The Washington Electric team just left the house, after installing my new standby generator. The real test will be at the next power outage, but at the moment I am a happy customer. I got a couple of quotes on the installation of a generator and what I really appreciated was the thoroughness and completeness of the estimation and quoting process that I got from Wash Elec. A different contractor just quoted the price of placing a generator on a slab near my house, leaving the upgrading of my gas line and other (potentially expensive) connection details out of the picture. The quote I got from Washington Electric was truly an all-in quote, including expenses from PSE associated with upgrading my gas meter to provide the needed additional capacity. They also provided all of the information that I needed to work with PSE to get my gas line assessed and my meter capacity upgraded (including what number to call and what to say when I got connected). The generator was installed neatly, with good cleanup afterwards. ADDED COMMENTS: Less than 48 hours after the generator was installed there was a major windstorm, causing hundreds of power outages. We were without power for about 18 hours. The generator came on automatically, just like it was supposed to, and we sailed right through. I am very happy. A very large tree limb, about the size of a Christmas tree, came down in our yard and missed the generator by about ten feet. That could have been funny: Get a generator installed, lose power due to wind and trees falling, have generator power come on automatically, then lose generator power due to wind and trees falling.

My generator would not start well, and I dropped a screw into the case, so I contacted Washington Electric. Instead of coming ready to disassemble the generator and fix the issues, as I expected, the technician arrived, looked around, said "yep we need to remove the screws", charged me $169.95 + tax. It would save a lot of time and money, if he did that on the spot, but he was not ready to do that, so I said ok. Next visit, the technician supposedly knows what to expect. He comes, does a little disassembly, removes one screw, fails to remove the other. Instead of doing the job on the spot, tells me he does not have all the necessary things and time to do that, and leaves. And charges me $334.95 tax. How was it my fault that he did not have the time and the tools, hard to say. Now I am supposed to call again, have another visit, pay extra for the third trip. So I am down $540, and not much closer to the solution. What is more, I am not even sure now, that next time technician will have enough time and equipment to finish the job on the spot, and may not need a few more trips, charging me $169 for the first hours of course The good news is that after the technician left I was able to remove the second screw. So only thing left now is to see why it does not start easily, and assemble it. So I asked them to wave the extra fee for the next visit, and they would not do it. Called another company, they came with enough time and tools to do the job, fixed it and left.

I am happy to write a review for Washington Electric for their recent generator installation at my residence. I was prepared to buy a much bigger generator and was convinced by the salesman that I didnt need one that large after looking at his calculations. Installation is absolutely perfect. I am a very detail type person and I cant find anything they did that wasnt of the highest caliber. They take no shortcuts, all the proper permits, inspections, gas piping run perfectly level and painted after install. All electrical conduit routes well thought out and installed level . Complete operation testing afterwards, familiarization with me and follow up by the home office for future service work . Just completed the first year of being installed, worked perfectly on several occasions. Was sent a text and email everytime it turned on for weekly maintenance run, turned off or a power outage. A good friend just had them complete a much larger installation of a 20+ KW generator with several additional features. He is absolutely amazed at their attention to detail and speed at which they complete the job. Purchased through Wa. Elec. simply from my recommendation. They probably do more installations of Generac generators then all the other dealers / installers combined. When deciding on a generator, talking to them is an absolute must. Terry

Let me start by saying the work done was top notch. Josh is a professional. He showed up on time, did skillful work to address my electrical needs (dedicated circuit, dimmer switches, and adding a new light on a porch), and did well to clean up afterwards to remove all the dust and other debris left behind from the work. However I must say I left the experience with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth when it come to cost and setting the right expectations. I was quoted a certain price the morning before work began, but when the bill came it was slightly higher. And couple that with a lack of clarity/misleading advertising on the website what services coupons could be applied to, I was denied a discount I thought I was entitled to based on where the coupon was placed on the website (in the dedicated circuit section). These misunderstandings could have been avoided by providing me a written estimate before the work began instead of leaving it to a verbal agreement where he said/she said comes into play and not placing vague coupons next to certain services of the site. Eric (the owner) and Josh (my technician) met me part of the way to address my concerns about the price misunderstandings, but because they didnt make 100% right, I walk away only partially satisfied customer.

If you want a quality electrical job done at a reasonable cost by technicians who know what theyre doing -- hire Washington Electric! I began using them because theyre one of the few electricians in our area who actually knows what to do with my Generac whole-house natural gas generator AND theyre recognized by Generac as PowerPro Elite service providers. So I started there but then Ive also begun using them for other electrical projects around my house through Angies List Big Deals and "just because"... Kurt is GREAT! Hes the individual weve most worked with but others have also been here (Tyler, for instance) and theyre without exception professional, willing to answer any question, explain anything theyre doing -- and they do it cheerfully. They dont waste time, they take care with my home and they clean up after themselves both indoors and outdoors. Theyve replaced transfer switch parts, installed new can lights, a new outdoor GFCI outlet on the new deck were having built, moved our post light, swapped out switches -- all for less than others have quoted and theyve done it in a quality way. I highly recommend you check out Washington Electric -- if you have a generator, dont forget to ask them about yearly maintenance... its important!!

SELECTION Having had mixed results with contractors, we were very careful in selecting a generator dealer. We found 15 local dealers from the Kohler website which we evaluated for years in business, number of employees, website quality, Yelp reviews, Better Business ratings, and Washington State information. This narrowed the list down to three which we asked to visit our site and provide an estimate. Of these one was rejected since they only did the electrical work leaving us find others to do the propane plumbing, plus they never provided a quote. The other two gave a similar favorable impression. Where Washington Electric stood out was the quote was provided during the first visit by Eric (the owner) and the price was very reasonable. INSTALLATION Eric and Kurt arrived promptly and had most of the work done the first day. They finished up the second day and easily passed the inspections. They had everything working before they left. The installation quality was very impressive. PROBLEM RESOLUTION Three months later, a problem occurred where the generator wouldnt start. Eric and Kurt determined that the generator controller was the cause. A replacement was ordered from Kohler and installed solving the problem.
