I cant praise the guys at this place enough. I went on New Years Eve so it was incredibly busy. I put my name down on the waiting list, came back after an hour, and still had to wait for an hour. But the guys there, especially Serge, the owner, went ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty in providing for the customers. Besides his friendly and entertaining chit-chat Serge ordered in a couple of pizzas, provided wine, and kept pouring toasts to the New Year. While this (obviously!) cant be expected on a regular visit, I am sure that he is just as stellar a host as he was when I went, and he obviously had a very good rapport with the locals. He made me feel like a local on my first trip. I actually wish I lived in Brooklyn just so I could keep coming back here. And as for the haircut: top-notch! Have to say its the best Ive had. And at $16, not bad value. At first I wasnt quite happy with the length at the back - not a problem, he adjusted it (exactly how I wanted it). Despite the long line of customers, Serge wanted to make sure I left with the haircut I was after. Nothing was too much trouble. As I said at the beginning, I cant praise these guys enough.

Okay I like to go to a barber shop for a groom, professional look. These people dont have talent. They will cut your hair like everyone else clipper here and there and scissors here and there to appear your hair was cut when they didnt cut anything. The guy I cut with was an older man. Now I know how my haircut and what a barber must do to cut it. The guy didnt have a clue what i said and started to cut anyway. I came out with more hair on one side than the other, The barbers here do not know what blending means. I came out disappointing and the guy had to do my hair many times and still didnt do it my way still he charged me $15. I gave the shop a 2 star because they young guy shook my hand. He is courtesy and friendly, but I am not looking for a smile and friendly service. I am looking for at least a decent haircut, this place fails to do so.

I finally found a place Ill be going back to--great haircut, service, atmosphere, and value. It was my first time here after trying a few other barber shops in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, and I immediately felt like one of the regulars. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and it feels like an old-time barbershop. Alice, who cut my hair, paid very close attention to detail, and I came out with one of the best cuts Ive ever received. It was like she had been cutting my hair for a long time--she perfectly finished every aspect. As for the value: $15/haircut. Cant beat it. Ill be back in a few weeks.

I was very skeptical about going here at first. I recently moved to NYC and I had been getting my hair cut by the same guy for the past 10 years. Clinton Street Barber Shop rocks. The staff is friendly, Serge is extremely friend and puts you at ease. Ive gotten my hair cut by Ray and Anastasia, both did excellent job and actually cared about how it turned out. Even if I have to wait for either one of them, Im willing to because they both do an excellent job. After Im done, I dont even mind the 70+ minute train ride back to my home in Queens. The level of service one receives is worth the trip.

This shop is awesom! But gets really busy. I only go to Serge. After one of the other barbers gave me a "so-so" cut, Serge asked how I felt about it and sensing my dissatisfaction asked me to wait for him to finish the man he was working on. He fixed it, and has perfected his concurrant cuts to my liking. I recieve many complements on my hair. All employees are welcoming and seem to be very competent, and I have not seen the guy who messed up my do the first time. Apprehensive about writing a review because better ratings bring more customers, but Clinton Street Barber Shop deserves praise.

I just moved to the area a few months ago, and Ive been keeping my eyes peeled for a simple enough looking barber shop, but all I was seeing was "salons" or"hair studios" which are fine, just not for me. Luckily, I found this place on Google Maps, and just walking up to the place I was instantly reminded of the homely kind of barber shop I grew up with in my town. I was very impressed with the service, the haircut was great, and the people there seem full of character and good conversation, and I had no hesitations about giving a good tip. Ill certainly be going there from now on!!

I have to agree that the two people who gave this place 1 star on 4/9/09 and 5/6/09 are most likely full of B.S. Ive only been here once, but what those two "reviewers" supposedly experienced is so far from what I experienced its impossible for me to believe they actually did either. This shop is perfectly pleasant, my barber was perfectly agreeable, he did a fine job on my hair, and the price was well within the range of other "barbershop" haircuts Ive gotten in NYC. The two extremely negative reviews are unreliable, in my opinion. Thats why Im going back today!

Sergei is awesome. A great host and very friendly. The shop is old school and there are tons of regulars who can attest to the great work by Serg and Anastasia. This was my first time here and I ended up with neither of those two. I saw other great cuts there, but not mine. Mine was the worst haircut in at least the past 10 years. She cut it so short there is basically nothing I can do to hide it except to wait for nature to take its course and the hair to grow out. This mistake couldnt have come at a worse time as I get married in a month. Gulp.....

I want to like this place I really do. But the last 3 times Ive been there Ive walked away unsatisfied. Today was prob my last time there. After my haircut my barber said he liked what he did w my beard but wasnt crazy about the haircut he gave me. I asked for a fade and def didnt get that. And I said well you cut it so if you dont like it try and fix it. He said it will just have to grow out. The owner means well bit instead of talking to everyone who walks in it might be best to focus on the person in his chair.

Anastasia gave me one of the best haircuts Ive ever had. I wanted something specific and showed her a picture on my phone. She didnt just glance at it like most do. She looked at it very carefully and went back to it during the cut -- and asked me a few questions to clarify what I want. It was perfect. The place has an incredibly laid back but friendly and authentic feeling. Theres no BS and these guys know what theyre doing but manage to do it while still being friendly. Excellent experience.
