Well, Ive been a member of this gym going on 5 years. I have also been a member with the other gym names since 1988 and I have lost a total of 190 lbs. I have also kept it off since 1998. I love Onelife Fitness. The equipment is out of this world. Its always kept running, the people are real nice. Most are willing to help you. I love the movie theatre section in the gym and the equipment you are able to use whilst watching a good movie and time flies before you know it. I cannot say enough about the wonderful classes and the come right along with your monthly fee of $29.00 or $39.00 depending on whether you put down your $149.00 for their fees. Onelife has numerous deals and they dont make a spectacle about what you pay for. I liked that. What I really love are the teachers aka Instructors who know who to teach classes. I love Onelife Fitness and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight. You join you get two sessions free with a trainer (I havent had mine yet because I have medical issues right now). You can also use each of the gyms around the Hampton Roads area with a full gym pass. I really love that. Then you have what are called the "Launches" every quarter. They are done several different ways and for me personally I love the "hard launches" where the rooms are set up and members and visitors are shown the new music, the new body pump moves, the cycle class workouts and so much more. There is also a new launch coming up beginning next week. Get ready everyone, come along, see what wonderful classes and workouts you can do... maybe even join! You will love and never regret it. There is so much more I can say about Onelife Fitness, but I think you should see it for yourself. Youll love it as much as I do. Did I mention the new friends you may meet and get to know? Con in and see for yourself the wonderful world of workouts .... THANK YOU SO MUCH ONELIFE FITNESS just being the very best gym facilities around,!!! You can do the small ones if youd like, but I happen to love the camaraderie and structure of the classes and thats always made me stay and continue to go to the gym. So much so I worked my gym classes around my schedule lol I LOVE ONELIFE FITNESS SO COME ON DOWN AND TAKE A TRIAL WEEKS WORTH OF CLASSES and see what you like to do. I bet youd end up joining because youd love the classes, too! Challenge yourselves. Come to any of the 6 or 7 Onelifes around the Hampton Roads area. Tell them Barbara Viscardi sent you! I dare you!

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Their management reeks. Id been a member since before their grand opening as Golds in 2002. Tried to cancel my membership in 2009 when I found another gym after they went from "Golds" to"Onelife" without any notification other than a flyer in the mail...that I got the DAY it changed. They talked me into a 6-mo suspension, presumably so that if I changed my mind and wanted to come back within 6 months I could still have my old monthly rate. Since no one explained otherwise, written or verbal, I was left to assume that if I took no further action, my membership would fizzle out after the 6 months, and if I decided after that timeframe to rejoin, Id have to pay a down pymt and whatever monthly membership dues a new 2010 member has to pay. Wrong. Dead wrong. I noticed 9 months later that they had been helping themselves to their member fees out of my checking acct for the past 3 months, since the 6 months had expired, even though I hadnt stepped foot in the place for more than 9 months. When I called to explain the mistake, they told me it was "like cable- you pay for it whether you watch it or not". WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. A cable company has no way of knowing whether youre watching your cable or not; however, they confirmed that they could see that I hadnt been there in OVER NINE MONTHS and were still insistent that I signed a contract stating the terms of cancellation. THAT WAS A CONTRACT FROM 8 YEARS AGO WITH GOLDS GYM, not "Onelife Fitness". The terms of a "6-mo supension" should have been clearly explained (they were not), and I should have insisted on something in writing (stupid me; I didnt). Im currently arguing the case with their mid-level management, but if thats unsuccessful, their senior management and WAVY-TV 10 On Your Side can have the court of public opinion decide whos right.

The staff is awful. I can think of two trainers who are friendly and know what theyre talking about. The rest are rude and dont do their jobs. I had to have one of the good trainers during his off time while hes working out go get one of the many trainers sitting at the desk to get up and do their job. Ive heard trainers bash on members and other trainers as if I wasnt sitting right there listening. Trainers also need to present themselves in a certain way while wearing the onelife shirt and theres one Ive seen on multiple occasions have Newport Cigarretts falling out of his pocket. Ive also had trainers come and take my equipment while Im using it for their clients like they have precedence over everyone else who pays to come use the equipment. The equipment is falling apart. I go to other onelife locations and the equipment is always being repaired and top knotch but this location prefers to waste money on the lockerroom which was just fine before. In fact its worse now that its been redone. Stall doors dont even close right. This facility is filthy compared to other one life locations. Examples: mirrors are always covered in streaks. Theres always dust on the equipment and the "crossfit" room has a nice layer of filth on the walls? I have seen dried up protein shake in the water fountain that was there for well over a month so clearly thats not being even wiped down. If it wasnt for the convenience of this location I would be at a different one. Ive personally worked in a few gyms in the past so I know what to look for and Ive been disappointed in this location. Greenbrier and the boulevard are great! Cant speak for Norfolk.

I was a member at one life fitness for a little over a year. Overall, I had a great experience as a member, but in the end found it easier and cheaper to go to the gym at school. Therefore, I decided to cancel my membership at onelife. When I first called them I was instructed to email Megan and she would cancel the membership and was given her email address. I promptly emailed her and waited. After several days of not hearing anything I decided to call back and asked for Megan. After speaking with her she told me she just hadnt had enough time to get to her emails but that she would get back to me. A couple more days passed and I finally received confirmation from her stating that my last bill would be November 20. I thought that I finally had it all taken care of until December when I was charged again. I immediately called the club and was told that I had to talk to the general manager in order to get my money back, which seems absurd. Instead I called Megan, as she is the assistant general manager, and the one in charge of the cancellation, and I was promptly sent to her voicemail. I left her a message stating my concern and asked her to call me back to fix everything. As you may guess my call was never returned. I have belonged to many different gyms in Virginia and South Carolina and have never had so many issues with the cancellation. I could not be more frustrated with this and it has completely ruined my entire view of this company. When I finish at ODU and need a new gym there is not a chance that I would consider Onelife again and I highly recommend the same for you.
