Back drop: I was in a desperate state to fix my hair that was incorrectly cut by someone claiming to know how to cut curls. I tried on 2 separate occasions at a local salon: The first cut, one stylist gave me awkward layers and she angled the front of my hair (nearest to my face) and it came up shorter than requested. The second occasion a master stylist attempted to correct the previous stylists’ mistake and she too, came up with the short stick and still didn’t fix it. After a few months of letting my hair grow out from that disaster I began looking for hair salons outside my local area and stumbled upon NSalo Salon’s website. Their bios on each stylist were great; Rhea’s caught my attention with a line that mentioned she too had curly hair. I did read some online (Yelp) reviews from many years earlier that were not as positive but Google reviews reassured me. I scheduled an appt anyway giving them the benefit of the doubt. During my appt with Rhea Pemberton we talked styles, daily expectations, and past haircuts. She thoroughly scrutinized my hair and I felt very relaxed during our talk. She explained every last detail on what she would do to fix my hair completely without making it too short. I thought to myself….. “PPff! We shall see about that”…… Spoiler Alert: Boy was I wrong to doubt her!!! She managed to give me one of the best haircuts I’ve had in such a long time with a cut that I’ve never actually tried! The curls were bouncier and healthy and really contoured to my face. This excitement was short lived because I was about to face the bigger challenge later that week: washing and styling it myself in hopes of duplicating her creation. Success! I managed to recreate it using her helpful advice for curls and now I have bouncy less frizzy curls on a daily basis! I wish I would have gone to her sooner but now that I’ve found a place I love I’ll be a frequent visitor. My recommendation would be to try out the salon because I gave them an opportunity to work on my hair and they surpassed my expectations.

Roby knows what hes doing and fills his business with the best of the best! Everyone there is up-to-date on the latest and the greatest in hair and fashion. Its obvious the second you walk in that these people are top-notch. With great attitudes and a passion for what they do, Nsalo Salon is THE BEST SALON in Wilmington, NC. I have curly hair and have never known what to do with it. After seeing Roby For nearly a year now Im on my way to not just looking and feeling great when I leave the salon but knowing what to do between visits. Hes taught me to embrace my curls not abuse them and for anyone else with curls you need to ask Roby about the Sea Salt spray. It does what the ocean would to your hair but better (and without damaging)! Check these guys out, you wont regret it!

Truth be told, I never have time to get my hair cut. I had gone to Nsalo several times in the past with great results, but when my stylist left, I was prompted by a coworker to try a different salon. It was a much hyped business with all the bells and whistles, but when it came right down to it, I got a crappy haircut. I returned to Nsalo yesterday and felt a sigh of relief. There were no gimics, just fantastic stylists who gave me a phenomenal cut. Erica was friendly, professional and LISTENED TO ME. As long as I live in Wilmington, I will never try another salon again.

I got a great color--so shimmery, red and natural looking. I asked for a trim and got a really short cut, though. The lady who cut my hair wasnt paying attention. A had a really detailed but negative review up for a few days, but I decided it was too scathing, so I deleted it. The owner is terrific and courteous and they do have very talented artists there. I just had a fluke bad experience. This place is really good if you live downtown.

I used to go to Melissa (who left). So, based on good reviews, I signed up to see Erika. What a disappointment!!! The hair cut was expensive and service was mediocre at best. Erika couldnt care less about me and didnt listen to what I wanted for my hair cut. She spent most of the time bitching about the front desk girl and making fun of her intelligence. Hair cut was not great either. What a big disappointment!!!!

The BEST salon in town! The stylist are AMAZING, especially Roby Powers who is also the owner - that man was born with scissors in his hand! The prices are extremely competitive and everyone is super friendly! The vibe is upbeat, the products are top notch and the services are never lacking! I highly recommend NSalo as I have tried many other salons in town! No one compares!

Best salon Ive found in 10 years of living in Wilmington! A great group of people that feed off each others talent and all care about your experience. Ive been getting hair extensions for years and Erica was the first stylist to really pay attention to making sure they still had a stylish cut! Great prices for the quality of service and product you get!

BEST haircut Ive ever had! First time at Nsalo and I was extremely impressed. Chris cut my hair and I would highly, highly recommend him. He was precise, thorough, and really took the time to make sure everything was perfect. Five out of five stars for Chris and this salon!
