May you never have a moment where you go in for a hair trim and look up to see the stylist has cut off all your hair--- hair that took 8 months to re-grow. The stylist discussed with me that she wanted to cut a little off the back to blend the cut better. At the time, my hair was about an inch below my ears in front and an inch below my shoulders in back. Hannah clipped my hair up in back, and started trimming… I looked up to realize she had cut ALL the hair at the back off. I think she just spaced, or something… and then the entire back 3 inches of hair was gone. After the shock wore off, I called Ananda and the owner, Larry, apologized. He had me go back in- I haven’t had a pixie cut like this since I was a kid and I was completely sick over it- but they did make the cut look better. Ananda then covered all my trims for 6 months, which was a nice gesture. Follow up: My conscience is insisting I update this and take my rating to a one star. At first the free haircuts (to make up for the chopping off of three inches) were fine... the stylist did a decent "really short, little boy" haircut. I was actually very happy with the first two, given the situation. But then it got strange. I showed photos of my hair when it was long and repeatedly said I wanted my hair to look like that again. But I kept getting a cut that was that same "little boy" style. Except it kept getting puffier. And longer in the back, but with a kind of scraggly two-tiered effect like that ugly 70s hairdo Carol Brady wore. Wed go over the photos and talk about what I wanted each appointment: weight taken out (thinned) and long, like the photos, with no two-tiered look. But then Id leave with the puffy, little boy haircut again. I wont say the stylists name because he is a really nice guy and I think he wanted to be able to do a good haircut, but just couldnt. The intent here is not to slam him, but to give an accurate review of Ananda. There was also the issue of every appointment being so rushed- Id be propelled out of the chair, only to get home and realize he hadnt shown me the back of my hair or that my bangs hadnt been trimmed, etc. Then I learned two things and everything made more sense. 1. He had recently started cutting hair. Which makes me suspect the "free haircuts" to make up for the chopped off hair was actually me serving as practice for a new stylist. (Also, the free haircuts had stopped and I have been paying $65 a cut the past half dozen appointments) 2. He double books every appointment. Which completely explains the rushing and the chunk of hair that is missing behind my left ear from this last appointment. Immediately after the last appointment, I found an experienced stylist who has her own shop to start fixing my hair... Her comment, "Oh my," sums it all up. My advice would be to avoid Ananda... its like the chain restaurant that doest care much about quality, but cares a whole lot about getting high numbers of people through and making a large profit. Stick with stylists who have experience and take time with their clients.

I got my hair cut by Haven at Ananda after reading great reviews online about both of them. Haven gave me the best hair cut Ive ever gotten, hands down. She really listened to my requests, and gave excellent suggestions regarding what she thought would look good. She gave me side swept bangs and suggested putting shorter bang pieces where the bangs were parted, showing me a picture of what it would look like. I really liked the idea but was nervous that it wouldnt look good, so she asked if i wanted her to just cut a little bit so I could have a preview of what it would look like, and if i didnt like it she wouldnt cut more and it could easily be hidden. I ended up liking the cute, edgy look that covered more of my forehead (fivehead), so I ended up asking her to cut more. Im always really nervous and usually soon filled with regret when I get my hair cut, but Havens expertise, great listening, and sweet nature made me feel very comfortable and I have no regrets! Ive never been happier with a hair cut. It was about $60+tip, but if you can afford it, its worth it.

I am very picky about who cuts my hair, there is only one girl in Maryland in my hometown that ever does what I want with it. I was sick of having to go home to Maryland every time I needed a haircut so I took a chance. Today I went to Laura and was a bit nervous because she was just assigned to me when I walked in to book the appointment but it ended up being everything I could have ever wanted. She sat down with me before she even started and asked me questions about how I wanted my hair cut, my daily style routine, what I dont like in a haircut, and actually cared that I got the cut I wanted. She was very meticulous and did exactly what I wanted even though I couldnt really explain it to her. We had great conversations and the salon is really nice. The cut is so great, and they offer student discounts, so be sure to ask about those when you call to book your appointment! My boyfriend went to Mary over the weekend, he is even more picky than I am, and she did a great job as well. My roommate also goes to Mary and loves her hair every time. GO HERE!

I do not usually write reviews but I feel I have to share the wonderful experience I have had there. Let me just say that my hair was a God awful, hot mess of bleached yellow and orange that I inflicted upon myself in a moment of sheer stupidity. Think Cindy Lauper in the 80"s...that would be about the color of my hair and that would be fine if i was 18...I might have been able to pull it off, but I am not 18. Luckily, I called Ananda two days later and reached a very helpful lady who took pity on a very desperate woman and scheduled me an appointment with Jesse. Jesse was absolutely wonderful. She was very interested in what I wanted and did not make me feel any dumber than I already felt! What she did to my hair was absolutely beautiful! Genius! THERE IS NOT ONE HINT OF ORANGE IN MY HAIR!!! I have scheduled an appointment in six weeks to return to let her trim and touch up my beautiful hair! Everyone there was fabulous and so kind...thank you so much!

I recently had an excellent experience at Aanada Hair Studio with Jade. She gave me a gorgeous cut and color. I had gone to a cosmetology school prior to going to Ananda and had let a student experiment on my hair. It ended up extremely damaged and an unpleasant color. I basically had to wear it under a hat all of the time because I disliked it so much. Jade sat down with me and together we worked out a style that was much more creative and more practical for my lifestyle. She matched my natural hair color perfectly near my roots and colored the brassy blonde ends to a pretty near platinum ombre with a perfect gradient in between. Not only does my hair look and feel better now, but I actually receive compliments on what used to be a damaged mess! She gave me advice on how to prevent my hair from losing color or getting more damaged. Jade was very professional and thoughtful to work with. I love my hair now!
