When Blockbuster was king, I Luv Video was still standing. Now the king has been busted and Netflix and Chill has stepped onto the throne. And yet still, I Luv Video remains... Why? Three things: 1) Selection. If I am not mistaken they have one of the largest collections of videos to rent anywhere in a brick and mortar location. They routinely refresh stock at customer suggestion and always surprise you. 2) Attitude. These people love movies. From the staff reviews plastered on cases to the employees almost endless knowledge, if you want a random recommendation, youll get a better shake than Netflixs robotic algorithms. 3) Devotion. One step into this place and you see why it is still standing. Movie memorabilia everywhere, literally on every available surface. And an unwavering policy towards film and customers, despite the fluctuations of other venues trends. One of the reasons I brag about living in Austin is I Luv Video. Its why I dont have a Netflix account. I grew up renting anime from this place when the only things you could find were imported VHS. I have paid thousands in late fees happily. I Liv Video is an Austin Icon, and youre not an Austinite unless you have a membership you use regularly. Period.

This is the video store to beat. I love I Luv VIdeo because it is a throwback to when browsing through the video store was an adventure. With two levels of movies, from VHS to DVD to Blu-ray, it would be tough to think of a movie that isnt on these shelves. This location really breaks titles down, so if you want a Martin Scorsese movie, he has his own section. As do a lot of the bigger name directors and even some who are just big in film loving circles. The traditional genre sections do exist, but you may need your A game to track down some titles. Yes, they are in alphabetical order, but with Employee Picks, an Austin Movies endcap, the Weird Wednesday section and others, there is a chance that DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK is not in the section youd think. Fortunately the laid back staff is always cool and willing to help out. There is also an adult section in this location for those who need something a bit more stimulating. I Luv Video really does have it all and should be supported by any movie fan in Austin.

Solid, solid movie store with a wide selection of classics, foreign and offbeat movies. I always have a good time browsing and generally find what I am looking for. Even if you dont find what you want, its a good time and has a quirky, fun atmosphere. I definitely recommend this place to movie buffs or anyone looking for a fun place to stop in. Pros and cons below. Pros: - Huge selection of titles. I even found Wake in Fright here. Who carries that? Awesome stores, thats who. - FREE BEER on Tuesdays! But at least tip. There may be other free days but none that Im aware of. - Rentals for 7 days. - Friendly staff and dog friendly if you want to take your dog in. - Good Miyazaki collection if youre into Studio Ghibli. - Theres a Comedy Club next door that looks pretty fun. Cons: - The place is pretty popular so titles can run out fast. Ive walked in here several times and left empty handed. Not their fault but I write it as a disclaimer. - Not the cheapest rentals. Can be upwards of $4.

Videos. Lots, and lots of videos. Good ones, bad ones, new ones, old ones, weird ones, if it exists and was on VHS/DVD, you can probably rent it here. Especially love the random comments on video cases from staff. Its almost an archeological dig at times, these comments have been stuck to some of these VHS long enough you can hardly make then out. But man, this place has a charm to it you cant beat. Renting movies is dirt cheap. Two bucks for a week, usually. Gets pricier for new stuff, but renting a new video here seems wrong. Come here and get something weird to watch on a lazy Sunday. Besides, what other place are you going to find "Miami Connection", "Lady Terminator", and that classic movie Disney tries to pretend never happened "Song of the South" all on the same shelf?

This is my local video store and I love it. I love the free beer night on Tuesdays, I love the incredible selection and the director wall, I love the little stickies on the DVD covers giving snarky opinions about the films youre renting, I love the friendly service filled with people who remember you, I love the Go Local 2 for 1 deal, and I love the low prices and lenient late fees. This is the kind of local video store people ought to support. As video stores close across the country, places like these that cater to movie fans and community-minded people should be thriving.

I have been renting videos at I Luv Video since 1996. Its a tremendous resource and purports to be the largest video rental store in the world. That might actually be the case. Its collection of video content is vast and comprehensive. They carry all the obvious mainstream fare, but also stock difficult-to-find obscure titles that you wont even be aware of. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. People who rent movies from a kiosk in front of the grocery store are handicapping their awareness of the world. Might as well be wearing blindfolds. I Luv Video is where its at!

GO HERE NOW. Its so rare to have such a well stocked video store in town and they deserve all the business they get. The staffs knowledge of movies is encyclopedic and theyre great at recommendations. If you like foreign films or old movies, youve just found your new favorite place, because their selection is amazing. They have a fairly reasonable rental timeframe and the late fees arent too bad. They also are dog friendly, and have beer on Fridays. What more could you want? Stop wasting time at a crappy Redbox in a parking lot and go support your local businesses

Im so glad places like this still exist, because I feel like browsing through rows and rows of movies is half the fun of movie night (its not quite the same on Netflix). The staff is always friendly, and you can find employee recommendations scattered around the store on various movie cases even if you dont directly ask someone for a recommendation. Ive never had trouble finding a movie I wanted to watch there, but if theres something youre dying to see that they dont have, you can add it to their list at the counter and theyll order it.

Youd think the prevalence of Netflix would have done away with video stores but the selection you get from this store is unmatched. Plus it makes a convenient alternative when you cant wait a day for your latest Netflix dvd to arrive. The staff leave helpful notes and theres categories that a traditional video store might not think of creating (Cult, Vampire, Sports Documentaries) that help you find the film youre looking for. The Directors section also helps you expand your knowledge of films.

I Luv Video has become a weekly event for me and my boyfriend. With free beer and pizza Tuesdays, free directors night Thursday (where you can rent TWO movies for free from that weeks featured director) and many other events throughout the week its so hard not to come every day! Not to mention everything is organized perfectly with hilarious reviews on the cover of some movies from employees. Gotta love I luv video.
