Eight months ago I walked in the doors of Catoctin CrossFit filled with anxiety and reluctance. My husband convinced me to give it one month just to see if I would like it and I am eternally grateful I accepted his challenge. After having 4 children in less than 6 years I had let my fitness level drop off to next to nothing. I would dabble in yoga and other gym activities but I found nothing I wanted to stick with until Catoctin CrossFit. Excuses always took me away from the commitment to myself and my health. I now look back on February 4th, the day I walked in CCF for the first time, as my “birthday” because my life changed that day. The coaches, in particular Zach, made me feel like he wanted me there and wanted to see me improve each and every time I stepped through the doors of CCF. Despite the multiple levels of athletes there, I never felt out of place. The atmosphere of CCF kept me wanting to go back for that first month and every day since then. People have commented on the change in me and I always contribute it to CCF. Since joining CCF I have gained confidence in myself, met amazing individuals I now consider dear friends, and found an overall greater joy in my life as a mom and wife. Catoctin CrossFit is designed for all people and as a mom of 4 young children, with years and years of inactivity, I am proof anyone and everyone is welcomed, embraced, and challenged beyond belief.

I have been coming to Catoctin CrossFit for 2 years. Zach Thew, owner and trainer is an incredible coach and has provided a great platform to promote better health and wellbeing for the community. Prior to joining the CrossFit family, I was athletic, grew up working out in regular gyms. As I’ve gotten older and moved away from traditional 2-hour gym workouts, I began trying several different programs. Everything from P90X, Insanity to running and biking. I was looking for a program to combine both strength training and cardio that would fit into my daily routine. When I originally heard about CrossFit, I was not a big fan. My initial thoughts were, I will never be a CrossFitter, it’s bad for your body, too many people get hurt, and why are these people so pushy? Flash forward two years. Now I totally get what all the hype is about. The CrossFit community brings people together with a common goal to maximize their health and fitness. It is a phenomenal group of individuals that will motivate and push you to new limits while cheering you on along the way. CrossFitters are not pushy, just really passionate and want to share their accomplishments. I have really enjoyed being invited into the CrossFit family. Whether you are new to working out or a seasoned athlete, give it try, you will be addicted.

Zach Thew of Catoctin Crossfit has the best fitness program of all the Crossfit locations I have experienced around the country as well as the around the world since I began 2.5 years ago. When I travel I remain in locations for months at a time so I get very familiar with programs at other boxes. Zachs programming is the most interesting and makes me stronger than all of the other places I have been. Crossfit really is for everyone as it can be scaled to your current ability. The coaches are knowledgeable and helpful and the other members of Catoctin really motivate and support. The Life Changing Fitness tag line is for real....not only am I very aware of my overall improved fitness and general good mood but everyone I encounter comments on my healthy looking physique and attitude. There is a youthful vibe as there are so many skills I did naturally as a child. I consider myself athletic and enjoy challenges. This is the only "workout" program I have ever enjoyed or stayed with. I make it part of my life wherever I am. I really cant recommend Catoctin Crossfit enough!

About a year ago, I walked into Catoctin Crossfit after many years of lurking at the gym or running when the weather got nice. And if being super irregular in really working out. I was never really an athlete growing up. The coaches and atmosphere at Catoctin Crossfit are simply great! Zach has done a great job both meeting me where I am and challenging me to push myself each time I walk into the box. My fellow athletes (because hey, thats what you are if you crossfit!) have a positive attitude and encourage me constantly. The classes and the coaches will teach you something new every time you are there...and you know what? Youll have fun! What other fitness program is fun one year after doing it? Its tough and it is a challenge, but it is definitely for everyone and it is especially for people who have never had the chance to have the help of someone to take fitness seriously. The worse thing you can do is not give this place a chance. The biggest risk youll take trying it out is being convinced that fitness is fun.

Its been about two and a half years Ive been hitting up Catoctin Crossfit. Ok. Never thought Id write that. Id heard about Crossfit (thought...yup...that looks crazy and Ill get hurt...). I walked into Catoctin and Zach showed enthusiasm and interest in what I could and wanted to do. I was sore as anything for about a month, but the challenging but creative workouts kept me coming back. So did the community—some days I want to walk in there, put my head down, and just do the work. Thats cool and that works. Other days I want to smile and laugh with familiar and new faces. And thats great as well. Catoctin has been not just great for my health and fitness, but also a really good way to meet awesome people in the area. Give it a try. You wont regret it.

I joined CCF about six months ago and since joining have seen amazing results. I have lost weight, gained confidence in my fitness capabilities, made some great friendships, and feel healthy and strong. Zach has brought an amazing community of athletes into his facility. You always feel at home, welcomed, and rarely overwhelmed as Zach and his coaches do a fantastic job working with new and veteran athletes. I would recommend Zachs programming to anyone, of any age, regardless of athletic ability or training history. You will find, as I have, that CCF draws you in and becomes addictive. Each day is new and each athlete is working against the same programming. Simply and amazing experience.

I started Catoctin CrossFit in January of 2014. I wanted a challenge and that is what got. I was hooked from day one even though most things were foreign to me and it was hard. Id never used a barbell before and had a difficult time squatting. Zach made it all seem doable. His patience is amazing. Exercise was not a priority for me for most of my life but Zach and CCF changed that. Now at 44, I can say Im in the best shape of my life and it only continues to improve. Thats the wonderful thing about CrossFit, everything is measurable. You see it in better/deeper squats, faster times and higher weights. CCF is a great place with the most supportive people and wonderful coaches.

I have been athletic my whole life...nothing has ever challenged me like CrossFit. I love it. I have old soccer injuries and with instruction from the coaches, we modify certain exercises so I can still get in a great workout. I turned 41 this year and Im stronger than Ive ever been. I actually look forward to working out. My husband and teenage son and daughter also work out at CCF. The atmosphere is great and we all support each other. Youll make some great friends at Catoctin CrossFit!
