I have an old VW Bug I took to Pierces on the advice of all the San Antonio VW guys. I had it towed to his shop to have the engine lowered and head pulled to remove a screw that had dropped into the cylinder. This is much simpler than it sounds, reported to take a quality mechanic a couple of hours. After a few days sitting at the shop, I called him and received good news, nothing in the engine was damaged, and he had removed the screw. For this work, and a tune up, he charged me $500. I declined the crazy $180 quote for a rear brake job and $250 to adjust the rear suspension. I tried to dispute the excessive charges, but he went on to tell me how expensive it is to run a shop, not how many hours spent on the car. I gave him 2 stars because he was knowledgeable and friendly, up until he threatened to take me out back to settle the issue.

Pierce rebuilt a motor for my VW and its the best running engine Ive ever had. Ive owned over 70 air-cooled VWs so that is saying something. I had asked them to check a few other things on the car that they really didnt do well. When I called to let him know, he was completely apologetic and made up for the oversights with other work. He also was available on a Saturday for me to pick up my car outside of his normal business hours. Nice guy, knowledgeable, and a great engine builder. I only wish I still lived in San Antonio!

I first took a Porsche 914 engine to Pierce Automotive for Carburetor overhaul and a once over before installing it in a restored 914. Since I am a mechanic (and a know it all), I told John eactly how to do this...He corrected me, and offered a better, cheaper way to accomplish the task. He could have done exactly what I asked for and made more money, but he didnt...This IS the mark of an honest shop owner. He has even more of my business today!! and now I dont question his judgement! I highly recommend to all my friends.

I found Johns shop through the local VW club. I actually have a shop but dont work on older VWs. We had a customer that would not take her vehicle that had been sitting for a number of years to anybody but us. I let her know that I would take it to someone I felt I could trust. WOW! John did a great job, took care of all of our needs and did it in a very timely manner for a reasonable price. He was very honest and I would have no problem recommending him to anybody.

I took a Toyota in due to an overheating problem, and John had it back to me in a few days at a very reasonable price. Luckily, there was an inexpensive part at fault, and the charges reflected that. He could of convinced me that it was a more expensive issue, but he did not. That is a mark of an honest shop. Recommended.
