I really do love this gym. Its full of top-end equipment in excellent condition, its a clean facility, and the prices are about what youd expect from a regular gym, but it gives you a bit more for your money than average. The pool is nice, but I dont like having to share my swimming space with little kids--they pee in the water; its inevitable! You can actually see the difference in the pool water color from the upstairs track--gross! The only section not shared with the little kid pool water is the lap swimming lanes, and Im not much of a lap swimmer. I just avoid the pool now, which is unfortunate. The track is great, feels nice underfoot, and theres a physical therapy office in the building, too. They were helpful when I was recovering from knee surgery. I would like to see a wider selection of classes, including one for belly dancing, but they do have a pretty decent selection--most of which are included in your membership. A few classes require extra money, and I find them to be extremely overpriced. Ballet for my daughter, for example, was well over what Id expect to pay in a private ballet school, but this was at the YMCA. AND they made me pay for tickets to watch my own childs dance recital. Needless to say, we didnt re-enroll her after that. Otherwise, great gym, good price, awesome staff!

This is hands down the absolute worst YMCA branch I have been to. Let me start off by saying that I have been a member since I was 10 years old and I have been to the Lakewood, Puyallup, Pearl Street downtown Tacoma branches and I have never experienced such rude condescending staff as I have here! I have been going here for two weeks and I have been "talked to" about my workout tank tops twice. Apparently the girl working out in a sports bra and short shorts is OK and family friendly, but if I want to wear a funny tank top that is not offensive, its the end of the world and I have to change my shirt so I dont offend any children that shouldnt be in the free weight section anyway. This gym caters to the rich, snobby housewives of Gig Harbor that have nothing better to do but spend their husbands money. There is no sense of "flow" in the free weight section or the machines. everythings just kind of shoved in there and its hard to move around when theres more than 5 people at any given time. I asked if they had Chalk in the free weight room and they just looked at me like I was retarded. And in the most condescending voice she turned her nose up and said "uhh no". In two weeks, this branch has managed to make me look for another gym even though Ive been a member here for 15 years.

Most of the reviews are spot on, it is clean, mostly friendly, with lots of great workout options. However, the free weights are congested and tight. The zumba is so overloaded you cant get in unless you are willing to practically HUG the person working out next to you. I am sure so many more want to participate but see how cramped the ENTIRE basketball court area is and walk away. And yes, there is a snobby vibe from a few of the women minding the desk which is so unnecessary. A little humble kindness goes a long way when you realize where you are!!! Hello! This is not Golds Gym- it is the "Y"!!! It is for everyone- not just the elite!!! And finding the machine you want can take forever and a few trips up and down the steps waiting to pounce on the one you need! I found myself avoiding it because I was sick of not getting on the equipment I want... but that is ridiculous when you are paying for access to equipment! They need to review what is happening, ask people who are standing or doing laps waiting for the machines to open and get more of what is needed! Be aware of the "busy" times and seriously- avoid them! And then, enjoy! It has great potential!

The family bathroom is not ment for families. The lockers are small and cant fit more than one small bag in it. The hair dryers and swimming suit dryers are ONLY in the regular bathroom. The pool area has NOTHING for young kids, that small slide that they talked about on their website was pushed off to the side and when we asked if we could use it everyone told us no. The mushroom that is in the water is broken. When I went into the Womens locker room to sit in the steam room the white towels that they have for use had brown spots on them, gross! We drove all the way out here from tacoma due to the pictures we saw online and thought it would be a great idea but boy were we WRONG. I think its time to update your website and put the proper information on there and not lie to your customers. I do not recommend this location to families who want to bring their younger kids to the pool or the family bathroom they will not accommodate any families needs.

The kids and I where all excited to go to a new ymca besides our normal one! I do have to say I am super sad that this ymca didnt offer anything toddler related besides a beach entry into the water! (Water slide toddler age was not for use because they mistakenly bought it...but posted photos of the slide being used on website! Swim director said). The family locker room is not ment for family its more for 2 people! Barely any room for wheel chair access! The locker is very narrow and shallow not deep at all! To change your child you have to do it in the open so everyone can see no privacy unless you change them in the sink in a shower room.....the shower water was not warm at all kids where complaining of the cold water! The towels where dirty and being offered to people for sauna and steam room! I am very sad by the way this ymca treats the guest and the whole set up!

Weve been going to this Y for almost 2 years and havent had one bad experience. I rarely have to wait for equipment and they have a wide variety of classes. All of the staff and volunteers have been really helpful and nice. On the occassion that I thought I lost my preschool age daughter, they were swift in putting the gym on lockdown and all available staff helped look for her. (Turned out she was hiding in a locker in the locker room while I was helping my other daughter change.) Even the members seem to have great attitudes there!

What a great place for the entire family! They have great equipment, from Weights, to a walking track, racquet ball courts, nice pool area and so much more, The staff is very helpful, and very polite. They will help guide you to anything you need. Plenty of parking and even when it looks very busy on the outside, it doesnt feel packed inside once you are in the door. If you need a great place to take your kids, or your entire family it is well worth your time to come check them out!

This is a great facility. If you are interested in cardio this place has many machines - everything from stair steppers to treadmills and everything in between. If you are interested in strength training, they have many machines to use. The free weights section is a bit lacking; they have a limited and somewhat cramped free weight area. Overall, it is a great facility with very friendly staff.
