I knew I was in trouble the moment I saw it. I did not just have the dreaded blue screen of death, I had the dreaded blue screen of “what the hell is this” death. It was a blue screen, like the one where you login with the squiggly lines. But the arrow cursor was so big I didnt need my glasses. What the heck? In all my years of using Windows I have never seen it. I did not panic. Not at first. I knew there were steps I could take to try to resolve it. To me, it was probably a virus. Im pretty savvy. Not your typical middle-age woman. I’m not one to think that every guy on Facebook with a foreign name and six friends is really interested in dating me. Im smarter than that when it comes to technology. However, when I failed. I knew. Thats when I called the guys at Tru Computer. I wasnt sure of their reputation, just the location of their shop because I pass it all the time. They were the first local option that came to mind. There used to be another local guy that people called ‘the best’, I went to his shop once for a broken screen. He dangled a Marlboro over my netbook as he checked it out and told me three weeks to fix it. I didn’t have week this time. I had a 50k current book in progress that I stupidly didn’t back up. I spoke to Jason who said on the phone, “Sounds like it might be a hard drive failure.” Da … da .. dum. Hard drive failure. Now, keep in mind, computer repairman have about the same reputation as an auto repair shop, almost afraid to bring it into the shop for fear that theyre going to tell you theres more wrong with it then there already is. So I was leery, but I needed my book. Broken 7 yr old lap told and new external drive in hand, I arrived the shop was bright and clean and was greeted by a wonderfully nice young man named Nick. He took one look at that large cursor and said, “It’s more than likely hard drive failure. But no worries, 9 out of 10 times we can get those files for you.” What a relief. That‘s all I wanted. But here’s the kicker, here’s where I knew I was dealing with honest people. I asked Nick if I should bother replacing and repairing the laptop or just buy an affordable new one. He had his chance to rake me for more money and he didn’t. He didn’t. He said he’d get a new one. Seriously? That alone told me so much about this company. Less than twenty four hours later, after a confirmed hard drive failure, I had the external drive back in my hands. But wait … it gets better. The drive I had purchased was not functioning. The files were there but the drive was corrupt. I called them again, this time speaking to Jason. He said to bring the new lap top, the old one and the drive and he would transfer directly to the new laptop. He would do that for me. Three hours after I dropped it off they called. Not only did they transfer files, they fix the external AND .. saved me an hour by reloading my old faithful version of WORD on the new PC. The cost of this extra mile … included. These bring, energetic, young guys are amazing. I expected to pay a fortune and I didn’t. I expected to have to wait … and I didn’t. They were fast, efficient and honest. They saved my files and a lot of work. These young men have a bright future in front of them, as well as cool matching shirts. Tru Computer is a top notch business, that puts the customer satisfaction first. They deserve all accolades they get. Forget Geek Squad. Seriously. Forget them. Say, “geek Squad who?” I need to supe up my desktop before film competition season and they will get the business. In fact, I can’t wait to give them the project because I know they will deliver beyond my expectations. Their mothers should be very proud.

tl;dr: Thoroughly positive experience - would recommend Tru Computers in Bethel Park w/o reservation! ... >>> Seven year-old desktop computer died last week and wouldnt reboot. I suspected the power supply had failed, but I didnt want to go to the hassle of buying one online and installing it without knowing for sure. Previous positive reviews for Tru Computers plus their policy of no-upfront-diagnostics-charge made it relatively risk-free to ask them to consult. Pleasantly surprised to see how clean and uncluttered the store was, and found the overall vibe to be very professional and competent, but also friendly and accessible. Nick was first point of contact, and Jason was able to do a quick unplug&swap test to establish that the power supply was the most likely cause of the failure. I appreciated the fact that I could observe this process (and that they were willing to do the test then and there) and was reassured by the straightforward answers the guys provided to my questions about troubleshooting. While they were concerned that the motherboard might also be a bit wonky, further testing after Id left confirmed that only the power supply needed to be replaced. Id priced out OEM-replacements via Newegg beforehand, and Tru Computers charged only a few dollars more for the part than mail order! (So relieved to see there was no price gouging for hardware!!) I thought the install charge was also reasonable at $40, given that I didnt have to pay anything upfront for diagnostics, and Nick took the time to make the new wiring loom incredibly tidy and robust. Turnaround time was also reasonable and satisfied my schedule, and Jason called twice (first to confirm the diagnostics result, and then to advise that the repair was complete). Store hours and parking were very convenient, and overall I was very pleased with this experience and would not hesitate to recommend Tru Computers to anyone else who needed service for a computer hardware issue. In fact, this was such a good experience that Ive entrusted them with a prospective 1TB data recovery job - but first well need to see if the data is even recoverable! And the fact that I dont have to pay a fee for them to figure that out makes doing business with Tru Computers seem almost risk-free.

In the past month i had two major hardware issues with my computer. On the first issue i went to a big box store to try and fix it. They sold me a fix that did not work. A friend who is a computer programmer recommended i see the guys at tru computer for help. I called them on a friday afternoon at almost 5 PM and explained i had a problem, but was also on a deadline for a project i was working on. They told me to stop in their store and they would look at my problem. Long story short, by 6:30 on a friday night, tru computers solved my problem, and the cost was 50% less than what the big box store charged me. The second problem was also a few weeks later i had a hardware issue where the only solution was to have the connecting cord rewired to make it work. Again, i called tru computers and explained my situation and needed help quickly because of the deadline i was on. Once again, i dropped my equipment off on a friday after 5, and tru computers had it ready for me by 10 am the next morning. The staff at tru computers is much more knowledgable than any of the chain stores. Additionally, they have demonstrated twice to me that they are willing to go the extra mile to solve problems. Also, it was refreshing to see how they offered solutions to the problems i faced with much more cost effective fixes, and they did it with a turn around time that was very quick. If you live in the south hills, and you have issues with your computer, tru computers needs to be the first call you make. I have never written a review of any service or product ever, but the exemplary service provided by tru computers was unmatched, and the prices that they charged were so economical that i was motivated to write this review. I would definitely recommend them.
