I would like to give Reston Sport and Health 5 stars. I’ve been very pleased with the staff and facility. The front desk staff are friendly, the custodial staff seem constantly in motion keeping the place clean, my trainer is outstanding, and the classes I’ve used have been very effective in helping achieve my fitness goals. They have an excellent range of equipment, largely well maintained. Other members working out there are respectful of others. The reason I withhold that fifth star may seem very minor, and it is, but minor like a tiny sharp stone in one’s shoe when walking. Every 15 minutes for a period of 30 seconds, all day long and every day, a “tune” breaks into the music playing on the PA system, and it seems often to be at higher volume than the regular background music. It’s hard to describe the sound. Maybe “sappy”?? In any case, it’s intrusive and very, very annoying. I estimate I’ve heard it at least 500 times over the past year or so. I have contacted S&H management about it, but they seem unwilling to reduce the frequency or stop it all together. I’m told that it’s intended to “advertise” their TNT fitness program. I think people are well aware of the TNT program—there’s a large, conspicuous poster about TNT, and an attractive area set off in the general workout area for people in the program. Effective advertising is supposed to make a positive association between the advertisement and what someone is trying to sell. As I, and other members and staff I’ve heard complain about, this “tune” has very negative associations. Why management refuses to listen and stop the “tune” is beyond my understanding.

I joined this gym last year and ended up leaving the gym as I needed to travel out of the country for several months. After attempting to contact membership services, I emailed them to cancel my contract specifically stating that I knew I was responsible for the cancellation fee. They responded by asking me again if I wanted to cancel my membership, and I again sent an email telling them to cancel my membership. They did not, and continued to charge me. After contacting the manager of the club directly, he would take care of it and would refund the money to my account, as it was clear I wanted to cancel my membership. However, he failed to contact me and I was eventually contacted by membership services via email stating that I did not effectively communicate my cancellation and that I was responsible for paying up until the end of my term. This is a dishonest practice that is completely unacceptable, and it is NOT the first time it has happened if your pursue through the comments below. I am appalled by the customer service and their treatment of my situation. I would highly recommend avoiding this club for this reason alone. That said, aside from the customer service issue, I did not like this club personally, as I felt it was not clean. Specifically, I brought my own towel to wipe of machines as they were either dirty or sweat ridden, which most clubs could address by not charging money for towels. Instead you have to pay one dollar for a towel, which most people dont do so they just leave the machines wet with sweat.

Stay away from this club !!! my friend and I used to be a member and it is a nightmare for us. They make it extremely easy to join, they offer free month and etc. After you join, you will find that the service is hit or miss. The new staffs are usually more friendly than the old one. The sales people are changing face so you might not see the people who sign you up in case there is something you need from him.And the manager is the worst and seems not to care about customer first rules at all. I am in the service business as well and I learn that if the head is bad, everything cant be good. The facilities is not very clean because of its age, The Jacuzzi is sometimes almost as hot as boiling water. The steam room is broken from time to time and it is so dirty with the lots of mold so breath in and breath out is your optional. To cancel, you will have to call their center which I hardly understand why they make it like that. If they are willing to sign us up so bad, they should not have any problem signing us out. By the way, you will talk to automatic system if you want to cancel and they make it very hard and annoying to cancel. My friend is still having problem with his credit card being charge after the cancel. Do not leave the phone number or they will keep calling you to join no matter it is your work time or early morning. I know that they work on commission but I think they should leave the joining choice to customer rather than keep calling us. It is not something that should do telemarketing.

Although I am within the last few days of my membership, I must say, it has been a pleasure being a member of Sport and Health. The staff is courteous, the trainers are friendly, the maintenance staff is constantly wiping down equipment and no matter what time of day, there seems to be enough equipment for everyone to exercise in harmony. The only thing that could be improved is, the jump ropes are bit too short and light weight. Yes, thats minor and doesnt take away from the many pluses that makes Sport and Health a nice gym where one can accomplish their fitness goals. Its a shame that the negative reviews from 2+ years ago dont fall off because from the reviews Ive read to what I have experienced, this gym must have made and incredible turn around in all areas. Id challenge anyone to give his gym a chance and experience an organized team of people that work hard to prove that Sport and Health is one of the cleanest and best gyms in Reston. I was impressed when I joined and to the day, my opinion remains the same.

When I visited the first time they gave me a week pass and I was very pleased, the gym is always clean, the staff is kind, there is plenty parking space. Im giving only 2 stars, because when I joined to the gym the associate offered me a promotion where the first month would be free if I sign for a 2 year contract, which I did. So far 2 months have passed and Ive been charged on those occasions, I have sent emails to the associate asking the status of the free month, asking if now with the changed of name if they will keep the promotion for the one I signed for and she said everything will be as promised, but it wasnt, as of now I havent been offered any solution for this situation. Also something else they dont mentioned when you join, is there is a annual fee (additional to the inscription) equivalent to a monthly charge, for improving the equipment, which Im OK with the charge but they dont mentioned it. So at this moment I feel very disappointed of old Sports & Health now OneLife.

I have been a member for over 10 years. While it hasnt been perfect, this last year has been an absolute nightmare. After dealing with 7 months of construction debris in the air, we now no longer have air conditioning. The AC has been out in the 1) locker rooms 2) the shower rooms and 3) in the equipment room. The staff says, "Were working on it." but no progress has been made resulting in WET bathrooms and an inability to put your clothes on after a shower. To top it off, the re-modeling that they did squeezes all of the common areas: the aerobics room is very cramped; the basketball room is too small; the tennis courts have alienated other teams since theyre not regulation size. What did they make room for: areas where you have to pay extra in order to use. Yet these areas are always 100% empty. The pilates room, the personal trainer areas upstairs, etc... are empty. So thanks for a wet humid gym with less space and air flow. Im OUT.
