I was looking to ombre my hair and to even out a previous dye job. I researched online and found Shear Decadence. From the pictures of their ombre services advertised on the website, I felt good about selecting this salon. I was scheduled with Heather, who made me feel confident in her ability to color hair. I explained to her that I was only interested in dying the ends of my hair, as I was growing out my natural hair color at the top. She agreed, but after processing the first round of dye, my hair looked similar to that of a skunk. There was no transition. Heather and I both agreed that it wasnt right. She explained that because I have thick hair, it was difficult for a natural transition to occur. I was a little perplexed as to why she would perform the service on me knowing that, but gave her the benefit of the doubt. She immediately went into fix-it mode, and began a second round of hi-lights to correct it. However, after bleaching my hair for a second time, the skunk effect remained the same. So, Heather agreed to correct it for a third time. I found myself really impressed with how hard she was working to get me to be happy with my hair, instead of letting me leave unhappy. However, I would soon find out that this was a facade. After the 3rd round of bleach, my once naturally brunette hair was mostly platinum blonde. I put on a brave face. All of the girls working were gushing over how good it turned out. At this point, I had been there for 5 hours so I was ready to leave. I was horrified by how blonde it was, but I decided that it could be a good change. Upon further inspection, however, I have noticed how uneven it is. It is far from the ombre affect I wanted. Their website advertises ombre as a $65 service. When I went to pay, I was charged $175. I was horrified. I am a college student, and was planning on paying for it myself. When I inquired why it was so much, Heather told me it was for all of the bowls of bleach she had to use. She did not mention an additional charge. I felt as if the 3 girls working were ganging up on me, so I timidly protested. Heather begrudgingly reduced it to $125. This was after the girls passive-aggressively complaining about how many bills they have to pay, yet they were happy to con a 19 year old who makes 7.50 an hour out of all their money. Heather, at a couple of points, excused this by assuming my mom would just pay for the service. The girls working in the salon went on and on telling me to never leave the salon unsatisfied, yet they were happy to con me out of money I didnt have. My hair is now ruined and my bank account is overdrawn. I wish I had been more assertive, but I felt pressured by everyone who was working there. Because I am a young college student, they felt it was okay to take advantage of me. One of the girls kept telling me to write a nice review online, so heres your review. Dont trick someone into ruining their hair if you know that a service wont work on them. Dont charge someone for the mistakes youve made. If you are young and go to a salon without your parent, be sure to be assertive. Do not let anyone take advantage of you. I made the mistake of being too timid. I shouldnt have given them my money. EDIT: I would like to say that, Michael, the owner, gave me a call upon seeing my review and reversed the charges, as well as offering to personally fix my hair free of charge. His honesty and willingness to make things right is very much appreciated.

Until recently I have not been able to find a genuine hair stylist. Please understand that I am extremely particular when it comes to choosing a hair salon and stylist. Location, salon hours, salon attitude, salon quality, and salon service, are all things I consider when choosing a hair salon. If I am paying a stylist to do my hair, I have high expectations. I want a professional, well educated stylist, that is passionate about their job, as well as giving their clients great service. Over the years, I have had horrible luck in almost every salon in Tyler. I would leave disappointed with my hair cut, color and service. I had honestly just given up hope in finding a good salon. So, I took it upon myself to start doing my own hair. . . Right before Spring Break I had decided I wanted to do something “different” to my hair. After a few trips to Sallys and several YouTube videos later, I was convinced that I could teach myself how to balayage my own hair. I am cursed with impatience. After bleaching my hair multiple times and still not seeing the results I desired. I ended up with orange, striped, fried hair. It was awful!!! I had caused more damage to my hair in one week, than in the past 5 years. FINALLY, after researching salons I was EXTREMELY blessed to find Shear Decadence. You cannot find service like this anymore! Shear Decadence is everything Ive wanted in a hair salon and more. I came to this salon for an emergency hair fix. I was so worried that the damage I had caused that my hair would be unfixable. I am proclaiming Mr. Micheal Risher as the hair messiah. Once I sat down in his chair, I knew I was in good hands. Micheal saved my hair! Not only is my hair healthy and shinier than its ever been, but the cut and color turned out amazing. I am speechless with the results. Ive never met a more professional, well educated and entertaining hair stylist. I have so much respect for Micheal and his salon team. Shear Decadence definitely exceeded my expectations for a hair salon.

I just moved to Tyler and after looking around the web for a good place to get a hair cut I decided on Shear Decadence. Scheduling the appointment was incredibly easy and I was pleased to get several text messages reminding me when the appointment was. When I went there I was greeted by incredibly friendly staff and a happy work environment, not only was the shop itself very cute designed beautifully, but also everyone there seemed to love their job and were incredibly nice and welcoming. Kyle shampooed me and gave me a very nice scalp massage, she was very sweet and nice to talk to! Heather was my main stylist, I arrived a little early and was able to see her finish curling the hair of her previous client, whom she had just done a nice mermaid-like teal ombre on (After seeing that I was very excited to be working with her!) She was also very nice and easy to talk to, and was great with explaining the products she was using in my hair and suggesting to me what products and techniques would work best to style my hair. When she was finished cutting my hair she curled beautifully as well, I left very pleased with it! Needless to say Ill be back when I need my next haircut, and Ill definitely be dropping in to dye my hair as soon as I can. Great experience!

I have been a customer of the Shear Decadence Salon since it opened and specifically a customer of Michael Risher for almost 12 years. I have spent many hours in his chair and never have I heard him speak disrespectfully about any customers or employee. He is a gentleman who is concerned about his customers satisfaction and his employees well being. Michael is certified as a master colorist by several well-known companies and has worked as a platform artist for them. I am very specific about the color of my hair; I want it to look similar to when I was a natural redhead. Yesterday I met a beautician with 60 years experience in the business, and without prompting, she said my haircolor was so natural looking and asked what product was used and who did it. I think that is a great comment on Michaels expertise. I have also seen him work miracles "fixing" other beauticians mistakes. Just today I visited the shop for my monthly "cut and color." I couldnt be more pleased. Michael listened to my ideas for about a new hair style and made a few minor modifications based on my face shape, my hair texture and my hairs growth patterns. The result is perfect. I look like a natural redhead with a great haircut! I couldnt ask for more.
