Ive been with this gym since just after it opened (Going on three years now). I worked for Sizzler for a while and would do healthy promotions with local gyms around the area so I got a ton of free memberships and trials. I can say without a doubt that Skills is by far the best gym in the area for what it offers. Four Pillar is directed to those who want a personal trainer from beginning to end (John does a great job and takes really good care of his customers), Anytime Fitness is for those who just want to work out with no frills, Golds is for those who want to get seriously bulked up with others who are similar minded, the South Davis Rec Center is a joke of a gym ( way dirty, the lockers are way too hot and steamy, and the equipment is in awful shape), and the soon to be Planet Fitness are for those who arent comfortable working out (a Judgement Free Zone, yeah right...). The equipment is in working order and any issues are resolved very quickly. The only issues are in the mens locker room, occasionally the steam room will not be working (they are getting a new part so the issues will be nill, as they told me) or the hot tub jets wont work or will be stuck on. These are minor inconveniences to me as they arent the core reason for me being there. The gym itself is very clean, Jeff does a good job at keeping the place clean. The free weights are always organized and even the plates are almost always organized on all the different benches. They have cleaning wipes all over the place so everyone usually cleans after they are done. The towel service is a definite plus! For a while they would always run out (but they would look for you and get you a towel when they did get some) however I havent had that issue lately. There are many other positive parts about this place that I dont really take advantage of, such as the great classes included in the membership, the hidden room in the back hallway with crossfit equipment and a punching bag, the cycling room, yoga room, as well as the nutrition center. The only complaint I really have is that they arent open on Sundays, I wouldnt have to have two gym memberships if they were open on Sundays! As per many previous reviews, Big Rick wasnt as awful as most people say he is. He would be walking about the gym asking his guests how things were and he would interact with all the employees. As someone with many years of management experience I can tell you how important it is to me to have a manager on the floor running the show as much as possible. I could tell he had a darker side however I never saw it myself. The new manager, while always there, is rarely ever seen walking about. He does make it a point to smile and talk to the members however. I usually see Paul walking about and checking on things as well as greeting you at the entrance. Overall great gym and I recommend anyone at any fitness level to join! -Nick

The center itself is great, the classes were enjoyable and I never had a hard time getting on equipment. My issue with the gym is primarily with the booking/management. While I realize that I could have caught my issue and resolved it early I also feel they could have contacted me right away. In November of last year my credit/debit card was lost or stolen and I had to get a new card. I remembered to change my card with every place that I do business but forgot to contact Skills. Then I went into the gym in February to put a hold on my account because I was having financial problems and needed to save the that money each month. I filled out the paperwork and left believing my account was in good standing and would be for 6 months until I could decide if I wanted to continue my membership. Then this last week I received a bill from Skills for $120 for December, January, February and Marchs fees. They hadnt suspended my account because I owed money, which I was not informed of when I went into the gym in February to put the hold on my account. The bill not only came as a surprise but it also stated that if not paid in full immediately it would be sent to collections. Seems like a crappy way to do business. I will be going in to pay this off and cancel my membership and I will let everyone know how horrible I was treated.

Update 3/05/17 Skills D/C fitness has turned to the darkside. Let me put it to you in an analogy form. Its like a well respected business man giving his Aston Martin DB9 to his jock teenager son. The first thing the kid did was to take all prestige, detail, class and thrown in the trash. To replaced for an Auto Zone testosterone loud droning exhaust. The hand stiched leather seats removed for Walmart "racing seats", then the refined lotus engineered suspension removed for Submit Racing coil-over springs. So now all you have left is a luxury street ricer that wont be serviced by the dealer and laughed at by the valet driver. Their website is always wrong and outdated or misinformation and basically fundamentally lacking. Basically the new owners D/C fitness vision is to turn an Opera house into a Monster Truck arena. If you drink "Brotein" drinks and wear t-shirts with sleeves cut off, drive a 60k diesel construction truck and dont mind spitting on floors this gym is for you. If you dont fit into that mold, go to one of the three new gyms that have sprung up since Skills Fitness turned into D/C fitness.

If you are struggling with your fitness goals and just dont know where to begin,Skills Fitness will fill the bill. I am in my fifties and just cant do what I could do in my twenties. I went to Pilates taught by Helina and it strenghthened my core and gave me more flexibility . Helina also helped me as a personal trainer to see where my weaknesses were. She helped me to balance my activities and strenghthen myself. I am able to go to the body pump classes again and do group weight lifting with Kyle on Mondays and Ashley and Emily on Wednesdays. They are excellent teachers who have helped me with form . They are positive and encouraging. I have increased my muscle mass and decreased my fat. All documented with the technology at the gym that measures progress. I love this gym . It is also a great social outlet . The members and staff are extra friendly.

I had a very similar experience to what Stephanie Smith describes in her post regarding the management. It used to be a great place when I signed up four years ago, but they have since lost their personal touch that made them so great. Its all about the mighty dollar now. They enroll more members than their facility can accommodate. Its difficult to get a spot in their classes so you have to come 15 minutes early to get in. Frequently equipment is broken and or poorly maintained and takes months of repeatedly reporting the problems before they are repaired. The theater room is also frequently out of order and they employ staff that is young and inexperienced. Im saddened and disappointed with my recent experience with them. Beware, they are not all that their shiny exterior portrays them to be.
