I assumed this was just going to be a "bro fest" of "boys" trying to act like men. I was dead wrong. Modern Man is a unique experience you wont find in any other barber shop. I was met with a kind regard, a sip of whiskey, and a cigar to take the edge off my daily grind. The staff treated me like an old friend, and accommodated in every way my grandfather would have been in his neighborhood barber shop in 1946. But dont mistake the niche culture of this small business - they take their cuts, shaves, and treatments very seriously. These isnt a rock and roll barber shop where some kid will hack your hair and skin your chin. This is somewhere I want to bring my dad and talk boxing or carpentry or admire the finely crafted accoutrements. And as a note to anyone who reacts to the initial idea of a "male-centric" space - this isnt for the pseudo-masculine bullshit like misogyny or male-superiority that "boys" often call manhood. Its a place for men to be pampered without using words like "pampered".

Wow-where did everyone else go? This place was the worst Groupon experience yet. A terrible scam and waste of a gift for my husband! This was a stocking gift for him and this was the result. 1. While sitting in the chair, barber was complaining about Groupon users. Thanks buddy-sorry to have tried your business. 2. His face was butchered! He was still bleeding this morning. AND there was still hair on his face. Apparently his barber was nice, but not good. His sideburns were also 3/4" uneven. 3. The guy would not give him his "product" at the end! A supposed $17.00 item. Thanks pal-we will never come back and I will warn others of your service! Groupon is to try new business so you can find places you would like to later frequent. If you dont like us, DONT"T OFFER GROUPONS!

Modern Man is a must visit. The ambiance is perfect - whiskey, darts, and cigars perfectly compliment your time in the chair. I went for a hot towel shave, because Id never had one. It was a nice experience; very relaxing, even when the barber had a blade to my throat. It didnt live up to my expectations because my expectations were unrealistic. I thought it would be this amazing shave, but its entirely similar to one at home. The difference is just whos doing the shaving. So if you, like me, are someone who doesnt shave often because you get nasty razor burn, dont expect anything different from a special hot towel shave. That said, Id definitely recommend Modern Man - it is a superior barber shop with great atmosphere and attention to detail.

Modern Man definitely blew away my expectations. I had read a bit here and there before the visit, but was still a little worried it was going to be too much Ted(s) Nugent & Turner and not enough Dos Equis Guy. There are dead animals on the wall, but in only the classiest of ways, the glass of Jameson was perfect for the cool night, the conversation was comfortable to fall into, and stepping outside for a cigar was a great touch. Decor aside (obviously), the barbers are amazing. I went in for a hot towel shave and ended up almost falling asleep with a blade at my neck. The shave was so close and comfortable that my face is still smooth the next afternoon. Great surrounding, great location, great conversation, great shave. Ill be back soon.

Modern Man has likely stolen me as a client from Rudys and Bishops. Everything seems to have been said in previous reviews, but heres mine: -Easy going staff -Whiskey / Beer / etc. (this is becoming a must-have for any place that cuts my hair) -Theyre local! -Everyone on the staff was friendly. My cut was from Chase... and I must say, even with a slight hangover this morning, Im looking mighty sharp. He had great attention to detail and took the time to explain his process and techniques. Having a straight razor shave on the back of the neck was icing on the cake.

I went here because I had heard great things about it, turns out it was very disappointing. I simply asked for a Buzz cut and a straight razor shave, nothing fancy no styling, not a thing difficult. I left looking like I was a cactus thanks to the un-even buzz cut, and with hair still on my face from the shave, and even after pointing out the hair left to the barber I got told "I cant give a better shave than that." I would LOVE to go here, it looks like an amazing place, but for the price (over $50) and the level of service I will not be returning any time soon.

A shave and a haircut may no longer be two bits but its worth it when whiskey and cigars are involved. The folks running this old timey establishment are great at what they do. They make you feel comfortable while waiting for your appointment. The straight razor shave is a must try for any gent who needs to feel like a new man. On a personal experience, I was cut a cigar for my birthday after my appointment and it made by day. It may not have been a Cuban but it was enough to set this barbershop apart from the rest of the gentlemen-oriented establishments.

I have never been more disappointed with a business in my life. We made a reservation for five of us for a bachelor party. When we arrived they had only recorded one person. This was disappointing but at least the groom-to-be would get the experience. Except that they were over an hour behind and we had a schedule to keep so no one got shaves that day. We politely complained (being a jerk gets you nowhere) and were told "sorry, call the owner because we cant do anything for you."

Its hard to find a great barber for men sometimes, but this place is definitely one of the best now. It might cost a little more than some high-volume national chain, but lets see what you get: free drink while you wait for your appointment, extremely nice and welcoming staff, a nice selection of mens products, and a cigar at the end of your visit. My first visit was with a Google Offer, but I would have no problem spending full money to visit again.

I seriously just got the best haircut ever today. Really cool barber, great atmosphere, and best of all-a solid price. They were very helpful too: I had no idea what to get my haircut as, but with a few suggestions Im definitely looking like a whole new man. Im not gonna lie-Ive already gotten five complements already a few hours after leaving, I freaking love this place!

I got my hair cut at Modern Man for the first time this morning. The barber shop just off of Alberta is located in a nice old building with lots of charm. I was offered a complimentary shot of whiskey or a beer before my haircut. Mikey gave me a very good haircut. I will definitely come back for my next cut.

After 6 years of buzz cuts I decided to switch it up. I let my hair grow for two months, walked in, and told Patrick to just do whatever he thought would work. Best haircut ever, Ive never received more compliments about my hair. The few extra dollars is well spent here versus run-of-the-mill barber shops.

When you want to get a haircut and have it done right, this is the place to go. A really homey and relaxed feel as soon as you walk in. The barbers are top notch and the owners are awesome. To top it off, after your cut you can have some whiskey and a cigar. Cant beat it!
