I have been in the culinary industry for about 15 years and over those years I have seen and experienced a lot both living in the US and abroad. What I can say about all of those experiences is that it takes a true team to pull off events over and over again flawlessly week in and week out creating memorable atmospheres that are for celebrations such as weddings, showers, and birthday parties. So when I go to events I can be very critical of not just the food but how the staff is. Are they polite, well groomed, knowledgeable of the food items being served, and more importantly is the management polite to not just the mother-of-the-bride and the groom but are they also polite to their team members? Also is the team able to think quickly on their feet in the event that an “outdoor dream wedding” has windy or rainy conditions. Well Sage is! I don’t just say this because I too am from Berwyn, where their corporate headquarters are. I say this because I have been to several of their events located in Chester County, Philadelphia and New Jersey. Each time they have “wowed” me! Their food is made from scratch! Tell me when was the last time you were at a wedding and they had hors d’oeuvres that came from the freezer section? (Probably more times than all the pennies it took the couple to equate to the thousands of dollars that they spent on their dream wedding!) I have been to more than enough culinary industry food vendor shows to know the difference between homemade Philly Cheesesteak Spring Rolls and freezer section spring rolls. Let me tell you Sage’s are homemade and to die for!!! This is just one item out of the numerous items that I have had the pleasure of tasting and their food is made from high quality ingredients! (Just wait until you see the fresh watercress that they use as a garnish on their entrees!) I have also witnessed that behind the great food is a team that genuinely cares! I saw the event manager saying please, thank you, and great job to their team! Even connecting with other guests who were not just a part of “The Wedding Party” that to me speaks volumes! It truly showed that they cared about all of the guests as well as their team. So I must say great job Sage for consistently providing not only great food from scratch but also for providing an environment that is not only genuinely kind to the other guests but also to your employees!

What are the top criteria to rate a caterer? for me they are: 1. Food Quality 1A. Service. Sage Catering receive the highest marks for each of these as my experience was flawless. Sage catered a wedding for life-long friends of mine, which was held at Appleford in Gladwyne. Hors doeuvres were fantastic, creative, and plentiful; all of the bars were operating in a highly efficient manner throughout the evening. Once seated, food and wine were served without any delay. As a number of speeches were being delivered, the caterers moved expertly through the crowded patio to serve the guests without distracting them from the speakers. I had the Filet - it was delicious. One other personal note, my friend who has a severe food allergy, was approached before dinner to identify him and make sure they knew the proper protocol - attention to the little things make a big difference! Lastly, I was impressed that in addition to serving the many guests, they took extra care to bring the bride and groom drinks and apps the entire night - great job taking care of the persons of honor. Thanks to Sage Catering for making a memorable summer celebration even better!!

DO NOT HIRE THEM! Where do I begin? I worked at a wedding hall for 5 years & I have never seen such unprofessional staff. Perhaps my standards were set above normal being I worked in the business but #SageCatering upset our wedding day in many ways. They showed up late & didnt to set up a bar outside which caused complete chaos for cocktail hour. The line was out the door and it was humiliating. The only reason we had the wedding at Ridley Creek Mansion was to enjoy the outdoor veranda and nobody could do that all night bec they were waiting inside for drinks. When my Mother asked Dana to set the bar up she said it was too late, too windy, too understaffed. After that Dana was MIA, when asked to see her a waiter laughed & said she was “HIDING IN THE KITCHEN”. They DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH APPETIZERS, everyone complained and I was HUMILIATED. On top of all of this the bartenders took a $100 tip from one of our drunken guests to load OUR alcohol on a party bus. When we confronted Greg Shockley w/all of this he apologized but kept putting off resolving it with reimbursement. We have waited 5 months to review online w/hopes he would.

I have never written a review about a catering company until NOW!! I recently attended a wedding catered by Sage Catering of Berwyn PA. I would recommend them in a heartbeat! Every single hors doeuvres I tasted (and I tasted plenty of them, more than I should have :) ) was more fabulous then the last! The staff was very attentive and very friendly. The thing I thought was so cool, is there was a server attending specifically to my friend, the bride, making sure she ate and had enough to drink while getting her pics taken!!! That was a really special touch. Dinner was served and they did not disappoint. I had the sea bass which could easily compete with any 5 star restaurant. My boyfriend had the filet which was again top notch. Yes, I tasted that too. I couldnt resist. The dish was so well displayed it looked too good to eat! So if you are looking for an upscale caterer with fabulous food, excellent staff and a real attention to detail, Sage of Berwyn PA is the caterer for you. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

After attending a wedding and a party catered by Sage, my fiance and I knew that we had found the PERFECT caterer for our wedding! From the moment that we met with Greg and Liz Shockley, we knew that our family and friends would have an exceptional experience. When we arrived at our reception, we greeted by Ed and his staff who could not be more organized and professional. From cocktails to the most outstanding main course our wedding was perfect in so many ways. We could not be happier! We also used Sage Floral for our flowers. They did exactly what I wanted. We still have people come up to us today and tell us how wonderful our wedding was. We would recommend Sage Catering to anyone! In fact we have! Two of my girlfriends who were getting married within the year, were so impressed with Sage that they both decided to use Sage Catering as well. One actually changed her caterer to Sage! We were so excited to attend their weddings because we knew everything would be perfect, and it was!

I would NOT recommend this vendor to anyone. I was the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE and paid thousands for this event. My daughter and I spoke to the manager Dana who assured us they were the best at everything, however our investment and trust in Sage was a huge mistake. Dana ended up being a disorganized dysfunctional manager who forgot all of the important details we discussed with her. After our first complaint she could not be found the rest of the night. A lot of guests complained, it was embarrassing. The STRESS WAS UNBEARABLE and still overwhelms us. We had problems from the very beg to the end. They did not provide enough food for cocktail hour. It was a complete lack of service/management. We stressed our extreme unhappiness to owner Greg and reiterated our expectations. We made it very clear that this was unacceptable but it seems as though they do not care. Not one attempt at settling this with reimbursement for ruining a day we could not get back.
