I guess I can start by saying that the "no contract" deal is what helped me decide to join this gym. That is the only good part about it. From rude to unprofessional staff, this place has it all. I was waiting for the "fitness director" to finish using a leg exercise machine, when I wanted to get on it she says her friend is using it next, but her friend was on another machine and not even close to done. The fitness director gave me attitude about getting on the machine. What was I to do? Wait 10 minutes so that her friend could use it next? I pay for using the equipment while employees get to work out for free then I get attitude because I do not want to wait 10 minutes. I was disgusted by her. While on the elliptical machine, I’ve heard on different occasions, one of the cleaning staff cursing the place out loud and complaining about “what a dump the place is” it was everything I could do to cancel my membership right there and then. I do not want to hear problems that employees have with the place I patronize. If that person thinks the place is a dump then quit. Finally, the group class room is freezing in the winter and a sauna in the summer due to “broken and dripping AC” so be ready for that.

I have been a member of the Harrisburg location for about 3 years. Last summer they had a problem with the A/C and I was told the parts were on order and it would be repaired as soon as they arrived. I cannot do a cardio workout when the gym is 80 degrees! I went in earlier this week and the A/C is broken again and, once again, I was told the parts are on order and it will be repaired on Thursday. When I walk from the elliptical machines toward the weight side of the gym there is a noticeable difference in temperature as it is much cooler. The manager said it is because of the pool and restrooms on the side where the cardio equipment is located. Well, why didnt they think of that in the first place? Its never cool enough in there for me--not even in the winter. Id rather go outside on a nice day and take a very long walk! I simply dont think they care a hoot about their customers. It is usually very clean, but some of the equiment is getting old and worn. If I had to pay an initiation fee and $30 a month, I would not bother. I got in when they had a better promotion and no fee.

Avoid if possible! 1. Signing up is annoying because they require too much personal information. Also the fees are stupid- a signup fee? Am I signing up for cell phone service or a gym?! 2. They dont take NO for an answer. They call and harass you to get a personal trainer. When you tell them no they keep calling anyway. I eventually resorted to ripping into the person that kept calling which finally ended the calls. 3. After a few months of seeing how truly clueless the staff was about everything I decided to cancel my membership. Its a pain in the a$$. You have to mail in forms and what not. Be sure to send everything via registered mail so you know they received the information. I figured this out after they lost my cancellation forms twice. I paid for two months I didnt use because of the missing forms! Google LA fitness class action lawsuit to see what comes up. Im not the only one complaining about this cancellation process. Summary- I wish I could give this place a zero.

Im not sure about all the AC and heat problems the others have described, Ive always felt that the temperature is more than accurate for me. While this isnt the nicest gym Ive ever been too, it certainly isnt the worse. Only in the evenings after work is it crowded, which makes it a perfect place to get in and get out. Ive never seen broken equipment, nor have I been bothered by employees trying to upswell me on other things. Its a decent gym. Ive been to the Mechanicsburg, York, and Warminster locations, and the 4 of them are all pretty much the same, albeit the Mechanicsburg gym always seems to have a lot of people in it. To sum it up, LA Fitness in Harrisburg is better than Planet Fitness in Harrisburg, and not as nice as the Golds Gym, but for the price point and equipment available - Im quite happy with it.

Ive been going here for almost a year now and its going downhill fast. The rates you pay are absurd for a dirty gym, old equipment, no wifi, limited space and equipment that you cant use unless you pay even more to get a personal trainer from them. No space to do stretching/abs unless youd like to be physically stepped over by people exiting from the racquetball court, which is great. The staff is incredibly rude. If youre not an attractive girl using the personal trainers, you will get made fun of and judged by the trainers (pretty obvious from the looks on their faces while they are training other people.) Oh, and if you try to negotiate a better price with them, they talk you in circles and try to make you look stupid, when really they are just terrible salesman and are losing customers left and right.

There is always several ways to get any exercise done. Some of the ab machines are fantastic! I almost never have to wait for any machine or free weights to do any exercise. There are a couple hours in the day when it is crowded, but I can always work around the crowd because I can do any exercise with various machines and methods. I have never had to wait for a treadmill or elliptical machine no matter how crowded it was. The showers and bathrooms are clean. The equipment is well maintained, except that some of the treadmills and ellipticals have problems with the heart rate monitors. They have a doctors office quality scale I can use. They do not get pissed at me because I am fit and love to show up regularly to work out in their gym (unlike Planet Fitness).

They are frauds, not long ago in January I had surgery in my foot so doctors told me no hard labor such as working out or driving and working... I called them to let them know my situation and go ahead to cancel but he froze the account instead so they can keep charging me every month... I realize that when two weeks ago I lost my card in a parking lot and someone found it on the next day but my bank told me they were frauds activity on my card like payment from places I didnt know about. When they mention LA fitness I told them I cancelled long time ago. Today I called them to let them know, they told me if i dont have a receipt they wont refund me and the lady close the account over the phone again and hang up on me.

Good: Its relatively empty most of the time and nobody tries to lift on top of me. Never once had any trainers in my way. They have two squat racks. They have a trap bar. They have plenty of benches. They have two C2 rowing machines in perfect working order. Bad: The squat racks are not the adjustable type. That means no partials and that I need to exit the rack to squat to parallel. No bars have outer knurling for snatch grip, or center knurling if youre cool enough to do single handed work (I am not). The pullup bars have that weird rubber condom on them that means you have to readjust grip every couple of pullups.
