I can only describe the Charlottesville USPS as utterly incompetent. I cant even begin to explain the logistics of their badly mishandled effort to deliver a package to me. Here are the highlights: 1) Termed a package "undeliverable as addressed" because I had moved from the previous address, despite the fact that I had filed a timely change of address form in compliance with their policies. I asked if they did anything to let me know that the package as undeliverable as addressed, i.e., why did they keep trying to deliver it but never contact me to resolve the problem? They said that they typically leave a note on the door where the package is undeliverable. I asked how they could possibly know which door to leave the note on, given that the package cannot be delivered. Blank stare. 2) Left multiple, virtually incomprehensible voice messages because they were so garbled by the person on the other end of the line slurring or eating the phone or something. 3) Never left me a call back # on any of the phone messages, and the phone number they called from doesnt accept incoming calls. 4) Never rectified (3) despite my repeated requests to do so. 5) Referred me to an automated system for customer service complaints at their national hotline, which endlessly looped me in a phone tree. It was not possible to speak to a real human being, no matter which series of options I selected. 6) Picked up on the phone on 1 out of 12+ efforts to contact them at both their main office on 29 or their satellite offices, across a week. 7) No one in their satellite offices would take any responsibility for resolving this issue. 8) They directed me to someone at the main Charlottesville office whos job is to resolve complaints like mine. She told me that she "didnt want to get involved" because she didnt have the full information, and that she would have the person who gurgled into my voicemail call me back the next day and leave a call back #. She didnt. 9) Based on what I understand the latest voicemail to say, they gave my package to someone else by mistake at the regional office. So, someone who walked into the office was given my missing package and allowed to leave with it. I would guess that the postal workers did not check ID, but frankly, even if they had, I have zero confidence that they would notice that his name did not match the name on the package. I have never dealt with such a dysfunctional and backwards organization. This experience has been a more disjointed version of Catch-22. I strongly discourage anyone from using the Charlottesville USPS and I will never ship nor receive anything from them again if it is within my human power. I have had many satisfactory dealings with the Nashville USPS, and I dont believe I am an unreasonable consumer. I have sought to resolve my issue through multiple channels and I have been deflected or simply ignored at every turn. If even one person among the six Charlottesville USPS employees I have spoken to had expressed even the slightest sympathy for my predicament, I would not have written this review. Each one passed the buck or simply ignored my requests for information. Neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night, but what about sheer apathy?

After seven years of receiving packages at this business address, it has twice randomly showed up as an undeliverable address and my packages get routed back. In both cases I tracked the package discovering it never left the post office when it was decared undeliverable. Calling to solve this issue, I am not routed to the post office, but to a call center. After being on hold for 45 minutes, I have to endure a "robo operator" routing me to options that range from barely applicable to completely irrelevant, I get to speak with a "bureaucratic jobsworth" drone who can ramble off tracking and case numbers incoherently and faster than anyone could hope to write it down, but yet cannot comprehend a tracking or phone number no matter how slowly, clearly and deliberately you try to communicate them. I have items sent to my business specifically to avoid this issue. To make matters worse, I was informed that the post person could not deliver to the neighboring business should they, for whatever reason, deliver after hours for liability reasons, but could leave my package on my doorstep where it could be stolen. The call center lackey informed me they could only do this if I gave specific directions. I explained that I shouldnt have to give directions making up for the incompetence of their staff as there is never any reason why it would be undeliverable to my address during normal operation hours.

Terrible, rude service just as the other reviews say. No wonder FedEx and UPS are doing better. First of all, they NEVER ever answer the phone there, I have called on different days of the week and at different times of the day, never an answer. The recording should just say, "we dont care about your business, just hang up and go to FedEx." We receive live chickens once per month through this office, on the box it says call upon receiving, with our phone number. They never call us, these are LIVE animals were dealing with, the longer they sit at the post office, the lower the survivability rate. So, weve just started showing up at the office on the day they should arrive. They say, we tried calling you and left a message. They obviously do not know how to use a phone or are just plain lying because we never receive a call. I have double checked, the number on the box is correct and our answering machine/phone works. I wish we could get our chickens shipped though a different office, but its not possible, I have asked. One time picking up chickens, they said, oh, tell so and so to go get them off of the back loading dock. This was late winter! It was cold outside! They left them outside until I came. LAME. USPS, please fix this office, it sucks.

Ive had good experiences with this post office: once, because of a miscommunication, a friend used USPS to send me Christmas cookies when I wanted her to send it FedEx for pick-up (perishables and weather are not good friends) and as such had given her the FedEx address. Anyway, the people here helped me track down the cookies within a day, which I really appreciated. But! The bad experiences far outweigh the good ones. Ive had to contact them multiple times for not delivering or picking up at my work, which is a major deal for our business. Dont try to call them--it never works. Ever. It just rings and rings and rings. And, if I remember right, theres not a voicemail to leave a message either. When Ive gone in to let them know that while I totally understand not being able to get to us before 5pm, we need to at least get our mail and get ours out. Their answer, that weather can delay delivery and postal carriers cant stay out too late, was really just deflecting---it was a perfectly fine day before. The only way I resolved my issue was calling up the chain to the regional office, which pressured them into taking our complaint seriously.

Was planning to write a bad review. But there are already plenty of them. So kind of feel lucky after reading these reviews. To cut it short, I can say that I can go to Richmond Zoo (46 miles from there) and bring 2 monkeys in my van - they can definitely do better work and with the cost of 5 bananas a day. The reason I gave 2 stars is - after 15-20 mins of searching - the lady was able to find my mail sent from USCIS and priority mail... Cannot believe a post office not being able to find a mail. Last time she smiled would be 1995 or so. I called toll free number (obviously cause they never pickup phones) and was told that I will have mail waiting at this post office. They said they will have to find it - whatever 800 number says, is never guaranteed. Plus the status of the mail now says that the mail was delivered to the address given - total lie. Anywyas, spend some extra money and use FedEx or UPS... TIme has come we start using them more than USPS.
