Joe Downey is a man who really knows how to get the job done! Joe REALLY cares about his customers and will " go the extra mile" to do everything he can to help them. This week I brought my 2005 VW Golf to Joe hoping that he could resolve a BIG problem that another repair shop had been unable to resolve. I had read the many wonderful reviews about Joe, and was confident I had come to the right place. I was right! Joe and his team worked with care and expertise to diagnose the problem. Then, through Joes many years of knowledge and expertise, he was able to completely resolve the problem, and I drove away with a big smile of relief! Joe is fair and honest, and gives each customer his very best. He clearly enjoys being able to help, and will apply his knowledgeable experience and creative talents to solve any problem. This kind of attention is hard to find! I highky recommend Downeys Auto Repair! Joe Downey knows his stuff!

I am a woman who knows almost nothing about cars and have been ripped off in the past (by another local garage). So great to have Joe Downey in town-someone who I trust.This is a trust that is built on a foundation of years of service to my family and all our cars-both in sales and repairs and also maintenance. He never pads a bill, and in fact takes the extra time and trouble to do just the opposite, having saved me so much money over the years. He is honest about when its smart to spend money so you can save money but that is something you would never know unless youve dealt with someone over the long term. My cars have run great and when i look back i am fully satisfied with not only the money i saved but also the money i spent. I will be a customer for life.

Can you name a foreign car dealer whom youd trust with a couple of thousand dollars on a gentlemans handshake? I can. We came over from Hungary on a one-year contract, during which time Joe and his crew took care of all the issues of our car, always trying to find the best possible solution at the lowest possible price. Downeys is one of those rare places that always give more than they take. He made such a good impression that we never hesitated to leave the car with him to sell before we returned home. Not only he did that in two weeks, he even handled the money transfer for us! Now, here is a striking example of a truly honest business. Thank you Joe!

Joe nailed it -- again. Just took my car in for a "clunk" that was happening with winter-roughed pavement. Joe Downey took it for a quick drive and said he thought it might be a sway bar mount. Sure enough, they put it on the lift and that was it. He called in for a part and asked them to bring it ASAP. The part arrived in literally minutes, and while I had a pleasant conversation on the benches out front of the shop, they got the part replaced and me back on the road. Another 5-Star diagnosis and repair at Downey Auto! Thanks.

Ive been coming to Downey Auto for years, even when they were located in Southeast/Patterson on Rt. 22. I have yet to find a more honest and upfront auto repair shop - anywhere - and I live in CT and have to drive about 20 minutes to get there... Joe has never taken advantage of me and has always worked to find affordable solutions to my auto problems. I simply dont trust other shops and Im willing to drive out of my way to have Downey Auto repair my vehicles. Highly recommend.

I own a car wash & quick lube. I recently had a customer claim we damaged her engine. Joe went above and beyond to visit the car at another repair station and diagnose the issue as a broken spark plug. The station where the car was said it had engine damage and needed a new engine. Joes diagnosis had the car back on the road after the spark plug was replaced and NO engine damage. Joe certainly is the Master of diagnosis and repair. I am customer for life. Thank you Joe,

Went here for the first time about a week ago and Im so glad I did; Joe Downey knows his stuff. Hes a real car wiz, a trustworthy mechanic who cares about his customers and their cars, not just making a buck. He did an excellent job on my car and his prices on tires cant be beat. What I paid was just under the estimate, and he was done with my car earlier than expected. Ive been to plenty of mechanics in the Dutchess County area and Downey is the best by far.

Not only is Joe my best friend since childhood but I am fortunate to have him as my mechanic. My last vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Echo was maintained by Joe and his knowledgeable crew to an astounding 439,000 miles in 9 years of commuting to New York City from Dutchess County. I feel pretty comfortable working around my vehicle but do not have the time to put into diagnosing, repairing, and servicing it. Downey Auto Repair has been 100% accurate with their diagnosis and have made the repairs correctly. I now use them exclusively for routine service and inspections. Finding that kind of comfort in an auto repair shop is a rarity. I would recommend them to anyone who has doubts about their current mechanic.

AMAZING VALUE and SERVICE. Joe runs a tight shop and works to build a relationship with his customers. he is right next to the train station so it is easy to drop your car without having to have someone pick you up. Joe found me an amazing deal on very inexpensive van when i needed one and he got it on the road for me under my budget. He will help you cut corners, but he insists when safety or future problems are a concern.

Ive been here twice now, and Joe gives me the impression of an honest guy who takes pride in this work. He had a clear opportunity to overcharge me today: I brought my car in for a problem that had an incredibly easy fix, thinking that it was going to be a lot worse. Joe did the easy fix and only charged me $20, even though he knew I was expecting a major problem and it was a slow day at the shop.

I bought an 2002 Subaru Outback from Downey Auto last year (April 2016) to drive around on the weekends. It runs great! Joe is a man of his word and means what he says. If the car needs anything looked at, rather than stay close to home, I make the hour drive so they can take care of it, including inspections and oil changes. Joe and team perform way above expectations.

Joe always does a great job and does not try to upsell you parts or services you do not need. He recently caught an exhaust leak in my engine and fixed it in time to prevent damage to the manifold and ultimately saved me hundreds. I would highly recommend Downey Auto to anyone who is looking for a quality autoshop that wont break the bank.
