on 2/10/12 I went in to get Japanese Hair Straightening. I should have been skeptical since the price was very inexpensive. I was okay with the fact my hair stylist (blonde hair, male, Korean) who never introduced himself didnt speak English. He was polite and the treatment took over 5 hours, so I tipped him accordingly ($60). I washed my hair two days after the treatment as instructed and was in horror to discover a lot of my hair had broken off. To make matters worse a lot of my hair had broken 1/8 of an inch from the root around the crown of my head. So now the back of my head/crown of my head resembles and feels like a buzz cut. On 2/15 I called a little frantically and wanted to know if there was anything I could do to stop the hair from continuing to break off. The women who answered the phone said she would have to call me back.. of course I didnt get a call. So today (2/21) I called to follow up and they didnt seem to understand what I was talking about, but It was the stylist who worked on my hair, so I figured Id go in and talk to him and show him the damage and see if he had any explanation and could help ease the damage. I left work, drove over to the salon and showed him that I now have hair resembling a buzz cut on the top of my head. He sat me down without explaining what he was doing or how long it would take. He put something on part of the my hair and then flat ironed it in. He said it was deep conditioner when I asked. I asked him if he should be putting heat on my already damaged hair, and he didnt understand what I was asking. Then he just walked away and continued working with his client. He didn;t give me any instructions, apologize or anything. I asked the receptionist and she said "Im just a helper." I asked her to ask my stylist and to translate what I was suppose to do about all of the prickly hairs sticking up out of my scalp. She translated and said that he said "IT IS OKAY". NO-- IT IS NOT OKAY!! IT IS NOT OKAY TO CHARGE SOMEONE TO BURN OFF THEIR HAIR AND THEN NOT OFFER ANY COMPENSATION, EXPLANATION OR EVEN A LITTLE REMORSE. PLEASE do not let these people near your hair with any chemicals. Mistakes happen -- I am an understanding person. But the way they handled this was ridiculous which makes me think I am not the first person who had a problem, especially since no one working there seemed surprised or worried that they had completely burned/broken off huge chunks of my hair. BEWARE.

Where did my review go?? Oh well, Ill just to write a new one. Here goes... I had a disastrous hair trim from a chain hair cutting place last week. It was the first time I was disappointed with the result. I had my hair done with them in March and I was happy then but not this time. I was planning my annual visit at Kim Sun Young next month, but after what happened I couldnt put it off any longer. I have been to their L.A., Chicago and New York locations so I was confident that if anyone can fix the damage done, it would be them. My first visit to this location was last September. I have to admit I wasnt sure if I was going to get the same quality of service because for some reason, their location is not mentioned in the website. I found out yesterday that this location is a franchise and is now under a new management. I was quite satisfied at how my hair came out last year so franchise or company-owned, doesnt matter to me as long as they continue to give great service to their clients. The new hair stylist who did my perm definitely knows what hes doing. The straightening process usually takes about 3 to 4 hours on my hair but it only took him 2 hours. Well, I guess one reason why it didnt take as long was because my hair was shorter and was already thinned out this time. But you can still tell how professional he is by the way he works and how quick he fixed the hair cut problem. Thanks again, Eric! See you in a few months! =)

As a korean-american who grew up in southern california I was used to great korean hair stylists. I was in a panic for a stylist when I moved to the DC area b/c I could not find someone good and reliable, until Kim Sun Young opened up. Ive gotten several "magic straight" perms and have changed things up with a digital perm recently. I have been very happy with the quality of their services. I go back regularly. I get many compliments on my hair regardless of what style I go with. I give them creative control and I always walk out looking great.

Terrible. I had to return three times for them to fix my hair. I should have taken it as warning that all three times I was there, the only customers were men. They permed my hair twice (both times it failed) and did a brazilian (which also failed). My hair is still damaged despite having cut off 4 inches. I will never return.

Ive recently gone here to get a digital perm, and I liked exactly how it had turned out! They had great service and I like how they had a waiting room with a big screen tv and food and coffee to drink. I would recommend to my friends and family.
