I was there one day with my fiancée. We were having a pleasant time and decided to soak in the hot tub. I was wearing a two piece bathing suit that covered every body part a bathing suit covers. While my fiancée and I were sitting in the hot tub a staff member approached me and told me my bathing suit was inappropriate merely because there was a tie in the back. She then continued to state that I had been warned before and that I will be kicked out next time. I had never been warned before. So I told her that I have never once been told my bathing suit was "inappropriate" mind you my bathing suit was an ordinary two piece suit. I asked the staff member why I was not allowed to wear my bathing suit. She replied "men will think bad thoughts" and they will be "tempted to untie it". I cant believe that they allowed all these men to wear tight speedos with their areas bulging out yet my basic two piece suit caused an uproar. The same exact thing happen to my sister in law who is only FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. they told her that her two piece bathing suit was basically "too sexy". It is disgusting that they even sexualized a 15 year old girl. They should not be looking at a girl that young and having those sort of thoughts. I understand the staff member was doing her job, she was enforcing the rules because she works for them. But clearly their policies are sexist. They want to enforce their own personal beliefs on people which is not right. If you happen to have a young daughter do not bring her here. They literally are telling girls that they are nothing but an object that is to be seen for other peoples pleasure. That is not the message we want to teach our youth. Body parts should not be sexualized, especially a childs!

This place is an abomination. It is crowded beyond belief all the time. They post rules - "embody our values" and are so obsessed with being PC that they dont enforce them, i.e., no slamming of weights, no deadlifts on the hard floor, no cellphones, re-rack weights when finished. 95% of people , obsessed with self, ignore all these signs and generally sit around on machines addicted to their tiny electronic devices that run their lives. It is overrun with "zombies" - people who (probably have never been in a gym) go to the "HAL 2000" computer for a printout that tells them what to do and which machine (by number, not name) to use. They then wander about aimlessly with a glazed look on their faces, searching for machine 25 and if it taken (as it invariably is) will stand there immobile and stare - incapable of improvising by going to another open machine. The weight area is ludicrously undersized and is always packed well beyond capacity with tattooed Neanderthals having the IQ of a grape. You cannot have a structured workout here. The capacity charts they post are a risable joke, as they are all drawn to a different scale, precluding easy comparison. I have walked out many times, due to the crowds and the fact that a gym should improve my health, not degrade it by drastically raising my stress level. I will say that the staff are very nice, and how they can stay upbeat in this miserably overcrowded farce of a place is beyond me. Karl is a real gem. Theyre always having membership specials and just packing them in with NO regard for the workout quality of those who signed up in good faith.

I love this YMCA! Our family joined last June when they opened. It has state of the art equipment along with several of the same type that are popular. The Child Watch has friendly folks with little turn over and they make an effort to get to know you and your child(ren). This is why it is so popular to workout at this Y. In an effort to accommodate all the people they increased the number of hours they operate. As a result you can go at times of the day that have much less activity. They publish charts on the walls that show the number of people that attend at each hour of the day for everyday the past week so you can plan. Whenever you go to a popular gym you are going to have to find ways to workout when it is less crowded, be it Golds or 24 Hour Fitness or the Y. I dont use the classes much since there are so many machines to workout on, but they are immensely popular. And while there was a problem with unattended teens loitering for awhile, that has been taken care of. Teens just hanging out without supervision is always a bad idea so they have made the effort to keep young people where they are supposed to be. I still prefer coming to this Y even with the bumps in the road that they have encountered along the way.

I sent my daughter (3) and son (7 months) to the child care today. I havent left my son with anyone but my husband and my mom. I specifically asked how long they would allow a baby to cry before coming to find the parents. They said 10 minutes max or sooner if the parent requested. I was okay with that answer. I went swimming for an hour, came back and my poor son was red faced and blotchy. I asked how long he had been crying and they told me "oh, he cried the entire time"!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? A full hour of crying and no one came to find me or my husband. I was so mad. So livid for my son. His shirt was all wet from him crying so hard. They had six babies and only one staff. That is definitely out of ratio for Washington state. I will never, ever leave my children there again. There were kids crying in almost every corner. Four staff total. One staff was just walking around aimlessly definitely not helping any of the poor crying kids. I was really disappointed

I am mom of two toddlers and while the gym has an amazing staff and facilities it wasnt right for me for these reasons: 1) Its a struggle to get my children signed in. With temping cookies in glass jars within my kids reach at the cafe and other things, its a struggle to get my kids checked in easily. 2) Giant tempting slide. While the slide is awesome - child watch no longer takes the kids to play on it - so guess who has to do that... me! I do not have time to do this everytime I go to the gym, so just another thing I have to deal with. 3) Overcrowded childcare. 4) I cant run outside while my kids are in child watch. This one is HUGE for me. 5) Overcrowded parking. If you want a gym that is a little smaller and less crowded try the Bremerton Family YMCA. It is a smaller facility and very chill. The child watch offers free classes for 3-6 yr olds between 10-12 and free lunches all summer long. Plus - you CAN run outside and train effectively for hilly races!

Dont come here to lap swim expecting to find an open lane unless you come at really odd times. As many have said, too crowded. This would be much improved if the management asked persons just lounging and talking idly in the lap lanes for long periods of time to simply move to the much larger main pool & leave room for those wanting to concentrate on lap swim. (the people themselves, including children, are clueless or selfish). However, the management allows this to continue on and on. Despite complaining about this several times, and even quitting and telling them why, nothing has changed. The Kitsap Athletic Center in East Bremerton also has lap swim and you can reserve a lane which is a big help for those of us who actually work for a living and need to abide by some sort of schedule. Better for working folks and the cost for swim access is close to the YMCA cost. That is where i swim now because they seriously support those who need/want to lap swim.
