover that ALL the teachers are VOLUNTEERS. So, they are letting UNTRAINED teachers handle the instruction (and social-emotional well-being) of little ones? AND taking money for it? Really?? Lesson learned: NEVER expose your most precious person to a class or experience without observing and doing thorough research. I still cant believe I made such a HUGE mistake.

Do not go to this dance studio, I went here with my court to practice for my Sweet 16. The choreographers were extremely unprofessional, not to mention they were switched three times. This was undoubtedly inconvenient as the party was a month before. The first one did not show up to practices twice and then bailed, the second one taught us nonsense yet we still had to pay her, and the third one was the worst of all. She was the most unprofessional, I caught her talking about me twice during rehearsals and then she had the nerve to come to my house on the day of the party without notice or permission. We had to kick her out, she says shes 24 but acted in an immature manner. Isaac- you told me that there wouldnt be a dancer at your studio that I wouldnt like, but I ended up disliking them all. If it had been up to me I would have left without giving this company a single cent but my mom is not like that and she paid what neither you, your dancers, or this company deserved. I have nothing good to say, next time please dont bring someone you dont know from a studio in Brooklyn. Its going to be such a pain to cut her out of all the video footage of the party. So thanks, Sol Dance Center, for all the problems your dancers and company caused my family and friends in one of the most important events of my life.

No happy. My son started classes and soon he was asked if he would be part of a show, a presentation by the school, which at that point he was not sure. In the middle of the regular salsa lesson (not a rehearsal) he left the class because the instructor (Nicole) had "cornered" him to answer if he wanted or not participate. For the show, the parents had to sell tickets $25 each not sure how many. This seems a personal bad experience, but aside of it, I think the school misses the point, the fun part of learning dancing and gets deviated by perhaps economic goals. By the way, this month I was also charged by a monthly fee for a class that we ended last month, I tried reaching them without getting my money back yet.

Ive taken some of the adult classes, and all of the teachers and staff have been friendly and patient. I am a super beginner, so it was really important to me that the teachers and environment were welcoming and not extremely judgmental, (Ive visited one studio where the owner/teacher called students fat, (the girls she was talking about were by no means overweight at ALL) and she cursed out the students! They probably arent in business anymore.) Sol Dance Center is not like that in the slightest, the teachers really work with you and they are able to adjust the level of difficulty to best accommodate the students needs to grow. I totally recommend Sol Dance Center to anyone who is considering trying them out!

I attended the Wednesday night open level bellydance class. I have taught and danced myself. I very much enjoyed the class. The instructor used many kinds of music that were not middle eastern from pop to electronica. She used isolations and basic bellydance moves to create short choreographies to this music which worked as drills. The class was a wonderful way for me to work on my rusty technique. If you are looking for a more folkloric class this is not the one for you. But if you are looking for a fun low impact workout with a great group of happy sisterly women exercising- this class is great!

Sol Dance Studio is a fantastic studio for every level of student. Right in the heart of Astoria, it is easy to get to, and once youre there the atmosphere lends itself to learn how to make the right moves on the dance floor. You wont just learn the proper steps. You will learn how to incorporate those moves in real dance situations. The instructors are friendly and patient. If you are looking for just the right school, you owe it to yourself to give Sol Dance a try.

This place is completely awesome. I am a terrible dancer and wanted to try ballet, so my husband bought me a gift card for a private, one-hour session. My instructor, Carla, was absolutely wonderful -- she taught me a lot of basics in an exceptionally friendly, fun, and encouraging way. My only complaint is that there arent currently any adult-level beginner ballet classes at Sol! Ill try to go again for a private session once Ive had some more practice.

Ive been coming here for a couple of months and every time I leave I cant wait until next week when I get to go back. This is such a positive and fun environment that anyone who genuinely wants to learn how to dance will love and truly enjoy. The instructors are all very humble and very friendly that it truly is an incredibly welcoming environment for all that pass through.

Great dance instructors, and a warm staff. my daughter comes here for ballet classes and she absolutely loves it. The only downside to this is I wish there were more available morning classes. Otherwise a nice friendly environment with professional instructors.
