My fiancee and I were interested in taking dance lessons to prepare for our wedding reception (to even say I have two left feet would be very generous). She did some searching online and found Fred Astaire, who had a special going for 2 private, introductory lessons for $50, which seemed right up our alley to get the basics down and not embarrass ourselves too badly. We showed up and got introduced to Sevrin, our instructor, whose enthusiasm was instant and infectious. Sevrin helped us relax and really embrace the experience rather than simply "going through the motions." We had such a good time and learned a lot in those first 2 introductory classes that we signed up for more classes (package of 4 private, 2 group lessons). The extra classes were well worth it, Sevrin taught us new moves to make our first dance even more special, including spins, dips, and different types of steps that we could use to help it feel more natural. On top of our first dance song (rumba) we learned fox trot and swing and even the intro moves for salsa and waltz. Even after we did all our classes, we had such a great time we signed up for even more! Truly a wonderful experience, especially for couples to spend some quality time together away from all the distractions of everyday life. The staff is wonderful, the instructors know how to teach as well as they know how to dance, the studio has plenty of space, and the location is super convenient right off Lee Hwy. Would absolutely recommend Fred Astaire for anyone looking to improve your skills on the dance floor...even if youve never thought about dance lessons before its a great experience that you wont regret!

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Fairfax, Virginia, is by far the finest dance studio on the East Coast. The owners, Jim and Maria, are top notch, and are also spectacular dancers. The instructors are the most highly skilled I have ever observed and have had the opportunity to learn from in a formal setting. The Studio offers all the great classics, to include the Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Hustle, Salsa, Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Bolero, and Mambo, to name but a few. The Studio’s Manager, Missy, provides great direction, focus, and administrative skills in ensuring the Studio remains as highly successful as it is, and it shows. The place is immaculate, the dance floor is beautiful, lessons start and end on time, the customers always have a smile on their face, the instructors are highly professional, and everyone is treated with a great deal of respect. Throughout the week, there are dance parties or group lessons every night where you get to dance with others, laugh and truly enjoy yourself. If you keep coming back, you will soon feel as though you are part of a close-knit family. Oh, did I mention that Missy is an original Ginger Rogers or maybe a Katusha Demidova:-)) In any event, she is as graceful on the dance floor as she is behind a desk, and of course is an incredible choice to have as your instructor. If you want to learn from the best, this Studio should be your first choice.

My husband and I went to Fred Astaire to get ready for our wedding dance starting in March 2013. We were really nervous starting out because neither of us have particularly good rhythm and we didnt have a lot of time, but all of the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable; they genuinely want to help you learn and use little tricks to make the steps easier to remember and more relatable. We were very prepared for our wedding dance, which was a Rumba, and loved the studio so much, we signed up for another dance package to learn additional dances, including Salsa and the Hussle. Our instructor, Severin, is awesome. He keeps the lesson light and fun and still makes sure were progressing. The studio manager, Missy, is also really great and will sit in on lessons to provide guidance and make sure you are getting what you expect. The packages give you access to both individual (private) and group lessons. The group lesson schedule is varied and gives an opportunity to learn in a different environment, and to increase your skill by learning to dance with other people. Dont be intimidated. There are a lot of really good dancers that come in to the studio, but everyone started somewhere! The other students and all of the instructors are really encouraging, so you feel like you are making progress and not "just a beginner." We highly recommend this studio!!

I first went to the Fred Astaire Dance Studio when I needed to have someone help me choreograph a campy dance routine for a birthday party. Although I was not doing a ballroom routine, Katya helped my brother and I accomplish what we wanted, and our routine was a hit at the party. I had so much fun at the studio, that I signed up for some ballroom classes. That was over a year ago, and I have been a regular student since then. I had some previous ballroom experience from another local franchise, but did not continue as I was dissatisfied with the quality of instruction, attention from the staff, and intimidation of beginning dancers by the more advanced dancers. The staff at Fred Astaire Dance Studio is great. I have worked with all of them - Jason, Kenan, Sevrin, Katya, Missy, Merisa - love them all! They are willing to design a program to fit your needs, instead of just following a set program. The dance floor is great, and there is plenty of parking. The students are all very friendly, and dancers at all levels are encouraged to participate. Its a lot of fun and great exercise. Thanks to Jason, I now get asked to dance whenever I go out, and feel confident out on the floor!

My husband and I have been happy customers at Fred Astaire since it opened five years ago. We were looking for a reasonably priced studio, a dynamite dance floor, knowledgeable instructors in a nurturing environment, and fellow dancers with whom we enjoyed socializing. We got it all in spades! In fact, the instructors are as much a part of the social atmosphere as the students—no hovering in the staff room between appointments for them. And the instruction is tailored to your wishes, too. If you want to learn a lot of steps in a short period of time, that’s what you’ll get. If you want to compete in local or national shows, you can focus on that. If your interest is in refining your technique with the steps you already have, there are some brilliant technicians to help with that. Or you can ask to do it all. The choice is yours. Group classes and party nights provide additional opportunities to learn and practice your developing skills with other dancers. As with the show “Dancing With the Stars,” you’ll find that dancing here is for people of every age and body shape. Everyone is welcome, and everyone participates.

I got lucky when I drove past the Fred Astaire Studio on Lee Hwy one day and saw their sign, I had been thinking about learning to dance for some time and had tried a few different studios in the past but found them to be a little unfriendly and focused on what they could take from you and not what they could give to you. This studio is different, all the staff are relaxed, friendly, gracious, patient but above all talented! They have a great atmosphere and offer a great program for all levels and tailor each program to the individual and not one size fits all attitude they also offer many opportunities to perform and show off your new found skills. Their teaching style is simply brilliant in the way they make dancing seem effortless and beautiful. If your thinking about giving dancing a whirl for health reasons, stress reasons or just for fun you would be doing yourself a disservice not to try Fred Astaire first.
