I have been part of the Stage One Dance Center studio since January of 2000 when my then 2 1/2 years old daughter showed interests in dancing. The studio owner Miss Julie was such a very charming lady and I noticed how the young kids just adored her. Back then, I was worried about my daughters ability to participate in a class at tender age. But Miss Julie was very adept in handling her young students, understanding their personalities but at the same time inculcating rigors on the technical side of dance instructions and trainings. My daughter and later her older sister, enjoyed the ballet, tap and jazz classes that the studio offered. Ive watched the studio grew from a 1-room studio with most classes handled by Miss Julie, to now with 3 classrooms and with about 6 to 8 brilliant and caring dance instructors providing excellent dance trainings along with Miss Julie but with her at the helm as the hands-on studio owner and artistic director. If you are serious in developing your love for dancing, the studio provides opportunities to participate in several dance competitions in the Bay Area through Miss Julies initiative of establishing dance teams in several levels of proficiencies. In addition, the studio provided opportunities in dancing with the professionals, such as when my daughter along with most of the members of Miss Julies dance teams were selected to perform as assembly dancers in one performance of the Oakland Ballets Christmas season performance of the Nutcracker. Or - another time, when my daughter along with half of the members of Miss Julies dance teams danced during the half-time show of a Warriors game in Oakland. The experiences were priceless. My friends who I extended the invitation to, thought that was sooo cool. As someone who desires to be a good, contributing member of the community, I appreciate Stage Ones participation in Benicias community activities such as the Torchlight Parade, 4th of July performances, Arts in the Park - in some earlier years, and Holidays at First Street. Miss Julie also exposes her dancers - whoever is interested - in the dance world outside of her studio. She coordinated with someone with the Smuin Ballet to allow Stage One dance team members to watch a show in San Francisco one year and meet the dancers and the director in the backstage. She also encourages her dancers and their families (of which I am most proud to be part of) to support local events such as the Benicia High Schools dance and performing arts events. Eleven-and-a-half years later, my daughter is still enjoying her dance classes and instructions from the studio. I have continually and consistently felt very grateful that Benicia is blessed with such an exceptional dance studio and I dont have to drive far to support my daughters love for dancing. As a dance-parent at Stage One for almost 12 years now, I have talked to parents with kids coming to Stage One who reside in American Canyon, Vallejo and even across the bridge. And it is pleasantly interesting to me that these families come to Benicia to have their kids dance at the Stage One Dance center studio. I love living in this wonderful City of Benicia and I am glad we have a great, dance studio -Stage One Dance Center.

My daughter started dancing at Stage One when she was 3 and she is now almost 15 and still dancing with the studio. Stage One has been a wonderful place for her to develop her dance skills and technique over the years. She has been very involved with the studio and even participated for 8 years on the competition teams. Stage One is not just a dance studio for my daughter, but a second home filled with incredible people that she calls her second family. I have been so pleased over the years with the artistic director, Miss Julie, who was my daughters first teacher. Miss Julie has always been helpful and accommodating by rearranging my daughters dance schedule in order for her to continue on the dance team when she had personal difficulties. Stage One has also instilled something in my daughter that not all young girls have - confidence. My daughter has a confidence within her that doesnt just translate to the stage and performance, but also to other aspects of her life as well, such as her education. My daughter has had the ability to get in front a class full of her peers and give presentations with such a confidence that her teachers are blown away that someone so young could have such confidence in themselves. I attribute it to Stage One. The teachers there have helped my daughter develop a sense of self that makes me proud! I highly recommend Stage One to anyone looking for a new studio. The quality of dance education and the experience the student receives is priceless. From the teachers, to the students, to the parents, Stage One is a place that I am proud to have my daughter be a part of.

My daughter started dancing with Stage One four years ago when she was five years old. Her teachers did an excellent job introducing her to dance and teaching her the fundamentals. They even took the time to get to know her as a dancer and focus on working with her in the areas they saw she could excel. We were both a bit reluctant when she was invited to join the competition team as she was an extremely shy and timid child. After receiving her second invitation she decided to join Mini Company and compete. She has been dancing competitively now for the past two years. The experience has been both challenging and rewarding. I know that her skills as a dancer and as a performer have grown exponentially as a result of being on the team. Thanks to the persistence of her instructors and the excellent training she is receiving she is blossoming into a beautiful dancer. More importantly for me, the support and encouragement she receives from her instructors and the senior dancers has helped her to overcome the shyness that has held her back in many areas. She is no longer my little Velcro anymore, needing me to be nearby at all times. This coming year, little sister will take her first dance class. An already outgoing personality, I know that the instruction, support, and friendship she will receive from Stage One will help to enhance her love of people and develop her love of dance.
