About a week ago I met a man about my age, 73, who recently moved to Whidbey Island and we starting talking cars which led him to ask me for a recommendation for a local mechanic. Without hesitation, I recommended Stu at Clinton Automotive. We have been in Clinton for over 25 years now and after trying a few different shops in the first few years we fortunately found Stu. Im embarrassed that I havent written a review before since the market for everything now seems to review driven. I dont understand the one anonymizes review, there must more to that story. I dont think you could find a more knowledgeable and honest mechanic anywhere. He has all the "modern" diagnostic equipment but more importantly intuition built by decades of experience.

OK so everything takes a little longer on the island, you should be used to this before needing your car repaired here anyways. I am a recent transplant to whidbey and I brought my car here for a check engine light which I needed to clear for emissions. Not only did the mechanic run the OBD check for free (easy, but normally charged for) he let me know that island county doesnt require emissions, and that all I needed to do was update my registered address. He could have charged me $500 for a worthless repair, but was honest and friendly instead. 5 star all the way.

Great. Stu goes above and beyond with every car Ive owned, from a vintage Ford to a later-model Infiniti. Hes custom-made repair parts when they were no longer available, turned things around on a dime when Ive asked, and he makes a point of charging fairly. Hes not charged when he couldnt find a problem, despite spending time on diagnosis. As a result, Ive got two cars with many more miles on them than I thought I was going to get.

A month long nightmare. Clinton Automotive was unable to find the problem with my car after $1200 in questionable repairs and double charging for Ford part. I finally took my car to another auto shop and the mechanic there diagnosed the problem as soon as the hood was open--and fixed a vacuum leak within 15 minutes. I believe Clinton Automotive mechanic to be dishonest and incompetent. Live and learn.

Took my car their stu said it was fixed was not fixed took it back. stu had my car for two weeks charged more money and guess what still leaks. Told me just to add oil when I need it. That is wrong paid for it to be fixed twice. Will never go back and Ill tell my friends not to use Stu.
