My husband and I have used both Marchants property management service and their real estate service and both times were highly successful. We were very surprised to see such negative comments about a company we have come to trust. We have lived in Greenville for thirteen years and have bought, sold, and rented more times than we care to remember. We have used several real estate companies over the years, and no one has ever come close to providing the level of service and competence provided by our Marchant realtor, James Akers Jr. James stuck with us through a lengthy, frustratingly complex and sometimes demoralizing sale. Never once did he lose his cool or professionalism and made himself available to us at all times, whether to resolve some complicated issue or just to provide assurance that everything would indeed work out in the end. We were especially pleased by how well connected he was within the community and how well respected he seemed to be.... We remember specifically needing the services of a local tradesmen whom we had trouble accessing in the past with another real estate firm. We were amazed when the company not only returned James call within the day, but actually showed up (on time) within the week! A year on, my husband and I both carry a hefty stack of James business cards in our wallet in case someone ever asks for a recommendation. As for the property management side of Marchant, we enlisted Hunter Hughey to list and manage our home while we were out of the area for a year. The whole process was efficient and streamlined and the tenants he provided were responsible, professional people. The tenant contacted Marchant twice for two issues, and both times Marchant had the problem repaired by a certified company within a few days, to the tenants satisfaction. We were pleased the companies selected were reputable but not overpriced. To be fair, the management team wasnt the warmest group weve ever dealt with, but we were more interested in their competence - and we werent dissapointed.

I agree with all of the other reviews. Marchant property management is managing a property that is being remodeled behind my home. The house’s fence was recently replaced and as a result, all of the old chain link fence that was replaced as well as large tree branches that were trimmed was dumped into my back yard. I called to complain and after being passed from person to person, I was finally told by Gayle, the property manager that they would get to it when they would get to it and that they would NOT be making a special trip out to clean up the mess. When I expressed concern over my small children playing near the rusty pile of fencing on my property she told me to have them play somewhere else. ITS MY YARD. Ive owned my home for 6 1/2 years and have never had a problem in our neighborhood. Finally after exhausting all other efforts, I told Gayle I was going to call Code Enforcement because what happened was considered illegal. Her response to me was "Go Ahead." I have never encountered such a rude, unprofessional "manager" in my life. She should work for the DMV or IRS instead of a rental company that boasts "Great customer service" as one of their mottos. It baffles me how she still has a job. The mess in my yard was only cleaned up after I posted a note on the door of the house and a contractor was nice enough to come move all of the debris. I will NEVER use or rely on Marchant Property management for ANY of my future real estate needs. *** After being asked to remove my negative online review by a lawyer representing Marchant Property Management, I would like to clarify that Marchant does NOT own the home being remodeled. They are the "property management" company for this home

Slum lords. Our house has absolutely no insulation; it was literally just whatever temperature it was outside. We would have frozen over the winter if it werent for our furnace. I asked them time and time again to reinsulate the house to no avail. The worst part was that our neighbors in the back would constantly throw trash, used needles, chicken bones (which can kill our dogs), and other disgusting items into our yard. They would also jump our fence into our yard while I was home alone. Calling the police did very little. I asked them to please consider installing a privacy fence as the neighbors had to keep us safe. Nothing. Of course, the owner has to approve it, but we were flat out unsafe & they should have pushed for it. The mainetenance man who came as I was moving out was horrified at the shoddy repair work done previously. The kitchen floor was sinking and there was mold. The neighborhood was also extremely unsafe, but thats not the companys fault I suppose. Honestly, this might all be softened by a low rent price, but what we paid was something you would expect to get a very nice home out of. At the time of our lease renewal, they told us our rent was going UP. I was fed up. They asked us if we would stay if they kept the rent down. I said only if you make the changes Ive been asking for over the last year so that I can feel safe and have my basic needs met. They refused and we moved. We love our new home. I cant believe I lived in that house for an entire year. I know they manage for an owner, but I cant believe what they let him get away with under their management. We were good tenants who cared for the house and always paid rent on time.

One star is too many....i agree with everyone else...worst company ever...YALL NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER...EVERY SINCE I TOLD YALL I WASNT RENEWING MY LEASE ITS BEEN A PROBLEM...I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND YOUR COMPANY TO MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS....BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO SIGN SAYING IM BREAKING MY LEASE YALL PUT A FOR RENT SIGN...IT ALMOST LIKE YALL PUSHING ME OUT...MY THREE YEAR THERE I WOULD HAVE TO CALL SEVERAL OF TIMES TO GET SOMEONE TO FIX SOMETHING...POOR BUSINESS.....I PAID MY RENT ON TIME AND NEVER HAD A ISSUE BUT SINCE IM MOVING OUT YOU TREATING US LIKE WE DONe SOMETHING WRONG....AGAIN I WOULD NEVER RENT FROM YOUR COMPANY AND I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE TOO...YOUR COMPANY WILL NEVER GET MY MONEY AGAIN....I HAVE ONE MORE MONTH AND MY LEASE IS UP AND HAVE ALREADY MOVED OUT...THEY STILL WANT ME TO KEEP UTILITIES ON EVEN THO IM NOT LIVING THERE..NEVER HEARD OF THAT....THEY DONT CARE ABOUT ANYONE

One star is three too many.... After being shown a place for rent, I was told to fill out an online application and had to pay the back round check fee. So I did.... The very next day, i was told that the property was going to be rented to someone else. I asked if they had anything else for rent, since I filled out the necessary paper work and payed a lot of money for backround checks. I was told there was indeed a another place and I could come pick up the key to look at it. When I got to their office, they told me that I was not eligible to rent that place either because of my dog..... complete waste of time and money

We have had an excellent experience with Marchant Company. We are currently home renters while we have a home built and have been very pleased with the timely response we get from this management company and the property owner on any of the minor concerns we have had. The maintenance is completed by reputable service persons in a timely fashion and the Marchant staff is both friendly and professional. We especially like the Tenant online portal for rental payments and communication. We highly recommend Marchant Company.
