I just moved to the neighborhood and thought how wonderful it was that there was a salon in walking distance. I made an appointment, brought a picture, to which the hairstylist said "oh that will look gorgeous." I usually have a bob of sorts, and I wanted something more exciting, more of a style. He agreed (the picture I gave him was *not* a bob). He then proceeded to wash my hair (no towel around my neck, cold water), then began cutting. Timidly. Slowly. Combing my hair against my neck, raking my skin with the comb, over and over, until it started to hurt. As my hair started to dry over the hour it took him to cut it, he sprayed it--and my *face*--with water. No hand in the way to shield me, just sprayed me straight in the face. I have to take off my glasses and cant see a thing when Im getting my hair cut, but this was feeling very wrong indeed. When I could finally put my glasses on an hour later, what did I see but a much shorter bob than I had before, but this time with bangs. This was the EXACT opposite of the picture I had given him. I started to cry. It took an hour for him to give me a lame bob! Not even a good one, and not at all what I had asked for. I was then chastised by the hairstylist next to us, who told me it looked beautiful (it did not), and why was I so upset? Its only hair, after all. (An odd position for a hairstylist to take.) She said it looked just like the picture, except that he left it longer in the back to be careful. And then she told me I really didnt want it that short. Really? Why would I bring in the picture if that wasnt the haircut I wanted? She was very condescending, as was my hairstylist. Still crying, I got up, refused to pay, and walked out the door. I stopped into La La Luxe, only a few blocks down Elmgrove, and they took me right away, gave me a lovely haircut (though they couldnt make it quite like the picture, thanks to the butchering at Strands), and they are even less expensive.

After switching hair stylists for the first time ever, I thought I would give Strands a try. First off the parking is awful. You will have to pay to park otherwise you will never find spot. Second, I sat in the waiting area for 20 minutes past my appt time, while watching my stylist chat with a co-worker. Not a very good first impression. After finally getting into the chair he realized a scheduling snafu, I could not have my hair done. When I initially scheduled the appt, I told them color and cut, When I had to reschedule the appt due to being sick, I told the girl that I would only have a cut so that I could be seen sooner, but she put me in a slot for a color and cut, and apparently scheuduled other people around my appt time. He stressed he did not want his other clients to wait b/c of this, however, it was okay for me to wait 20 minutes after my scheduled appt time so he could chat. I could see the rudeness and aggravation is the stylists face, (paul). I have never been treated so rudely before, and will NOT reschedule with this salon. You would expect a little better service it being my first time there, and they were not polite about it AT ALL!!! In this economy you should appreciate any business you can get, apparently they do not, and treat people like crap.

I went there multiple times and every time I go I say this will be my last as I would come out very upset. But It is around the corner from my place, with a very convenient location and no need to drive far I always give it a second (or maybe by now 10th) chance. My experience is limited to Michael Matuizek since he is the only stylist I have used. Other stylist might be better. Basically I will never go there again I promise now. Micheal is very arrogant. He thinks he is a CEO of some big company or something. He does not listen to customer and he does always what he wants on YOUR HAIR. I understand he has to give his expert opinion but he needs to be expert first. Even experts listen to the need of their customers. When he misses up he does not like to be criticized or asked to redo anything again. He will start to huff and puff. Micheal is always right and customer is always wrong... even though it is your hair and your money... he is the "BIG shot" expert. He is very expensive for his very average work or maybe some times less than average work.

Patti McVay did not arrive on time for our scheduled appointment. The receptionist told me that I made a mistake and would need to sit and wait to see if Patti could squeeze me in. I explained to the rude receptionist that I could not have made a mistake because I was getting married in 2 days and I had the appointment on my calendar for 3 months. When Patti did get around to seeing me she was rude and rushed. I made it clear that I just wanted a trim, but she cut my hair in a fast & furious rage. When she turned the chair around I burst into tears while she stood proud and smiled. Then she took the smock off and said have a great wedding day in very sarcastic tone. I was shocked. So were my friends and family when the saw my hair!

I was in a jam when my regular stylist was unavailable and i was leaving to go out of town. I had a gift certificate to Strands and thought id give it a go. I was thrilled when i called and they gave me an appointment the first thing the next day. The stylist was 20 mins late, and i had seen him stop at the Starbucks for his coffee beforehand. He was chatty about his life, but failed to listen to a word i said about what haircut i wanted. I keep my hair short and brought a picture, which he glanced at one time. It took him an hour to complete the awful thing, which made me look like a man... never again!

I love my hairdresser at Strands, Normand, but I always get nervous calling in because half the time a woman receptionist answers and is so unfriendly I feel like Im bothering her and like she cant wait to hang up and get rid of me. I keep going because, again, my hairdresser is AWESOME, but I wish the people answering phones would be a little more customer service oriented! i would give normand 5 stars, but the customer service (at least the one receptionist) 1 star.

I love this spot! I went to Linda for a facial which was very good, shes also phenomenal at brows. Perfect shape just the way I had requested and almost entirely pain free (oddly enough). Dailyn fixed a horrible bang trim I had done at an unnamed salon (on Westminster) and managed to give someone like me whos never had a great hair day in my life...a great hair day. I am a city girl who just moved from Washington and this spot measures up. Definitely recommended.
